I get annoyed how all the Grateful Dead documentaries claim that younger Dead Heads came on the scene in the late 80s mainly because of Touch Of Grey and the MTV video. When in reality it was mostly their older music 🎶🎵🎶 & a new generation was becoming old enough to go to concerts. A bunch of teens who never heard of the Dead. Didn't see touch of grey on MTV in 87 & immediately become fans.

I love that around 2:11 when Jerry tries to go to MIDI for the second part of the solo you can practically see his brain say "where are the trumpets? There are supposed to be trumpets. " Then around 2:43, right before the 3rd verse, he summons Parrish with a finger wave to fix it. Garcia plays a holding pattern until Parrish fixes it around 5:37, then plays ANOTHER round to do an on- stage soundtrack with the MIDI, then draws it out, THEN they do the climax before I Know You Rider! This is like 3 transitions and subsequently AWESOME!

In 2005 I began to cycle up Mt. Diablo and passed a tall man leaving at the same time, I slowed to chat and ended up riding to the top with Bill. We had so much in common, loved bikes and The Dead, had oriental wives that when we reached the top we were now friends. He kept in touch, rode with me in Portland, Seattle and the Gorge and bought tickets for me to join him at a Dead concert in Seattle. A modest, intelligent and caring friend who I will miss and remember forever. A great tribute to a fine human.

I was listening, not watching the video. At around the 5:45 minute mark I heard what I thought was an incredible sax solo. When I look at the screen I find that it’s Jerry playing with some kind of guitar synth pedal. It’s obvious that he listened to great jazz horn players when he was growing up. Nobody can and will ever play so fluidly and melodically.

@@GratefulDead5050, thank you for asking. This kid (starting at the middle of the top of the lawn) runs in Birkenstocks at full speed down the middle of the lawn. He's amazingly weaving around groups of Deadheads sitting on blankets. I'm pretty much jaw-on-the-ground watching him. I'm also tripping hard, so part of me is not even sure it's really happening. I see him rapidly approaching a section of wall-to-wall blankets/people: 50 feet wide by 30 feet long, about 100 feet from the bottom of the lawn and the roughly 2-foot high steel fence separating the lawn from reserved seating. There is NO way this kid is going to weave around that section of people, and he's too close to them (going too fast) to stop without taking a serious tumble. About 10 feet before that wall of Deadheads, he leaps into the air. He goes soaring over their heads, bicycle-kicking his arms and legs. He lands about 5 feet in front of the wall of Deadheads, manages to slow down, and finishes the run without hitting the steel fence (and having never hit a single person). Stunned, I look over to my right. I make eye contact with an older Deadhead. He looks like a modern wizard (bald on top, long gray/white fringe hair, longish white mustache, soul patch, round glasses). He also watched the kid's run, sees the look on my face, and can tell how hard I'm tripping. He matter-of-factly says to me, "Yeah dude, that DID just happen." 🤩 -Andy

@jonathanandrewwatkinsartpoetry Certainty can't outdo your Crouching Tiger Hidden Hippy story, or desire to...But this reminds me of a hilarious (true) story I tell when I get the chance: My Older Brother and Cousin were tripping one night and sitting on the couch TV when my Cousin really started getting heavy visuals. My Brother appeared to be unphased, however, so he didnt say anything. A few minutes later, the TV they had been staring at proceeded to grow arms and legs, then hopped off of the cabinet, politely opened the door and walked out into the Texas night. My cousin thought he was going nutso and sat there speechless. My Brother, who was sitting right next to him, cooly looked in his direction and said to His surprise: "Are you gonna go get your TV?" 😆 🤣 😂 Thanks again.

Jerry can play this guitar so easy because the strings seem to move easy with his fingers playing it ! I love him so much that I can’t stop watching him but I try to for a few days so I won’t cry all the time for the lost of him ! ❤️🐇🐰🩵🕊️🪽🐦‍🔥🐉🧚‍♀️🧚🏿‍♂️🧚🏼👽🪐🛸🚀❤️😘🥰😍

That there is a Smokin' Locomotive howling through the Wild Parts of Galaxies. That Train Ruts in the Stars. I got to see them during this stretch of shows. Positive Lightning. That kind of Energy must eventually consume. It got Brett right after this. That's going out in a Glorious Blaze. Does anybody else have the feeling that Mr. Jerome kept a secret stash of "Back up, Bobby, I got this..." as evidenced when J went to take his "I wish I was a headlight" verse, and Bobby was stepping on it, Jerry's voice suddenly didn't seem so frail...and he scorched the earth from there on in...? Righteous Jam, Right On Time.

One show, my girlfriend sat on the bench with Bob and Jerry during Drums. She said Jerry was telling Bob about a cartoon he saw on TV that afternoon. LOL

@@woodzieniles5373 That actually sounds realistic. Want to know why? Because famous musicians spend most of their time pent up in hotel rooms on tour when they're not home.

Jose Villarreal especially the Dead. Kind of sad, in a way.. The woman I was talking about was friends with the folks at Winterland Productions. They sent her backstage passes for each tour. She offered them to me too, but since I wasn't a beautiful woman or have enough "supplies" to share, I felt like I'd just be in the way backstage. "Hi Jerry! I like the way you play guitar." 😑 As much fun as the coliseum hallways were, now I kind of wish I would have gone back and met them at least once. When I'd ask, Monica, my girlfriend, told me bits about what each member did backstage. Mickey mostly hung out by himself away from everyone and constantly drummed on a practice pad. Phil was her favorite. They got along the best. He was the only one to wake up early like her. Sometimes, he'd meet her for breakfast at the hotel dinning room. She went to more shows than me. I went to a LOT, but after a week or so, I would miss my woods and animals, and head back home. I still have a stack of passes. I keep them in my "Go to Heaven" LP.

Jerry is something to behold right when he’s into the second half of his solo on “Rider”, when his guitar begins to “whale.” I can picture being on that midnight train screaming through the rain.
