I found the same RC sparks video and said self...that's a good idea. I did place the servo under the cross member to give the steering rod more clearance from the motor. ...and Tubs says tap, tap, taparoo. :)

This was a great super thorough video. We need more videos like this. I did the motor clock so that the servo sits on the opposite side so the steering links run parallel and I could flop the pumpkin to the other side so its the exact same as a real HiLux. This motor drop idea is AMAZING ... something I kept staring at but couldn't comprehend because I have all different motor and tranny mounts so it all looks different but you have now shown me the light! I also overdrove the front axle slightly and under driver the rear axle to stop the back fights and front flips on the downhill. Greatest mod I have ever done but it's not an easy mod by any means. Thanks again for sharing your great work and video. Sub'd.

Jair Janes , your too kind! Thank you.. the servo flip is something I’m going to look at! Thanks! I do get a tiny bit of bump from the motor under full suspension compression but the benefits of the low weight over a tiny bump are huge, I have run side by side with those that have the stock motor setup and they could not believe the difference! Thanks again!! Hope to do more videos soon!

Mid Life R/C as long as it works dont worry about them. I will not be running the steering shock so will hopefully have abit more clearance, See how we go. Will also do it to my hilux tf2 if it all works out. Thanks again 👍

Awesome. That was long buddy & very detailed. If someone can't do the motor-drop conversion after watching this....they have no hope. Hahaha. Dropping the servo is easy and you have plenty of room. It'll give you a better angle on your steering linkage and have more motor to link clearance . All you do is mount the servo to the bottom of the chassis instead of the top. On Medic's video...it appears to me that David has the motor clocked one more notch down, that is also why he's running the steering link to the passenger side...... I still might try another notch down later. If I do, I'll let you know of the outcome and if there are any additional mods besides moving the steering link to the other side. I can't believe you did all that work without removing the servo. I'm sure I never had to move the front crossmember to get the motor in....but then again you have a closed-ended motor that's longer. I'm getting about 3 inches of flex with the O-ring modification and moving the leafs around. Mediums on the bottom for support & short leafs on top for anti-wrap. Tom

Ha! Thanks for the great words Tom.. After I got it up on KZbin, and watched it I realized that doing your servo drop eliminates the need for a spacer on the horn... I'm a bone head!! Lol

Mid Life R/C what is the clockable tranny plate made of that's on the RTR? Is it the same weak cast aluminum material that's on the kit?

+Mid Life R/C Oh ya!....I love "Stupid amount of torque". hahaha. Tuning Castle-link Punch-control down to 35% and a nice S-Pattern to the throttle curve helps keep "braking torque" in check....and of course running the strongests parts and 3s instead of 4s(man...I love 4s) , helps keep the TF2 together. Tom

jimmy ravello , hi Jimmy... ya kno... I’m not sure, I think the links might get in the way... I do have a d90 chassis, if I recall the “ clock” part will be almost the same. Just not sure about the clearance ... the d90 is almost an exact clone in ways of the TF2. Give it a shot, but don’t cut till your sure. Thanks for watching

The trailfinder is naturally " top heavy", and by lowering the motor you help to lower the trucks center of gravity... And it was a fun mod to do! Thanks for watching

Hello Mr Josh, I just bought a New TF2 kit build. I found this video and watched it. I just did the Motor drop mod on mine the same way you did. After I got the mod done, I noticed that the servo Steering rod hit the motor when I turned and on suspension compression. I moved my servo to bottom, and that fixed the problem of it hitting. Just wondering if yours did the same? Thanks

Josh, I love the motor drop video. But after I did the drop, I hate to say I did not like how I could see the motor under and below the chassis rails. Not sure what I will do about that.

@midliferc1165
@midliferc1165 7 жыл бұрын
So, I got you an answer! "Good morning Josh. The motor plates & mounts are the same on all the M3 trannys regardless if it the 2-speed or single speed or in the Gelande or D110 or Trailfinder and as far as i know the width most the chassis's including the Beast 6x6 and 8x8 are the same(except the "heavy" equipment...and that...I just don't know). So...to answer your question....Yes...you can do the motor-drop conversion on the Gelande. The 3-link is the real problem.....primarily the panhard-bar.....that's up to the owner to figure out because it would go right through the dropped motor. Depending on which side of the axle...right or left knuckle he will use for steering off the servo will determine how much bump-steer he will have. I have a 3-link set-up I'll be installing on my custom lwb Trailfinder that I'm scratch building but I just barely started collecting parts and far from assembly. It'll be all RC4WD parts except the axles...I'm going with 10.2 Xtra-Speed/Boom (they are the same casting)axle to take advantage of the steering and 3.75 gearing. Motor-drop conversion will be in full effect. Hahaha Tom
