Having a timetable system makes no sense since time is scaled and loading/unloading at a station easy takes a day of ingame time. And if it uses real world time, then thinks gets messy when u change the ingame speed. Ideally choosing the amount of cargo vehicles for trains would be great, like you can do for passenger vehicles. Alright, junctions were badly designed but overall, there too many trains on one line, this asks for the doubling of the line. And also, try to seperate passenger and freight trains if possible. Plus if the bypass is longer than the track going through the station, the trains will still try to go through the station. So place the station so that it takes a detour to go to it. Plus you can set priorities at junctions with stop signs and they are disabled by default. Put the priority on the fastest track, the bypass for instance or on the exiting track to clear the way first for the others.
@VestedUTuber5 жыл бұрын
There's also the fact that the rail lines were an absolute spaghetti bowl in general. A good idea is to use the minimum number of routes as possible, and have your stations in-line. Having a ton of junctions everywhere is both unrealistic and results in train gridlock.
@alienrenders5 жыл бұрын
In my game, the AI will always use the bypass even if it is longer. I was worried I'd have to do like you said but found it was unnecessary... at least so far.
@MrSoundMaxx5 жыл бұрын
@@VestedUTuber I like what you said.... I think. Do you mean isolate lines and/or sections? If you did this works great. Not every train needs to drive by every station. If you divide your city into zones and make lines go to those sections it cuts down on the wait time for trains to come and out of stations. Like on this map he had a LONG line of trains waiting for 1 train to leave a station.
@VestedUTuber5 жыл бұрын
@@MrSoundMaxx Isolating lines is definitely the best way to do it as far as efficiency goes, but it's not the most realistic. But even just making sure that you don't have any main lines connecting to each other in weird ways can make a huge difference.
@MrSoundMaxx5 жыл бұрын
@@VestedUTuber Actually if you take a look at major cities they do isolate them. Granted they all cone in on one line but after they get to a point they do get split up to go different areas. Normally this happens at a hub of some sort. IN St Louis they have 2 major hubs but many trains can avoid that and go to terminal destinations. The passenger trains will divert and completely avoid the freight train routes.

Thanks Biffa. I deleted a map on Saturday because of this. It was at 23k industry, for the Eiffel curse. Wasn't happy. I had good spacing, bypass lines, seperate public service. I tried reducing the budget, I don't think it affects cargo though? I tried making a train-about, wasn't a good idea. Damn thing was enormous and was easily less than 50% efficient! I found a cure that got trains running exceptionally well, sever all external links! Unfortunately that crippled the economy, lol. I think the raw resources were what tipped it into gridlock but it's difficult to say for sure. So, then I watched all your DLC reviews and bought both season passes. Spent all Sunday messing with 2 and 4 lane motorway ;) I'm starting to think it's lack of experience building on the grid that's the issue. Something you mentioned on a previous upload is that it has to function but also has to look good. Yeah, I've thought for while style might be holding me back (form vs function). Some advice that I've picked up from watching content creators and my own experiences. 1) keep the external lines (let's call them the international network) separate from your internal lines (local network) - if you have a central train station, have this international line use 1 platform only, passengers can transfer to local trains and vice versa here. 2) I do have an international freight line, this shares the international network, but it has it's own platform at a large freight station, which also extends to it's own dock that internal freight does not use, if you're playing vanilla, use 1 dedicated freight station for international traffic. 3) As bsquiklehausen stated in a Cities Skylines tutorial, it is best to have terminus type of lines from your central station "spider legging" out to different districts or towns, have a decent sized central station with multiple platforms and have 1 platform for 1 line, that might stop at 3, 4, 5 or 6 stations before reaching the last district or town, and then the line terminates and the train returns to the central station. 4) finally, make sure you keep your local freight trains on it's own dedicated line, I have one large freight station that acts like a hub at the docks, so I can have multiple freight lines, but the most important thing is, do NOT mix freight and commuter traffic on the same lines, as if a train has to wait, that's when your spacings get messed up and traffic backs up. Following these rules negates the necessary need for bypass lines, as commuter trains act like buses, u have a set number of trains on a line and when spaced out, they never interrupt one other and freight trains usually go from A to B then despawn, so it's unlikely they'll bump into one another on their line either.

it may have already been said but i noticed the cargo ship hub and the train traffic building up its related solely to off map cargo so it needs a transfer to the external line otherwise the only dedicated line outside is the one you built in the west. it sends its cargo all the way to that interchange through the city. the link to the north is where you want to tap into the external line.

I read somewhere that having too many train terminals generates too many trains. If your trains are running with hardly anything in them, maybe there are too many terminals? Check several trains for their % full and if many of them are less than 30% try disabling some terminals. There is also a mod that causes trains to wait longer for their cars to be filled before departing the station. That can have positive and negative effects, but mostly it cuts down on the total number of trains.

The Metro Overhaul Mod needs to be made native as subway systems do come out to the surface, and ALL rail-based transport networks need the option to install signals and blocks. Trains forming orderly queues isn't realistic, especially considering the default speed limit of railway lines is "no limit" according to Traffic Manager. Signals could be used to stop trains from proceeding across a junction to stop at another just in front blocking the previous one whereas in the real world it wouldn't enter the junction in the first place. Plus I can implement fast and slow lines better with them.

@@Nightzero86 America abhors roundabouts. You usually only see them in swanky shopping districts. The rest of the country is all stop lights and cloverleaf interchanges.

It's changing tho... I mean, I live in Oregon... Which is literally one big "swanky shopping district"... But as a kid I almost never seen one, I know of at least a dozen or more that have popped up in the last decade.

No tea deliveries? Good thing coffee deliveries aren't affected. THAT would be a crisis!

I think what would be a funny video is Biffa trying to fix one of RT's old Country Roads city save where he left off with craters and floods and Biffa needs to fix it but can't change the basic layout.

I always got problem with trains, especially when the number of intercity is very high plus many cargos entering the city. Never use roundabout and junction till now, mostly because it's not that realistic.

How can I stop trains from coming into to a specific hub but have my trains deliver from it? Basically I only want to export cargo and not import any cargo

I think you might have answered this question Somewhere, but what sorts of mods would you think are important to use in city skylines to obtain convenient tools and assets. (by that I mean those that are helpfull to do your trafic management and put your standardised junctions, etc)? Well anything that could help me started. I'm thinking of purchassing the game, since your videos are very good (and relaxing in Some way) i'll defenitly be using your link when I finally get it.
