Tracy Lawrence was at the height of his career and then he beat up his cheerleader wife, like really beat her up bad. It killed his career. It's unfortunate because he was one of my favorite artist. If I remember correctly he actually beat up two women. So he really has a rage issue.

Paint Me A Birmingham is my favorite and very deep and symbolic in meaning. Think you’ll love it Don! Tracey started young and in the 1990’s when my band was playing top40 country as well as mixing it with old standards. He’s not washed up by any means but just not marketable by current Nashville standards. He’s one I would say that is involved in that whole Murder on Music Row thing

He was a terrific song writer who managed to capture so many of the joys and heartaches of love that very few C&W singers are able to do. But he probably took things to an extreme and regretted things he had done, so now leads a quieter life.

You can’t go wrong with any of Tracy’s singles from the start of his career through 2000 or so. Here’s a list: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tracy_Lawrence_discography#Singles I stopped listening to Popville country around 2000 or so, and I started listening to Texas Country (Y’allternative), so I can’t speak about Tracy’s material much after that. My brother and I used to wear out Tracy’s albums in the 90s. He had the kind of albums where you could listen to the whole thing and not just the singles.

Unfortunately Tracy's no Texas fan...his heart is with the Razorbacks but after many years of living in Nashville, he's become a Vols fan as well. Good song...I believe this one is from his first album which was very neotraditional country. He had some squabbles with his producers throughout the 90's because they were pushing him hard to do the sappy ballad's that were dominating the country airwaves at the time. So yeah, he paid the rent every so often with pop country songs but in his heart of hearts, he's always been a h*nky tonkin neotraditionalist. For whatever reason the vocal inflections he used in this song had me hearing Georgia Satellite's "Keep your Hands to Yourself"? :-)

@David Emswiler I can understand his allegiance to the Hogs since he's from there, and I suppose could possibly understand the Vols, but not really. He's in Nashville, so go with Vandy!! And now I've got "Keep Your Hands To Yourself" on repeat in my brain, so thank you for that--ha!! I reacted to it a year ago and it was blocked, and I was bummed. It's a fun tune and a really fun video.

Hey, better late than never! Glad you discovered Tracy. This song is a perfect introduction to him, as it was my introduction to him, as well. This was his debut single in late 1991. I was only six when it came out, and I remember it being one of my biggest favorites at the time. My dad then bought me the cassette of his debut album at Montgomery Wards. Still have it to this day! :) Sadly, radio quit playing Tracy as much when mainstream country went more pop in the 2000's, just like most other 90's neo-traditionalists. He still tours a lot, though, and is still recording.

Hell yeah Don!!! Tracy is one of my top 5 country artists and he’s still going strong. He came out and took everyone by surprise and then was shot and almost killed trying to defend a female friend. He survived and continued to put out great music even though record execs tried to push Bro Country. I could list 20+ of his songs which I’d love for you to react to. My absolute favorites of his are I See It Now, Till I Was a Daddy Too, Sticks and Stones, Paint Me a Birmingham, and If the World Had a Front Porch. I saw him in concert last year at Billy Bob’s in Fort Worth which was amazing as I’d always wanted to see him in concert but growing up in Alaska not many acts would make it up there. Now that I live in Texas I am making up for lost time. Tracy is the real deal and I can’t wait for you to react to more of his thoroughly enjoyable catalog.

This was Tracy's debut single which went to #1 way back in 1991. Tracy went on to have another half dozen #1 songs with his last coming in 2006. Tracy is still active in the industry and hosts a weekly syndicated show. The vocal event that he won the award for was almost certainly for "Find Out Who Your Friends Are" as a version of that featured Tim McGraw and Kenny Chesney. While it was not about the mortgage crisis, it actually isn't a bad fit for it. I am shocked that you never heard of Tracy but I won't go into recommending Tracy's other songs as I see many others have beat me to it. i will say if he is one you've never heard of, there may be many more 90s artists that we need to educate you on. Maybe each week you react to the #1 song on the billboard charts for this week 25 or 30 years ago, at least if it's a song you don't know. Yes there were some "bad" songs back then too but the vast majority of them were really good country songs.

I always thought this was one of the best country songs from the 90s. My favorite Tracy Lawrence song. I give the studio version a 10.

I am fairly new so I am just catching up on some of your videos. I saw that you reacted to a Kiefer Sutherland song. I think you should check out another actor, Jeff Bridges. He has some nice videos from the AOL Sessions of such songs as "Maybe I Missed The Point", "Fallin' And Flyin'", and "The Quest."

Love this one but my favorite TL song is Alibis. I really liked him. I'm pretty sure he still tours.

It would also be cool if u could review a Tyler Childers song called Can I take my hounds to heaven. Its not even produced yet, but it needs to be. Great song for the country/hunting living life!

Hes been collaborating with some new artists on his old songs Luke Combs/Bryan lately. It seems he is trying to make a comeback much like Brooks and Dunn with their Reboot album.
