Because he understands why rednecks and southern people in general gravitate to Trump. He gets it. When Trump was working with Jesse Ventura, his policies were quite liberal, but in that time, Trump realized that Republicans were a lot easier to manipulate. Democrats weren't as impressed with his narcissistic rich guy act and he knew that Republicans, as long as he dragged religion into it and gave evangelicals everything they wanted, they'd give him power. Donald Trump is a moron on most things, but one thing he is good at, like most wannabe dictators, is reading people and deciding which audience is easiest to manipulate. He kind of spilled the beans when he said "I love the non-college educated." Of course he does. That isn't to say that there aren't intelligent people who didn't go to college. George Carlin was a good example. But Carlin, unlike a lot of non-college educated people, decided to educate himself. Most non-college educated people have an aversion to learning and are easy to manipulate because they won't fact check.

NAFTA came and the denim factory where my dad and half the town worked downsized and it went from getting by to real poverty for a lot of people. I joined the Army at 18 as a ticket out of town and off to college. And I HATE Hillbilly Elegy. I always did, because I read it, and it's what I heard from the fancy people in town my whole life who took advantage of everybody else: it's your fault you don't have anything. We talk about the same stuff he does, and sometimes disagree, but we don't hate each other. Some of my right wing friends laugh at his jokes about them, not because they are stupid, but because they truly think his jokes about them are genuinely funny. Trae's jokes about liberals and Democrats are also funny. What America really needs more than anything else is a sense of humor. We need to laugh at ourselves. A sense of humor got me through cancer treatment. It can get us through this constant bickering. Just my humble opinion.

Glad you came through it Glenn. Also glad you reminded me about the importance of seeing humor even if it's in your circumstances. Father was going through cancer, used to be 6 ft 1 and 260 weight. Down to about 140 lb and I started bringing him tapes I made of Caroline's comedy hour and comedy specials and you usually taped them while watching them but on this particular occasion I was busy and so taped it and took it anyway. Don't remember the comedian but he was talking about having cancer and I thought I was going to die making dad watch this and then I looked over and he was laughing and crying and doubling over and he got his appetite back. He was given three to six months and he came through with nine good years and too bad nights. Here's hoping your days are full of fun and your nights are peaceful.

As a corporate professional, I know that is not true and that it is the party-line lie for maintaining corporate welfare. Any billionaire any day could dissolve child hunger in our country literally overnight (and yes that includes Oprah). That's how little we need for things to be okay. Corporate CEOs who have any semblance of financial savvy are all billionaires, nevermind what their board and other C-suiters get paid. Anyone who has gone to a corporate employees town hall reporting financials since COVID hit knows that C-suite reports out loud that company policy is to raise prices as high as the market will bear, increasing most prices for regular stuff 30%-200% since that time, just because they can. And before COVID, the lie about "hamburgers costing more" wasn't true either. It's basic math. Next time you hear that lie, there's some data for you

As someone born (and voluntarily removed from) southeastern Ohio, I feel compelled to correct the mistake: Vance grew up in southWESTERN Ohio, very close to the large urban complex of Cincinnati. Southeastern Ohio has a claim to Appalachia: its hilly terrain is the foothills of the Appalachians. Southwestern Ohio is either farms or cities. We had enough trouble with poverty and lack of employment without being identified as the home of J.D. Vance.

I am Canadian who used to install steel process equipment in the states. I was in Terrell Texas where the line operator took his Jeep into the dealership and while sat in the waiting room the service manager came out and asked him to 'disarm' his vehicle. He had five handguns hidden in various places. His motto was "Mess with me and you're a dead man". In Columbus Ohio the electrician told me about a fishing trip to Canada and while unloading his trunk found a handgun he'd 'forgotten' was there.

Good reason for inspections of vehicles entering Canada.. unbelievable how casually they treat gun ownership.

@@OntCan There's a show on about the border control and it's amazing the number of Americans who come through who don't know that we do not like handguns.

Hey look it's Al Franken. I enjoy him, Al Franken. He used to be on SNL, Al Franken. He used to do news segments, Al Franken. His name would be on the monitor when he would say, Al Franken. Keep it up you, Al Franken. You are a gift to America, Al.

I can relate to this. My family believes everything Trump says and all the right wing nonsense. I believe this will/has destroyed our families relationship with one another. My son is more left but not liberal. I truly feel it would be best if my son and I distance ourselves totally from family. There is no talking to them. My son introduced me to your channel and I have to say it’s been enlightening. Thank You.

ln view of recent years, the injustice done to Senator Franklin seems more tragic and regrettable with time.

What? How many guns??? I’ve only got 9 ‘stashed’. Feeling vulnerable!!! Actually leave front door unlocked 80% of the time, which is likely not normal. Have a “wouldn’t happen here, but what-if?” attitude. In fear is how the right-wing want you to live, correct?
@meganm10742 ай бұрын
Here in Australia having 9 guns would make everyone feel very uncomfortable & suspicious of you! No one needs that many, it shows an attraction to guns. The US gun culture seems out of control. Who benefits? The gun companies. Who pays the cost? Your whole society.

Mark Cuban, fellow techbro billionaire, went on the Daily Show and described the Silicon techbro culture like they were James Bond villains. Sitting in ivory towers with their pet people like Vance, wanting to have more control over everyone else than they already do. They think money gives them the right, like medieval people thought of divine right.

Middletown, Ohio isn't a rural town. The population is 50,000+ and not far from Cincy or Dayton. Miami University has a regional campus there.
