Traditional Mangalorean Style Silver Anchovies | Motiyali | Erlyo fish Curry with Raw Mango - Seafood
Being a Mangalorean and hailing from Konkan coastal belt my food inclinations are very obvious. Like millions of folks belonging to the coastal regions, fish is an integral part of my food habit.
It requires a lot of patience to clean this fish. Once done it is worth the effort. Yes, it's true! Erlyo/ Motiyali/ Silver Anchovies rightly teaches us that we can't have everything in life..!! Everything comes with a price . No pain, no gain.
If you notice the basic masala of any fish curry is the same, it's just what is added into the curry which makes all the difference. Like silverfish /motiyali/ mandalie has the same masala, but still, there is a lot of difference in taste.
This small white fish is known to be rich in omega-3 fatty acids which are good for our heart and brain. With this fish we always like to add raw mangoes, as it enhances the taste of the curry. Best served with boiled rice and a dry sabji on the side.

List Of Ingredients
1 cup silver fish
1 cup coconut
4 garlic cloves
1/2 onions
7-8 red chilies used mix of begdi and Kashmiri
1 tbsp coriander seeds
1 tsp cumin seeds
7-8 peppercorns
Small ball of tamarind
1 tsp turmeric powder
3-4 pieces of raw mango optional
1 onion sliced for tadka
Oil as required
Salt as required
