Congratulations on getting your shop up up and running Kevin. Great job on getting your training up and running also. For anyone reading these comments, Kevin is my “go to guy” for fusion 360 CADCAM. Whenever I get stuck, he’s the one that gets me out of trouble. Do yourself a favour and sign up to his class. I promise you you that you won’t be disappointed. Without a doubt one of the best trainers I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with.

I agree, Kevin is one of the best on youtube for fusion 360 tutorials. Im so happy to see you also will be using Sinumerik.

Thanks for the kind words. I’m looking forward to learning how to use the control, I’m also a little apprehensive at the same time while gathering the basics to get started.

Thanks Paul. I'm really excited to get using this machine. It seems like things are impossible to order these days. I had to buy a new fridge last month. Let's just say I really didn't get a choice of what I wanted to buy. I sort of had to take what was available, and there weren't many choices!

I’ve enjoyed and learned from your Fusion videos. I hope you have a better experience with that Eastwood compressor than I did. First one I got arrived damaged. Replacement unit had an electrical component fry after a couple weeks. I sent it back to Eastwood and found an older Hydrovane compressor locally that was just as quiet and has been rock solid. Good luck setting up the shop and with the new training classes.

Well, fingers crossed that will be the case. It wasn't an inexpensive purchase. There was also no indication that it was backordered when I placed the order. I was a bit surprised to see that part when I logged back in to see the status for the order.

Hey Bobby. Thanks! I’m not sure I would recommend the mill fundamentals class for you since you have been through the two classes on CAM already. Either the Introduction to parametric modeling or the Fusion lathe class might be better options for you.

Hi, I am in the UK, and could well be interested in a training course - maybe your evening class would work? I will go and lok at your site now... Great work BTW!

Hi Phil. Working on getting the new schedule published. Send me an email to kevin @ mechanicaladvantage dot com and let’s see if I can put something on the schedule that will work for my friends in that part of the world too.

The propane heater produces water vapor and carbon dioxide (and possibly carbon monoxide). This may not be a good heating solution for an enclosed machine shop.

Hi Chris. Thanks for the info. You will see in the video that there is an electric heater hanging in the corner. The only time I'll use the propane heater is if I didn't plan ahead to turn the electric heater up ahead of time. If I use the propane heater, I'll only use it for about 10 minutes, so I'm not terribly concerned. This propane heater is extremely safe when it comes to carbon-monoxide as well. In Minnesota we are well versed in safety using heaters like this.

So wish I could do the inaugural milling course. I'm too busy in my own shop right now, but maybe in the future. I'll be curious to hear about your experience with the Eastwood compressor. I could use a similar solution for my situation. Also, looking forward to your experience with the Syil. I had an X4 and was dissatisfied in every single metric. I do hope they have got better!

Hi Chris. Sorry you had to miss it, but don’t worry, there will be future CAM classes down the road. Things have been crazy this week but I hope to spend a lot more time in the garage soon. Need to do a little rewiring to get the compressor going and then it will be super close to go time!

That’s great Kevin! Congratulations on both the machine power wind your training program, I was just thinking about reaching out last week to see what your hourly consulting rate was LOL. Though I use it daily, my proficiency with F360 is not what I want it to be.

Thanks! Now if the air compressor will just show up so I can get to messing around and learning the control a bit. Don't forget if you need any help to use the code KZbin1 for 25% off any of the packages.

I think the Siemens is just a bit of a step up. I believe it can handle reading of code faster, and it’s from Siemens and runs on tons of other CNC machines.

Great to see the phase converter up and running. I'm sure you need lots of insulation in the garage in the winter (?8 months) and mosquito spray for the other months :) Will you be running any classes in Feb?
@MechanicalAdvantage
@MechanicalAdvantage 3 жыл бұрын
Well, November - March/April probably. I’m hoping to convert this place from electric heat to natural gas heat over the summer. I’m a bit shocked at my heating bills. I’ve been running about $400 a month and that is before the garage heater and phase converter 🙈 I’ll be running a class in February for sure. Just not sure which one yet. I’m leaning towards the introduction to parametric modeling for now, but I could be easily swayed if people are looking for a different option. Now if these air compressors would stop being put in backorder, I’d be able to this thing cutting! :)

@@MechanicalAdvantage geez whats your price per kw? something cant be right, im guessing you have a heat pump maybe the refrigerant is low? i cant even hit a power bill that high in the middle of the summer ga temps, with ac on max with 4000sq ft to cool. word of warning with that propane heater. when you burn propane the result is a significant amount of water vapor, humidity/water vapor from propane heaters is death to machine tools as surface rust becomes a real issue, it the last thing you want on your ball screws and ways! use it sparingly and spray the machine surfaces down with a rust inhibitor spray. not sure what kind of doors you have but i installed double insulated garage doors on my place and it made a huge difference, i can just leave the internal door between the house and the garage now and it stays as a reasonable temp without running up my heating/cooling bill too much. if you just want to get the machine running just go buy an el.cheapo harbor freight compressor not sure what the x7 air requirements are but if it doesn't have an spindle then the 29gal model would probably be enough 5.9 CFM @ 90 PSI, 7.3 CFM @ 40 PSI
