It was just a dumb trade. I’m a spurs fan and knew it was a fleece as soon as I heard the knews Like what did they think was gonna happen with two dudes that need the ball in their hands to be effective? I’m not saying either is bad players, but they both kinda remind me of Russ in that the play style just isn’t conducive to championship type winning. You have to build the team a very specific way Pretty sure the gm is like owners son or something so the dumb move can kinda be explained by that. Just a stupid FO move

@amesevenbarberstudio if you Actually watch Hawks games and look at stats you know that Bullshit........ Trae is overtly the better PG than Dejounte, but Dejounte is also his best at PG. And neither wanted to play off ball but Dejunte at 6'4 was supposed to be the SG, and wasn't good at it....... Because Trae is the bigger star people love to criticize Trae but actually it's stupid because why would you want the better playmaker off the ball? at the same Dejunte the SG wasn't good at it but escaping criticism. Trae actually saying we had no shooting guard, Dejunte the shooting guard or off guard didn't play off.

@@back2back379 I can see why you say that. All 3 of those players are a) better than Trae Young and b) play in better situations, tho. IMO, being more of an off-ball player would definitely help Trae AND his team become more successful, but he gotta be willing to do it 🤷🏿‍♂️
@back2back379

@@LogicOverEverything I agree, not only would it add a different dimension to his own game, but it would add a different dimension to his team's game as well. If Dejounte and Trae had great off-ball games like Steph and Klay, that team would have worked out so much better. I'm just so tired of seeing these players who run 5 out spread pick and roll every play, and then people are so shocked when they get a lot of points and assists. It's so one dimensional.
@LogicOverEverything
@LogicOverEverything 3 ай бұрын
@@back2back379 that’s definitely true. But ppl fail to realize that the greatness you got from Klay and Steph off ball was actually because Draymond could run the offense. If At,Anita could just obtain one single other player capable of being an All-Star ATLEAST, this Hawks team would be back in contention. Odd fits and role players aren’t all-stars! Get this man some help. Hell I’m not even a Hawks fan! I’m from Philly! I’m still excited to see this team with the players from the Murray trade and their draft pick. Even if you have two all star guards, it isnt going to make the team into a good one. Pretty sure any other team in the same situation had better system and players around their all star guards to get successful. Also considering the guards they had were all time greats and not just fringe all star level level. Warriors had defensive depth for their guards, all time great shooting, and many other great role players. Mavs have probably the best dribbling skills of all time and maybe the future european goat with again so many really good role players. I dont see how trey and DJ can compare to any of those teams and look who the hawks have around them. I dont see the hawks executives taking responsibility. Just letting the blame go to trey and dj when they didnt even do anything else to build up the team.

Trae does way too much. They'd have the option to play Trae on or off the ball, making him much more of a threat. For example KD , Trae and Murray. I don't think this duo was as bad as people made it seem, and they could win. it's just that the surrounding guys weren't good enough, especially on the defensive side of the ball. They had some solid role players but not deep enough to compete, Add this to the fact that everyone was rarely healthy together. You have your recipe for disaster.

Rocket science, one ball and two guys who wont play off ball. Wonder how that didnt work. They should have studied Harden/Cp3 from 2018 or how kyrie/luka made it work this year

He's historically good on offense... And historically bad on defense... Numbers won't lie. Especially when there are thousands of other ball players to compare numbers to.

Still can’t believe Landry Fields though putting Dejounte Murray and Trae Young together was going to be a good idea

Because he doesnt move without the ball. Just stands at the hash, doesnt even attempt to guard anything, truthfully is not an honest playmaker, he only passes to get assists. So once he gets his 10, he’s done passing. He refuses to adjust his playstyle to win. And Dejounte came to ATL on some chasing numbers BS

Anybody that has watched the NBA for some time knows that pairing up 2 ball dominant point guards NEVER works. It didn’t work with Kidd and K.Johnson in Phoenix Didn’t work with Francis and Marbury in New York Didn’t work with Dragic and IT and Bledsoe in Phoenix Same with CJ and Dame Garland and Mitchell are a wonky fit on both ends
