Hi Tim, Pretty amazing what the Ventrac can do. I think what Corey needs for the first time is a track skid loader with a heavy duty bush hog for the rough wooded areas. I would have been a bit nervous, as it seemed like you were running into a lot of hidden surprises with visibility being so poor with all the brush covering up the short stumps. But watching Vinny chewing up the lighter stuff, made it seem like a hot knife through butter. On the steep slopes, the wet grass making it slippery seemed like the only real challenge. As always your videos are excellent!

I'm at least 140 mi from you. We always called those "wild roses" I have tons of them on my property. I had the same decision, buy a tractor with a loader or a vinny. Tractor is paid off in 4 more years and Im looking at a vinny again. My question is how does it lube the motor when your on a 30 degree slope? I'm a quadriplegic (still have some use but Im week) and a tractor has been a God sent.

Hi there...,good question...I suppose that the engine has a second oil pan-in the main pan-whose snorkel oscillates freely .From there the pump keeps the oil in motion...something like this anyway...there is more than one solution. I bought a cub cadet 3 years ago because of its oil pump and filter. Because of the slope of my front yard my tractor smokes already. So apparently it's running dry for a big chunk of my front yard. My back hill is a 30 degree slope easy and goes well past that. (good thing the hill is only 18ft high or so) Only way to mow that would be that nice extending sickle bar thing. Only way to mow it is by weed wacker and I'm in a wheelchair. The weeds on it are well over 8 ft tall this year.

Hi Tim & crew... Have enjoyed your videos and have picked up a lot of tips from the different projects you have worked on ... I own a larger tractor, a New Holland Boomer 45, with a cab. It has a tendency to get a bit colder up here in the Adirondacks, while working on the snow projects... For the smaller projects like above a use a DR Walk Behind Bush Hog, due to the unknown terrain and tight spaces.... As for paying for KZbin, that is not going to happen... That was the reason I dropped cable and just went with wifi... God Bless..Chief {NYS/ADK}

Great video Tim Showing the versatility of the ventrac I am surprised how well it seems to handle hills and banks and the Tough cut mower seems to handle the brush really well when ever we clear a wooded area like what Cory had there we always cut the privet and other larger type brush down to or as close as we can get to the ground that way when people are walking and working in these areas they are not tripping over what's left because some of these areas we will keep some what maintained like take our weed eaters and cut the area once a month or 3 to 4 times during the growing season. As far as your comment about the Kawasaki in the comments of the last video I like Kawasaki engines as well that is the engine that is on most of our equipment. Have a blessed day. If I was expecting at the time to have a machine or anyone other than myself in the woods I would have cut them flush but I have learned my lesson. This area will be an orchard so eventually all of these trees will go except the pecans and walnuts.

Great video. Tim, have you figured out the weight transfer yet? From what the Ventrac shows that with the duals, the weight transfer set correctly, and as long as the ground is not too wet, you shouldn't slide so much under 30 degrees.

I do not think I had enough weight transfer set. I had it on ‘2’. Ventrac rep recommended ‘4’, but I didn’t know that until I was finished with all of this mowing.

With him being on a tight budget I would recommend waiting on the Ventrac for now and getting a RK Tractor RK24H for $10,500, a RK backhoe attachment for $5,000 and any other attachment he needs. Hire someone.... ;-) to take care of the big hill in the back 3 time a year. The front hill can be done with a high powered trimmer.

We never saw even half of his property in this video. Additionally, we didn't do a deep dive on the things he wants to accomplish. That is not our focus. Advice based on the small amount of video shown is likely not 'complete'.

I am leaning more towards a compact tractor to meet my needs for the price and the attachments I would like. That being said I'll have to be very careful mowing (after grass is planted) the area shown in the video with a tractor. All the area shown in the video will be part of our orchard so I would only need to mow between the rows and use the tractor as a method of hauling fruit up the hill.

I've got one of these - you might double check your tire pressures - it's easy to over-inflate them which will cut down on your traction. Great videos!

