Alonso never intended to have Jake as part of his team. He was pre-determined to be the scapegoat before he even started his shift. That's why he forced him to hit the crack pipe, to have leverage over him.

+Off The Shelf Reviews I love this movie! Being from LA, Inglewood specifically. Knowing about the people within the LAPD that the Alonzo was ultimately based on really spoke to home. So many things changed within the gang life on the streets after the Rampart scandal. Innocent bystander incidents diminished dramatically from the 80s and early-mid 90s. Gangs became far more organized and the smart ones became legitimate business people, consequently turning into organized crime groups rather than street gangs. I can talk about this all day, that said, thank you for yet another amazing review!

I heard that the reason why Alonzo even came up with the idea to use that gang to kill Jake was after Jake saves the girl he asks her who her people are and tells her to have them take care of those guys who try to rape her. At that moment Alonzo puts in the back of his head he can use them to kill Jake If need be not thinking Jake had the wallet. This theory makes sense cause Alonzo throughout the whole movie was improvising. 2 examples are when he goes to Rogers's house he ask him what will he be doing later. The menu on the car he uses as a warrant. Even robbing the sandman who he got the info from snoop to pay the wise men to get a warrant for Roger

The snail metaphor is jake is the snail & alonzo is the frustrated man. He threw jake to the Mexicans & got out& when he turns up again Alonzo is like shit. Jake is the annoying snail that keeps coming back for alonzo. Theirs a great deleted scene where Alonzo tells a story how he started off good . I also thought the line alonzo says " let the animals take eachother out " jake let's the criminals take eachother out.

Great movie, my only problem with it is that I think it should have ended in the jungle with gunshots after it zoomed out or something, getting killed by russians wasn't quite as poetic justice-y as getting killed by the people he had been abusing and living off of all his career would have been.
@nocapdog16964 жыл бұрын
Johan Öberg ya it would’ve been more realistic that way
@Rob-sk1im10 ай бұрын
This flick was good until Alonzo blows away Roger in front of Jake. There's no WAY that Alonzo would expose Jake to that degree of his criminal actions after just meeting him that day. Then, when he kills Roger, that's when this film became dumb. Jake would have found a way to contact his superiors and call for assistance. Whatever realism they were going for was tossed away with that scene. In reality, Alonzo would have blown away Jake with Roger as he was a liability.

I actually thought that the mexican gang was another test for Jake since Alonso knew about the the saved nieces cousins. Through it's unclear if Alonso knew about Jake having her purse, he might have guessed that the saving alone might be Jakes joker. If he actually wanted to get him killed he easily could have done so during the raid at Roger's.
@whitneytrevon3 жыл бұрын
Whether Alonzo knew that the girl was Smiley’s cousin is up for debate. But he had no idea Jake picked up that wallet. Alonzo had every intention for Jake to be killed by the Mexicans. He underestimated Jake (and Jake was kind of lucky if we’re honest). As soon as Jake didn’t accept that money, Alonzo realized that he was unable to be corrupted. The plan was to blame everything on Jake when I.A. did their investigation. That’s why Alonzo had Jake smoke that PCP early in the film. Alonzo should’ve listened to Paul at Roger’s house and killed Jake right then.
