Welcome to another trip report! Today we are traveling from Hamburg Hbf station to Berlin Hbf, in Germany 🇩🇪 with the ICE 1 in first class. The ICE, also known as Intercity Express, is the system of high-speed trains of the Deutsche Bahn, the German national railway company. Hope you enjoy!

The 1st ICE Generation in 1991 really made a difference in traveling fast and comfortably. The cabin is wider than the other ICEs and even after refurbishments it's still a reminiscence to train travel between all that aeroplane-like EMUs. One highlight is the restaurant car, wich is really spacious and light. What a pity, that there was no service, the range of food and drinks is good and reasonably priced. Probably they were lacking staff. Also the compartments remind one to "the good old times", when strangers talked to each others instead of isolating themselves with electronic devices and headphones.Those were often the most interesting conversations and made traveling special.

Still the most comfortable ICE there is. I’m so glad DB is going to modernize them for another 10 years of service. Considering they’re 30 years old they still look fairly modern, besides that old Bundesbahn Logo (which I find delightful).

The ICE 1 is the best of them. The Mix of Compartments and big space, the first class bigger toilets :D, and especially this train you took, it goes overnight to Munich where it arrives around 7:30 a.m. and the compartments are REALLY helpful when you want to sleep.

I didn't know that it arrives to Munich the next day! I've made the journey from Munich to Hamburg on other occasions but the train didn't take this long. I think it was about 6 hours. I find curious the service that you commented me. And yes, I also think the ICE 1 is a very good train comparing with other ICEs. I hope you liked the video and I invite you to subscribe! @@marcostrain Yeah, that's as far as I know the only Train that goes that journey. From Hamburg to Berlin, Erfurt, Frankfurt and Stuttgart to Munich. That takes some time, even for the ICE.

Very nice the front and end carriages look like locomotives but anyway the trains look very nice and posh despite looking old the Germans take care of there trains something British train company's should take note of

Cus they are locos mate. They are power cars which means there are no underfloor motors in the coaches. Much better than EMUs I think.

I don't remember but I have looked at the ICE 1 seating map and the seats 51, 53 and 55 are not faced.

I sadly never rode the ICE 1 but I think it’s better than the ICE 3M which runs here in The Netherlands

In my opinion, the ICE 1 is one of the best trains ever built. You definitely have to travel in one someday!

ICE 2 is not a remake and the train will be gone sooner than the ICE 1 due to the worse build quality. They used more aluminum instead of steal to build this train, thats the reason it is harder to repair.

The ICE 2 is actually worse than the ICE 1, so it'll go the opposite way. Quite a few differences between the two aswell, for example that the ICE 2 only utilizes one "loco" and instead it has a cab car, the ICE 1 has locos on both ends.

German Norwegian That is exactly what I wrote. ICE 2 is gone sooner, due to its build quality.

Hello Declan. Although you can guess intuitively the train by the service it's doing and the route covered, I always check this website to be sure: www.vagonweb.cz/razeni. Here you can find all the train compositions from almost every European country. I hope this helps you!

Why go to the restaurant car? In First Class service is at your seat.

Any train crew asked in first class during the trip between Hamburg Hbf and Berlin Hbf if any passenger wanted to order food.

Absolutely worst trains in Europe, not to mwntion how they are keeping full lights all during all night!!! This practice should be outlawed!!!

To travel like that just need a train ticket or passport id card also ?

I'm sorry I don't understand what you mean. To travel onboard ICE trains you need a valid ticket or pass. There are some types of tickets where you are required to also show your ID or passport to the inspector. I hope this answers your question.
