I really liked Maomao’s reflections on Pairin when I read them in the manga - it’s rare that we get that kind of glimpse of just how much Maomao loves the people close to her. “Yeah, everyone knows she dances like a goddess and she’s mind-blowing in the sack… but I’m in a unique position to know that her _real_ greatest talent is as a mother, and it would be a pity if she just took over the madam’s job and never got the chance to have a child of her own.” That’s incredibly sweet. We’ve seen her be prickly when Pairin hugs her, but Maomao _adores_ this woman. It also invites the question of how the Three Princesses ended up in charge of the baby. They wouldn’t have been the Three Princesses then, mind you - from what’s been established about their ages, I think Pairin would’ve just recently become a proper courtesan, and the other two would still be kamuro. If the birth mother can’t or won’t nurse her enough, then sure, get help from the teenage dancer with galactorrhea (who I get the sense loved babies anyway) - but why did the younger girls get involved? And was it just a coincidence that those three had become the brothel’s top stars 16 years later? (No answers in the comments, from anyone who has any. I do have a good guess for ONE of the two girls.)

Purely speculatif, since I haven't read manga or LN. It feel like Jinshi will now be able to use our fav doggo-soldier for more personal/independant mission, for which he would get additional hazard pay, the same way he was/is using Maomao "independently" for those special cases. Basen is a good protector/agent, but he seem to need to stay close to Jinshi, while our doggo-man could be sent outside the capital to operate outside of Jinshi direct sphere of influence/control. Slowly Jinshi seems to assemble a team of competent individual to help in his duty/task.

I'm not sure it's just a matter of laughing at his expense. I have to wonder just how much entertainment any of them can really get in a place like that. I seriously believe that if she could get as much amusement from something else as she does the "Jealous Jinshi" show she'd certainly do so. Him and Maomao just happen to be the best show in town.

Back again for another vid, and still amused to hear that Pairin's sexual appetite is so strong, she'll draw in the trainee courtesans as well when she's "Hungry" enough. Still I have been enjoying my "For those curious" commentary, and it's been a while since I've had a choice. Hmm... Paper, or galactorrhea... Pairin it is! For those curious: You can lactate without ever having been pregnant, this condition is called galactorrhea. It is possible for men to develop, but far more common in women, and there are multiple causes. In men the common cases are related to certain drugs, or hormone imbalance in childhood, but let's focus on the generalities. Firstly the condition does not exclusively refer to breast milk; it can include other discharges, can effect, women, men and babies, and it effects between 20% and 25% of women. Most common causes include: medications, underlying medical issues, a tumour, or overstimulation of the nipples. Common medication include: antipsychotics, antidepressants, birth control, heart burn medications, certain pain killers, blood pressure medicines, medications that contain hormones. Generally anything that interferes with or supplements the bodies oestrogen levels, such as steroids in men (Yes lads we do have some of that womanly yin; or was it yang...). Medical issues commonly cover: thyroid issues, kidney or liver disease, chronic stress tumours or disease of the hypothalamus, any trauma or damage to breast tissue, high levels of oestrogen (in new-borns, hence the condition occasionally effecting babies). Then there's drugs such as opiates, marijuana, and cocaine. Fortunately there is a far more likely cause for our dear Pairin's condition, especially given her... amorous nature. Sexual activity, in particular regular breast stimulation. Over stimulation of the nipples can cause the body to begin lactating, and unfortunately if this is the case requires the individual to consider changing their clothes (Especially if they are tight), practicing other methods of stress reduction, and generally not fondling them. All of which is unlikely to happen in Pairin's case. Generally speaking lactating milk is fine and it will eventually pass, it's the causes that are the concern, and you should seek medical attention if you are having problems, or simply concerned. You should however immediately seek medical attention if the discharge coming from the nipples is not milky and looks clear, bloody, or yellow, as these may be signs of breast cancer.

I think the actual test was not about love or devoton but about integrity. Jinshi doesn't know anything about those two and have no reason to care about them. But Lihaku indeed is close with Maomao and his situation makes him vulnerable to bribery. Jinshi had to make sure no one could buy him out to spy against them or worse.

people are generally more complex then that, just because a person cant be bought out in one area doesnt mean they cant be in others but if we look at what money means in many asian cultures its effort, "the amount of money one has is the amount they have worked" so him saying "i will pay myself" is saying "i will dedicate a year of MY life not someone elses"

You know, Jinshi and Lihaku are pretty similar. With Jinshi’s money and status, he could very easily force Maomao to be his bride. Considering she’s not one to defy Jinshi’s orders, she’d begrudgingly go along with it. But he’s refusing to go the easy option because he wants Maomao to love him back. Like Lihaku, he wants to earn the love of his life, even though there’s a chance it won’t work out for him going down that route.

something to note with lihaku wanting to use his own money is that its not about the money since in asian culture money isnt just money its more "a representation of how much a persons worked" not accurate but that is the framing so lihaku is saying "i will win her over with my own effort instead of somebody elses"

If you're interested in other Ancient China based animes, I would highly recommend "Meng Qi Shi Shen" or "Chef Cinderella". It's a Chinese anime, but it's pretty good. Plus, if you're a foodie, this anime is about food.

There is a reason, and yes it comes up from time to time in the novels. As I cannot say 100% that it's in the material that has been covered I will not give it, but I will say that things have changed, and the act of choosing such a thing was extremely unpopular. In addition there are no palace approved female doctors, and only trained eunuchs are allowed in the rear palace doctors office as a result.
