The front struts are a longer body, they were developed by Rancho for the Trail boss specifically. Infact the AT4 GMC is also specific to it, as the AT4 isn't actually as tall as the Trail Boss. Also the Trail Boss lift has longer CV axles for better angles. The Rear is the only part with a block lift.

I think it is pretty disingenuous or ignorance for Tommy to compare this truck to the Land Rover Defender -- and I'm not even a Chevy guy. First, the Defender has serious restrictions if you want to tow a trailer up to 8,000 pounds. Over 4,000 pounds, you are required to shift into low gear to start out, and then shift into high gear once you are above 30mph or so. More so, the tongue weight can't exceed 300 or so pounds and if you do, you must subtract that weight from the payload and the maximum tow weight is 700 pounds. Yes, you CAN tow up to 8,000 with the Defender, I just wouldn't recommend it. Besides, this truck is not a Defender ... completely different vehicle.

I put 25k miles so far on my 2019 Trail Boss LT and I couldn’t be happier. 21mpg highway, it hauls, tows, and does pretty well off road. The interior is just fine for me and really other than a couple of recalls and software updates I’ve had zero issues and this truck has a tough life. It gets beat on and keeps going.

We have mechanical lockers like the G80, electric lockers that are optional on many trucks, and hard core air lockers. When used correctly, any locker is better than an open diff. To drive this point home, when you do these reviews, bring along a truck with open diffs. Doing this will serve two functions. First, the viewer will see just what to expect from a 4wd truck with stock open diffs. Second, the viewer will actually see what difference a locking axle will make.

Not even a hd denali is competitive with the fords interior. But these trucks are quiet as long as the tires dont wear funny. Smooth as hell even on high speed interstates and wil drive through just about anything offroad. Secondly price point can be changed. Get a custom if you dont want to pay 60k for an lt. INeverLose get a custom trail boss with the 6.2. Cheapest trim with best looks IMO and easily upgradable. (Cheap ability to safely level the truck in several ways: ball joint and control arm lift possible with ready lift and more) also by leveling a trail hose for relatively cheap you get lots of clearance and ability to clear 35s. And even if you don’t wanna level you still can fit 33x12.5 most likely and maintain warranty

I have a 2018 Silverado with the Z71 package. Other than how low it is stock it does great off road. I’m sure it will be better when I lift it. One thing I noticed was how good it was in the snow. One week after I bought it, we took it up to the mountains in Utah for three days. On the last night it snowed a good amount; about 18 inches. We were in a cabin with dirt road access and it did great.

Just picked up a satin steel metallic Trail boss. I fell in love with the looks of it and just had to have it. I personally like the interior but I'm trading up from an 11 year old tacoma. I'm glad that other than the 8 inch screen it still has buttons and knobs as well. Going dirtbiking this weekend and I'm planning on taking it offroad for a little test.

I really like the New trail boss. Good looking truck. Not quite as much power as I am used to, driving an F150, but it is ample. Idk why people say the new GM are trash. I have always had good luck with them. In 2020, it would be a toss up between the Ford/Chevy for myself.
@josephkraft56404 жыл бұрын
You should drive one. And if you want power drive one with the 6.2 and 10 speed. I’ve owned f150s and these new Silverados move pretty well and in my opinion it’s a more comfortable ride.
@bigf15024 жыл бұрын
Joseph Kraft ... Yeah, I drove a 19 model with the 5.3 and 6 speed. It felt nice on the road, and my buddy has a 6.2 with 10 speed, it just about keeps up with my 3.5 ecoboost (stock). The new silverados are def. nice trucks. I went with the Ford, being the Chevy didn’t have a center console, the interior was lacking in 19. Maybe they changed it for 2020? Ford had better interior, and more power for only a few more grand. Although I drive a F150, I still like the GM products.

When the Silverado ZRX comes out, they should keep this set up as Z71 and drop the Trail Boss name. This is the perfect medium. The regular Z71 sits too low, has an air-dam, and looks more like a appearance/sticker package. This looks far more aggressive and off-road capable.
@MrJamesLuz4 жыл бұрын
Mister_Mister420 : Z71 has always been an appearance package. Back in the 90’s I was working in a shop and had a customer come in for service. He was disappointed to find out the G80 didn’t come standard in the Z71. It was an option. We ended up installing a locker or limited slip which later exploded the poor little 10 bolt. I know Chevy has come a long way from the 90’s, but some things like the Z71 stickers or the worthlessness of the G80 haven’t changed.
@TREVORJB1014 жыл бұрын
@@MrJamesLuz ok so the Trial Boss add ons would make the Z71 a little less "worthless" lol

@@MrJamesLuz G80 has some upside for those who don't need a real locker. Of course the option for a manual locker would be nice, but the G80 will just work in all wheel drive for people who aren't the most savvy and may not realize they need it or know how to engage it. It also works in 2wd which is kinda nice if you just need a little extra oomph. Something to be said as well for not having an actuator or wiring to worry about with a mechanical setup. Still, definitely think they need to have an option on the trailboss for an electronic locker.

@kylepeters62974 жыл бұрын
Like u said, it’s not the best off-road, it’s a 6/10 but if Chevy or ford or anyone went any farther with it, you would then be sacrificing your daily driving purposes, like comfort and possible reliability of certain parts. It’ll suffice the weekend warriors who wants a bit of fun on a local trail, and it’ll also take you across the country if it needs too. It’s a great concept that these manufacturers are offering nowadays.

The trail boss does not have a puck lift, it is a real 2 inch suspension lift. Cool thing is you can add a 2 inch spacer lift to it and put on larger tires which will greatly increase the off road worthiness. Also I would like to add I like the interior of my trail boss, I love the fact that it has physical buttons and not a huge touch screen. I find it impossible to use a touch screen while driving always hitting the wrong icons.

Great Father and Son Teamup! The time the G80 takes to lock up out on the trail could be the difference between getting over an obstacle or spinning your tires and sliding sideways into a tree.

Complain about the g80 of you want but it works in 2wd and 4wd and doesn't require the truck to be in any type of mode to work like some others do while using the selectable locker. That thing locked plenty of times and nothing was ever said about that. Only when it spins to lock and you think it should have locked sooner. It does need to see up to a difference of 100rpm to lock

I love my G80! It does what it's supposed to, and I have never got stuck with one. I have had Auburn limited slip units before in my older cars and I got stuck 2 times with the Auburn. If you have one wheel on ice, the Auburn was absolutely useless and only spun the tire on the ice.

Ah yes.. good ol' Tommy "I don't like anything that isn't a Wrangler" Mica. I've done trails harder than that one in a stock trail boss. Remember, the G80 is a low speed traction device. If you are at a high rate of speed, you don't need it locking. You also don't need floor it that much for it to lock. Tapping the gas a bit will do it. Once you learn, you can do it on command in situations that need it. I prefer this set up over the selectable ones because I can use it in 2 high or 4 high or auto. I see a few other trucks that have selectable ones won't let you use it unless you are in 4low. Anyway.
