It’s amazing there are so many people who are like “I didn’t spoil! I said just remember what MaoMao’s dad said! Don’t judge Lakan on conjecture!” You are also a complete dumbass. That implication is that what I perceive of his is wrong aka THE OPPOSITE AKA YOU ARE SAYING THE PLOT TWIST! You are NOT some sort of smart person alluding to something so sneakily that it’s a mystery. You are telling me “hey your perception of him is wrong”. Which is also the fucking spoiler. Enjoy your banning too.

It's very annoying. I see it all the time when people play story-heavy games as well, where people feel the constant need to explain everything even when the story explains later. It's even more frustrating when they probably felt the same way Alicia did when they were at that point in the story- but they lack the self-awareness to allow the story they like so much charm other people the way way it charmed them.

Yeah the only "Spoiling" that is okay if it can even be called spoiling is talking about stuff that she has already seen and simply misunderstood several episodes after the information should be commonplace like how at the very beginning she misunderstood the nature of MaoMao being captured and sold into service at the rear palace, or when it was unclear if she understood that it was the old emperor who liked girls unreasonably young and that the new emperor will only partake in "ripe fruit". However in fact I think that phrasing that information in a way to intentionally deceive her would have been even better like if they connected old information like the beating on the stairs to make him out to be a murderous monster who wanted to kill his own daughter and take her head as a trophy it would have given Alicia pause and rather than spoiling it for her it would have caused the show to subvert her expectations additionally hopefully she wouldn't be mad about the deceit because it was more of an anti spoiler to make sure she still had a good first experience.

So disappointing that people spoiled it for you :'( When I was watching it for the first time my friend constantly teased me about the show saying, "Oh, you are NOT ready." And because we're both writers by nature they were like, "There's a plot twist that you're going to love," referring to Lakan and I agree wholeheartedly. The show did such a good job as framing him as this shady dude even though he hadn't actually done anything evil, that even though I often realize plot twists before they happen, it still took me off guard. What's extra shocking about these people is that they act like it's such an easy thing to get when they're LITERALLY just regurgitating what the anime told them without thinking any deeper on the subject. The anime WANTED you to hate him. They WANTED you to think he was shady; so that the plot twist lands even harder. It's basic writing; not to mention we see him from the perspective of Maomao and Jinshi, two people that are understandably annoyed and angry with him... So there's the added bonus of unreliable narrator. Like... Ugh. Spoilers ruin everything for everyone >:C

I hate that people had to spoil Lakan's twist, it not just ruined it for Alicia, but also for all of us who were looking forwards to seeing her get proven wrong about what kind of person Lakan is (and like Alicia said, it also shows just how dumb they are, as most if not all of them also had no idea that the twist was coming) I wish it were possible for people who spoil things directly to someone (especially if done with malicious intent), to have everything (books, movies, tv shows, animes, ETC) spoiled for them for the rest of their lives (maybe a bit much, so maybe 10 years). See if they then like spoiling things and/or find it funny to do to others.

Man fuck the people who spoiled it. It seems like there is a small group of people going around to different reactors as soon as they reach THAT episode and spoiling it (though someone from your patron is even crazier). Almost every single person I’ve seen has had it spoiled for them. There was even another reactor who called them out for it and someone in the comments was STILL justifying how they were right to spoil it because “you were misjudging his character!” And “you can’t let the show fool you!” THE POINT WAS THAT THE SHOW WAS TRYING TO MISLEAD YOU!

Seriously. I read the manga back when the anime was first announced, and I spent probably a *_week_* furiously wishing for Lakan to end up in a ditch, and then I reached this point and was sobbing like hell for the guy. I very specifically watch reaction videos to see _other peoples' reactions._ Can't know how someone's gonna *_react_* to a plot twist if they know about it beforehand. So stupid. Another reactor's comment sections were *_full_* of people arguing about a scene that shows up in Ep 24, all because it _didn't_ show up in 23, so they just *_assumed_* it had been full-on cut. It wasn't (obviously), but they tried to argue that they weren't spoiling jerks because... they were discussing the _manga,_ and that somehow absolves them of spoiling the selfsame scene that happens in 24???? This is 100000% why, if I ever had a genie, I'd have "Competent Media Literacy" as one of my wishes.

Good storytelling is always more about the journey than the destination. Setting up Lakan as this evil manipulative bastard who toys with everyone around him, only to whiplash you and force you to rethink everything you learned about him, is good storytelling. But it doesn't work if you know he's not a bad guy from the outset, which is why the spoiler harms the story. In case, you know, some people don't get why spoilers are bad.

