I started studying both Muay Thai and Muay Chaiya in Mexico with a retired professional Mexican Muay Thai fighter and studied under him for about a year. I'm now in Argentina and training Muay Thai only. He basically said something like "all good Muay Chaiya fighters are good Muay Thai fighters but not all good Muay Thai fighters are good Muay Chaiya fighters". Many Muay Chaiya schools are really good schools that usually teach both Muay Thai and Muay Chaiya as well as make the strengths and weaknesses of both known to their students. One of the biggest advantages that Muay Chaiya gives a fighter is the ability to fight in both traditional and southpaw guards. The 12 basic beginner level combos flow from one guard to the other constantly. That can cause problems later on with switching guard to often but that is an easier problem to fix than learning both guards separately. The guard was a little awkward for me at first but now that I'm used to it I perfer the Muay Chaiya guard over Muay Thai and in sparring I tend to revert to the Muay Chaiya guard by default. I've had more than one Muay Thai fighter say something like "you are hard to hit" and I think they also mean to say "it hurts when I try to hit you" but pride probably won't let them say it.

It is nice that you train Muay Thai Chaiya! It will be a combination of Wing Chun hands and Thai elbow to enrich your techniques

Great insight into the Muy Chaiya martial arts. I am very impressed with the versatility of the elbow and the low short kicks. And those continuos defence & attacks are really threatening. I wouldn't want to face that! Like that leg hook! I especially loved the running commentary throughout, and it's comforting to know that your Wing Chun was effective in certain scenario 💪 This has got to be the most informative and challenging sparring I've seen you do. And thanks for sharing again! Sifu, I am really excited to learn Muy Chaiya now.

Lol! I too succumb to lies by kru Leg. I trained with him three times per week for a wasteful month. If you enjoy the charm and fairy lore of ancient muaythai, it'd be all right. But don't expect it to be efficient as sport muaythai which you've previously trained.

@@leowingchun Sport muaythai is much better. As I said, muaychaiya lives on myth. None of muaychaiya trainers have fight experience at profesional level at prestigious Ratchadamnoen and Lum[inee stadiums. The sparring on your clip is pathetic.