Tim I work at the county landfill where we have incredible steep hills that we mow two times a year. We have a zero tern (bobcat brand) and a specialty slope mower that is designed to mow hills of 30° or greater by using it motorcycle like chassis with a flexible deck. The main part of the machine is like a motorcycle as it only has two wheels front and back and uses a Gyro to determine how the machine should lean this allows the machine to lean from one side to the other depending upon what direction or what movement you may make while mowing the only drawback to this machine is the mowing deck is not connected to the machine directly i.e. using PTO shafts or belts it is operated that the deck is operated by hydraulic pumps and lines that run down to hydraulic motors that are rather small for our purposes where we only know twice a year but in a situation like his in orchard or around a farm where he has severe slopes one of the sophomores would be fine if you remove maybe once or twice a month they would do a great job it's very easy on fuel you can run ours for of today's on 16 gallons of gas that's running eight hours a day hope this is helpful enjoy the video keep making more Jake U

My two cents worth about Multi-Flora-Roses. It is an invasive species. You are correct many state's conservation depts recommend them at one time. Now you can find states that have outlawed the planting of them. You can't kill them by mowing, or burning, and nearly impossible to dig them out. I found what works best is Cimarron Plus.

Kinda like many states planting the non-native brush "Scotch Broom" it took over the state of Washington and is nearly impossible to kill. You have to cut it before it buds then spray the root area with a total herbicide. They thought it would be a valuable vegetation for erosion control, instead it made for terrible allergies and invasive. It is funny though, Home Depot sells it here in Texas in 1 and 5 gallon containers and they charge 20-50 dollars for it. Makes me shake my head.

It's me again Tim . Does the Ventrex machine have any other attachments besides mowing attachments say seeders maybe groundbreaking equipment like a tiller or a plow or Hayrake anything that someone might want to use on a small farm . Because we have @ the southern landfill in the Kent County that I work in a very similar machine to the Ventrex but I can't remember his name but it actually comes with the smaller not like the big figure of compact tractors but a smaller bucketloader attachment that you can put on it and the seat articulates when you going to steep slopes I should remember the name of the machine so you could check it out they've had pretty good luck with it it also has the new mowing deck like he was showing with the Ventrex in this video and it has the lead of reach out Long reach out mowing deck but if I'm remembering correctly that one is the best spinning blade off of a hydraulic motor rather than a sicklebar design so if you're curious about it you may want to poke around and take a look it had pretty good luck with that machine down there . Tim - I didn't see anything in the top-right corner to access a poll. I guess channel memberships are the next big thing. First it was Patreon and now channel memberships. It's funny you say the price is fixed because another channel I watch just implemented memberships but theirs is $4.99. I really enjoy watching your videos and find the content very informative and please don't take offense to this but there is no way I am paying a monthly fee to watch a KZbin video. I mean, $6/mo here, $5/mo there and pretty soon I have something equivalent to a monthly cable bill just to watch KZbin. I've said the same thing about satellite radio. I will NEVER pay for radio. Same with KZbin... there are literally thousands of good informative channels out there, many of which I haven't even discovered yet as there are only so many hours in the day. If the list I currently watch move to memberships I will simply move on and create a new watch list. If and when most of KZbin goes the pay route it will be time to switch over and watch content on the sites that will replace KZbin.

It seems that the You Tube Business model is to get us to watch thinking this is great free video entertainment, but for the creators of videos, they try to incent them, and motivate them to create more viewers (and you tube promotes their videos more as view numbers increase ) then the bigger reward comes with us viewers paying through subscription fees !!! On my front deck zero turn I transferred all the weight possible to the drive wheels and added fluid to the tires. It could hold a slope very well. I haven't measured it

Hi Tim it's me again, I had a thought about Corey and his hills and brush problems he should look into getting sheep or goats as both animals will be able to eat both on the hills and clean some of the brush up and at the same time he would be able to sell either meat wool or milk at his farm market depending upon how much land he has he may not have to feed the goats except for in the winter time when the grass is died off and leaves are gone from the trees we generally only go through about 100 hundred and 50 bales per winter with our 12 sheep and we only have about an acre and a half of the land that we keep them on we have it fenced off so that we can recruit rotationally raise them and if he Halter trains the sheep Young needs to buy them very young to do this but if he hawker trains the sheep to where he can take them out in his orchard where they can't get to this fruit trees will keep the orchard mowed and fertilized as long as he's got a small barn to put them in during winter months or even small shelters like you know if your sheep aren't that big you can use dog houses we use several dog houses and then we have a barn that we made out of scrap wood that we got from the dump and then rather spending so much money on Aventrad machine as a specialty mower and having to go and buy a compact tractor to do the other Auldfarm jobs that have to be done on a regular basis you can just buy the sheep the goats you need to use cows to and then you not just buying something that's going to cost you the money or buying it and then have to work on it when it breaks down you're buying something that will produce for you a product to sell even if it's just your breeding and selling the babies at market is just something to consider we have quite a bit of luck on the sheet so you can tell him if he has any questions to pop on over to my channel and I'll be happy to answer and tell him I said good luck with his new venture I hope he does very well with it Yours truly Jake .