The thing that surprised me the most in this episode is something that can quickly go over your head, but it's Lakan's uncle. It is said that his uncle was a doctor of the rear palace, expelled from it because of a mistake and who now limps... Lakan's uncle is Luomen, Maomao's adoptive father. Showing even more meaning behind what he says when Maomao tells him that she was at the rear palace, but also that in a way, Luomen still cares about his nephew and wanted to raise his daughter the best he can. Maomao may not have met her father, but she had always been part of his family without knowing it.

It sucks idiots spoiled MaoMao's father for you Alicia, personally I was getting a lot of hints that her father wasn't the villain that the anime was portraying him as. By the way I noticed you missed a minor but important detail in this episode, the fact that the uncle in her fathers story is actually the same elderly eunuch apothecary from the rear palace IE MaoMao's dad. Which means they are actually related since that would make him her great-uncle. I'm not surprised you missed it since it was a very short line and easily miss-able since their faces aren't shown since it is from her fathers perspective. But you do see his uncle walking with a cane, also since we found out MaoMao and Jinshi are very close in age like less then a year apart and we also know that her dad got thrown out of the rear palace after he delivered the Empress Drowager's baby and Jinshi, then was thrown out of the family right after. When his father is yelling at his uncle "First you became a doctor in the rear palace, and now you're exiled" that was our clue that MaoMao's dad and the creepy strategists uncle are in fact one and the same person. It's one of those things where if you aren't paying enough attention it is really easy to miss.

I read this five years ago and by the time the anime came out I forgot a lot of details.. Lakan was one of them. I totally fell back into "oh yeah he was the bad guy and Maomao´s father right?".. to ep 19 when I started questioning my memory and went to reread it.. it´s like I experienced the plot twist twice and it really got to me emotionally.. So it makes me sad you had this one robbed from you.. it´s such a good twist most people didn´t see coming. And it´s what makes it so fun to see people react to. What the hell is the point of spoiling a reactor or someone who´s reaction you want to see!? You´re ruining it for them, for the viewers and even for yourself!

There’s a thing one of the other reactors I watch has their comment section do: false spoilers! The idea is to have so many convoluted and conflicting theories and predictions in the comments that there’s no way to tell what’s the truth. For example: Maomao was trying to pull off something like the “Inconceivable!” poisoning scene from “The Princess Bride”, but forgot that Lakan was a lightweight drinker. She took advantage of the results. Is that true? You have no idea! I might’ve made it up, but you don’t know! (I totally made it up! LOL 😂)

In my experience, I often see people replying to those comments saying stuff like "You are dead wrong. Where the hell did you get that from?", with some even going ahead and spoiling the actual plot to prove it. Worst case scenario, it will be impossible to tell who is telling the truth, but also it would turn the comment section into a hellscape of people fighting each other where you don't even know for sure if the gaslighting is for the sake of hiding spoilers or just to make people mad.

@speculativemusings3593 5 ай бұрын
@@rafaelcalmon2858 while that may be true when the commenters take it upon themselves to fake spoilers, it’s different when the reactor requests it specifically. The reactor I mentioned before specifically requests fake spoilers at the start of every video, so that there’s no confusion or correcting happening. It’s been going on for a few years now, and there’s been very few issues.

@@stillmaomao It’s “Wee Lass Reacts”, she started it during her “Owl House” reaction, and it’s spread throughout her other shows. Most of the time, it’s just a way for the audience to harmlessly troll her with ridiculous theories.

While I better understand Lakan, Fengxian remains a puzzle for me. Was she in love with Lakan or merely admired his gaming skills. Lakan’s guilt was his enjoyment on travel (or in military per light novel) and failing to write even once in 3 years or 1000 days. Yes his father hid your letters, yes the Brothel failed to contact him, yes his Uncle Loumen and now Maomao’s adopted father, … all failed to contact Lakan. I wonder how much this hidden story was promoted by the prideful Fengxian.

Maybe my percpective is diffrent, but I dont think he deserves as much blame for the results. In some ways Fengxian really set up that situation. She sent her attendant away they both knew what they are doing. Both could cummunicate better. It really depends on how much they planned and how much was spur of the moment. I just feel that the person with an inability to connect with people in a normal way due to a real mental illness is less able to know what the reaults of something might be without communication and training. Granted neither communicated well before during or after at least as we were shown. He should had told her he was leaving and what was up, she should have told him she was pregant. Idk just feels like two people that failed to communicate and then life seperated them in an unexpected way but because of failed communcation neither had enough information to relize what was about to happen and couldnt take steps to avoud the bad consquences.

