Trainee recruits from the Queen's Division in Catterick have received an unexpected lesson in Chinook helicopter deployment.
The Infantry Training Centre often requests Chinooks for training, but the RAF is only able to supply them on rare occasions.
The Chinooks flew the recruits to where they began the second tactical exercise of their 26-week course, spending four days out in the field.

Right, This is what you should be advertising on T.V for new recruit's, when the soldier said "I get to go around the world and enjoy my job" was a genuine statement. Also the lads who have never been in a helicopter (much of the youth today) were loving it. That's what you should be pushing instead of the main steam advert's. BTW respect to you all :)

Did a Chinook deployment from Hohne Camp to the Luneburg Heath in summer 1990. It was a blast hopping over trees and high tension cables like a rollercoaster. Thankfully, no one on our flight puked but someone did from another platoon - it went everywhere (so we were told).

Best chopper to embark after days in the field and you are cold and wet. The big engines at the back pour heat all over you.

Some might be, however additional batches have been delivered to the RAF through the 90's and in the last decade too. At the 2018 RAF 100 event in London there was an original 'ZA' registered one in the static display, a crewman confirmed that but they are all updated in a rolling program to current standards.