Multiflora rose,YUK! I have to fight them here too. They do flower for a couple of weeks in the spring and smell very nice but they will grab you and rip you up real good.

Hay Tim, I've been down the road Cory has taken and have learned a thing or two. The most important thing I could tell him is to either cut the stumps down to a level he can mow over, or leave them 3 foot or so tall. If you can't see them, you can't avoid them. You can take them down with a small saw by carefully plunge cutting in at a downward angle and doing that from several points around the stump. I don't know anyone who has not got a saw stuck. It is nice to have two saws, but if you don't, keep an extra bar and chain. Just remove and leave the stuck bar and chain and put the spare on and cut the stuck one out. I've owned several saw brands in over 42 years of cutting and there is nothing like a Stihl. I swear by their full chisel chain and sharpen my chains on the saw with a Dremel. It saves time and money. Leave the burr. I've been trying to tame my 10 acres since 1976 without a tractor. I once was young, but now I think its tractor time for old Gene. Keep up the good work. I'm about 70 miles up 69 from you. I got plenty of stumps to grind if you want to come over and play, I would have my better half feed you and send you home with some good old brown eggs. Mr. Lewis, I appreciate your experience and wisdom. I would have cut them flush if I knew anyone or a machine other than myself would be going into the woods at the time I felled the trees. I need to cut them off anyway so I can finish clearing and plant more fruit trees in that area. I agree a second chainsaw or even a second bar for my Echo cs 400 would be nice. I'm considering a larger saw for milling as well. Do you have any more advice for a young land owner such as myself?

If you are not heating with wood, I recommend it. It makes good use of the resource that most people just pile up and torch and it justifies the cost of new equipment. I wish I could share all the ways I have injured myself and destroyed my equipment cutting wood. Learn all you can about proper tree felling. I lost a saw due to a barber pole split and learned what that was all at the same time. Even a tree that is down can be dangerous. If it is on only a slight grade and you cut off the wrong limb, it can roll. I had a down tree roll over and swat me like a fly. Watch for widow makers. I have spent some good money on a bigshot sling shot. I can now put a rope high in a tree and pull it with my truck. Some of the dead ones come over without sawing. If I suspect a widow maker in a tree, I pull on it before I walk under it. I wish I had planted more fruit trees earlier in my life. You will learn as you go along. KZbin is a wonderful resource I wish I had when I started. I hope some of this helps you. God bless and keep you and yours.

This is a awesome machine especially with all the attachments that can be out on it, my only complaint is that wining of the hydro drive, granted the camera might might pick that up more then in person, I'm not sure but that sound at least in the video would drive me crazy until I got use to it and zoned it out, nice vid, I like seeing the tractors doing what they're supposed to, granted like this vid, there's stumps and sliding down hills so waiting to see what it might do or not is something I feel you can watch without that checking out that you mentioned, and just an opinion it would go from job to job and what's being done, this vid had some is he going to make it up and through and there's other things that don't have that, just some insight if interested, thanks for the vid, God bless

Of course we get the ‘pucker factor’. However, this is different. I’m firmly convinced that this machine will NOT turn over. It slides down the hill first. Check out our recent video where we got up to 38 degrees several times. You’ll see me sliding all over!

Awesome video man I just discovered your channel cause I’ve started to see more Ventrac mowers around. Where exactly in Indiana was that cause we have 100 acres around Aurora and Lawrenceburg Indiana but we are buying the property next to it and it’s one big hill. I’d like to convince my dad into buying a Ventrac just because that 72 inch deck seems nice. Right now our setup is using the dr field and brush mower it’s nice but they don’t really make that big of decks. Anyway awesome video again I love watching them on my free time. 👍

That Vinny is quite a machine! I can see so many uses for him. In Corey's case, He may need both a Vinny and a Johnny. Since there are way more used tractors out there, I think economically, a new Ventrac and a used tractor are the choice. Or he could have Tim come by every couple weeks. He only has to lay in a good supply of cheeseburgers. But can he offer Christi?

Tim, Love the channel and how you guys create the videos. I agree with many of your viewers that this pay to watch idea that you tube has is not a good thing. Maybe exclusives on a patreon account from you or maybe on your personal website would be a better way to go.