Alicia I am sorry to hear that you had to deal with fans spoiling your enjoyment of the show. Hopefully lessons will be learned and you can safely get invested in another show without people jumping ahead of you. You actually pushed me to finish the series before you so I could both support the official release and to more fully enjoy your reactions. I hope there are more "Moamoa s" for you to enjoy in your future viewings.

If it makes you feel any better, I got spoiled by a novel reader immediately after Lakan was introduced. I mean I had a feeling he was gonna turn out to not be so bad because of the opening but that still would've been more fun to figure out on my own.

I was prepped to gush about Lakan today, kept my damn mouth shut for weeks. I'm sorry it got spoiled for you. All I can say anymore is that I appreciate that the story allows a complicated character like Lakan to exist. He's not a good person. But there are people he's capable of being good for. It's a very mature author who can write that way.

In previous episodes Pairin and Meimei were being harassed by the old woman to accept a buyout. But wording as usual is pretty ambiguous. The author at times drives me nuts, but that is why I am hooked.

A message to the folks who spoil: Idiots will spoil later reveals acting like they never hated the character and understood things faster than everyone else that watches the show after everything aired. Normal people with at least double digit IQs will silently wait with excitement for seeing people's reactions to the reveal actually happening. There are times when someone will overcook something that is displayed as true knowledge into some wacky theory that could have bad consequences if continued seriously into later reveals. It's ok to correct a misconception with displayed info using info that has already been revealed, but if you can't differentiate this from spoiling by using future info then you should keep your mouth shut. It's ok to be stupid but don't drag everyone else's intelligence down by speaking when all you're good for is inconsequential jokes. A message to Alicia: Cook all you want queen. We are here to watch your takes laugh with you.

I wonder how much Maomao understands her father and mother. Maomao is very wise but also a bit judgmental. Recall her initial lack of sympathy for someone who over indulges in alcohol (salt poison episode). I think she understands people’s motivations and misunderstandings - how they can do terrible things but while maybe selfish but also deeply caring, Fengming and Lihua’s Lady in Waiting and Lishua’s food taster. It will be interesting to see what she thinks about Lakan and her mother. But the person who is emerging as heroic is her big sister, Meimei. It is pretty clear she really cherished, Loumen, Old Lady, Meimei, Pairin, and Juka aka her true family - I don’t think she has arrived at that point with any of the Rear Palace ladies, although she does like and/or admire them. It’s these rich, subtle, and changing feelings that make Maomao and the anime characters so interesting. I wonder will we get backstory on identified villains (Suirei) and suspicious Loulan.

I'm confused why people wanted to spoil something. But it sucks, because I have been annoyed and spoiled by things like recommended videos, like thumbnails or something giving away a story, or a character search on a browser shows images or talks about something that I wasn't even looking for. Sometimes it will tell me the fate of a character. But despite being spoiled you got to see the journey getting there at least.

There's a documentary from 2001 called The Human Face that I remember being introduced to this disorder and the idea of a human being having it is wild. Such a huge amount of the human brain has evolved to recognize faces and their emotions and micro-emotions and a ton of other information - having such a highly specialized evolutionary tool just stripped from you must cut off such a huge part of your connection to the human experience.

I’m honestly too bummed to even watch the video. Based on an argument I had on /r/anime in this episode’s discussion thread… I have a pretty bleak theory about why so many source readers seemed to find it so intolerable for a viewer to be tricked about Lakan even temporarily, to the point of failing to realize people are _supposed_ to be tricked (and maybe even forgetting that they themselves were). It’s the fact that he is specifically a male character falsely believed to have raped a woman. And on the modern Internet, that strikes a very specific emotional chord, taps into a very specific narrative, evokes a specter that has for years now been a bogeyman to a great many men. _The dreaded false rape accusation! It’s everywhere! It could happen to you! We must protect ourselves from those devious…_ well, you get the idea. Nobody, real or fictional, owes Lakan an apology (other than his father). He’s not a victim of any kind of injustice. But to a lot of people, it _feels_ like he is.

I had a feeling that’s what was spoiled. Sad that happened because it’s really fun seeing someone think the story is one thing but suddenly it’s revealed it’s something else and their reaction to the revelation. But I guess people just want that but in the immediate instead of enjoying that slow build up both in the story itself and with the person reacting to the story.
