Thinking about future videos.....What are some resistance band questions that you have?
@rvb42125 жыл бұрын
On the bands itself: - How long do they last? (I read about 1 year) - Maximum stretch of a band? - Did a band ever snap? On pull excercises: The strength curve for pull Excercises are not ideal for resistance bands, as it gets harder the closer you get to your body. Any tips on this? I was thinking about taking a lighter band and pre-stretching, so there is less variability?
@matthewg.garcia94155 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your videos James! I originally bought a set of the power band style like the ones you sell to do assisted pull ups because I'm terrible at pull ups and wanted to get better. Eventually I want to use them for resisted pull ups when I get stronger at them! You can either loop them inside themselves to the pull up bar like you did to the door anchor, and put you knees inside, or you can string the band across a large cage style weight rack on a barbell rest if it has multiple rests kinda like a belt, put your knees on top, and use them that way to help with your pull ups. I hope I'm making sense! Just a thought for your videos!!

It would be interesting to see positive effects of RBT in terms of strength development results measured in the three powerlifting movements.
@rvb42125 жыл бұрын
@@RenatIlyasov I love deadlifting with bands, by stacking them up you can go pretty "heavy". Benchpress should work if you work with a bench. Not so sure about squats with multiple bands/heavy resistance.

@@rvb4212 the bench is roughly substituted by resistance bands push ups (along with some obvious additional benefits of push ups over the flat BP). The question is how well do the RB push ups replace the BP in terms of developing strength in the movement.

Extra-Pro tip: If you have to do anchor from the open side of the door, try to anchor it on the HINGE side of the door. There is a lot of extra hardware to pull against and almost no chance that the door will come open. (most doors have enough room to squeeze a foam pad through when fully open)

Hey James, I'm a woman , who's been working out with weights, for 34 years. 4 months ago, I stopped using weights, and bought several kinds of flat bands. I get a much better workout, and my strength has significantly increased, even my grip strength. I use an old motorcycle helmet bag, to store them in. I love flat bands!! You're a good teacher, and you know that you should listen your body, to determine your workout, not numbers. The positive results show up in your body. Thanks a bunch, for your videos. I’ve been working out for a couple of weeks with these resistance bands, and they’re awesome. I now feel a lot more fibers being activated in my muscles, which I’ve never felt by working out with free weights. I now understand the concept of constant resistance in all movement planes. I love the amount of possibilities that you have when it comes to adjusting the level of resistance for each exercise. It doesn’t matter when gyms will open up again. I literally just cancelled my membership. Best of all, I can do any workout from home, or when I go to the beach with my friends and family, I use to miss those moments because I preferred to go to the gym. Now I can do both activities together and take my “portable gym” everywhere with me.

@@deanwaller8283, Unfortunately, we all get to that age eventually when our joints just can no longer take the pounding they once did even on 8-week cycles and tearing all the weights back down to the light sets for 4-weeks and jumping back up to the heavy (which comes around quickly I might add... lol) With these bands that James has brought to the market I actually get not only a better workout but I can hit the muscle from different angles just by making slight adjustments. I've used cables like James has indicated I think we all started there but the problem I had was switching out those damn plastic handles when increasing tension of the bands which I seemed to break at least once every 2 months. After I had one handle practically explode that was it for me. But with these bands, I can add as many as I need to increase the tension. However, just because you think you handle more tension does not mean you will have good form. So while I am accustomizing myself to these bands I keep enough tension to where I have good form but very close to failure on my last reps.

What I particularly liked in this video doesn't even have to do anything with resistance bands; it was the recognition of how fluctuating your workout experience can be. I started to train in my teenage years, and honestly never experienced steady, consistently increasing strength or volume capacity; there are so many factors that influence our performance. A lot of people make it sound like you can just expect to continually increase your weights or do more reps in each workout. And then when you have different experiences you get frustrated and you question yourself. We aren't actually that good in timing the concentric and eccentric parts of the repetitions to begin with, so the time under tension can vary quite a bit with the same reps. We simply aren't robots. It's much more fruitful to focus on fatiguing as many muscle fibers as we can, with time under tension in the ballpark for ideal hypertrophy.

@@ohioguy727 I'm glad I tried this different type of training! It's not my favorite but I think it's good to add to your repertoire, especially if you have to travel or really don't have access to gym equipment. I'd be interested in trying some of their other programs; I know there's one with more cardio/hiit stuff blended in and that sounds more like my preferred style of training. I did just the basic program and as a woman, I found it disproportionately focused on upper body. There are 4 days of upper body and only one day of legs each week. There is also a lot less variety than I had imagined; within any of the given months in the program, all the weeks are the same exercises, and the lower body is the same throughout the whole 90 days. I'm disappointed with the repetition and the fact that they don't teach more ways to use the bands for lower body, but in the program's defense, it is a strength training program, so the fact that they teach you a set of core moves which you then repeats isn't inappropriate. I might try their other program and see how it goes!

James, I sometimes like to just loop the entire band through the door attachment rather than tying it off in that knot. It allows double resistance for each arm. Again another way of adding resistance to your band training. You can also do the same thing by stepping on top of the entire band, rather than stepping inside the loop, pretty much like you were doing with the side lateral raises, except you use both arms at once instead of just one side at a time. I know this is a little confusing but it is just like when you were doing your bicep and tricep workout video in your warehouse a few years back, using the metal racks as an anchor point (rather than a door with a door attachment). I also have a set of hook handles that I like to use (you can google The Hook) that work beautiful for this type of training, instead of just using your hands, which is ok too. The Hook handles just make the exercises a bit more comfortable. Thanks for the great videos.

Here’s the thing. kzbin.infoUgkxS7ex6L4sMqpaTn4LnBPyBmRQsSingL8y These are not meant to be stretched to 12ft or 14ft or whatever else where you’re a 6ft person, stepping in the band and trying to do standing shoulder presses. If they tear, (assuming they’re not defective) then you’re trying to stretch them way too far. For a full body stretch, bands should be like three feet long, doubled over. Don’t buy the bad press. A fully extended reverse fly is avoid as far as you should stretch these. If it’s too easy, use more than one band at a time.Not rocket science.

Thales Souza Freire hey my friend. Bands should last a long time as long as you follow a few precautions. The first is making sure that you never anchor them against anything rough or sharp. Natural latex is very durable as far as stretching but they can get damaged easily from sharp surfaces. The other thing you want to do is keep them dry and out of the sun when storing them.

Awesome video, extremely inspiring, great content and well presented. I love resistance band training and carry bands wth me everywhere. For me however the most significant downside with resistance bands is they can break and need to be regularly checked and replaced.

You can go on hinge side as hinge will stop sliding

100%, depending on the door. My door happens to be too tight on the hinge side, so it's on a "door by door" basis.

I've used those bands for several months and have had tricep development due to them. You just need to use your imagination and creativity a bit to anchor or hinge the bands to increase resistance.

Great video, I believe everyone should get a set of RB even if you have gym subscription because you can use them anywhere anytime.

Hi James, I bought your Undersun bands and the Build app program. I’m in the last few weeks of month 3 and wondering where I should go after this. Can I do a reverse pyramid with your bands or should I go back to free weights for 3 months before going back to the bands? Thank you

Hey Ken. So the best thing to do is go back to the beginning of Month 2, when the "anchored exercises" kick in. You can repeat Month 2 & 3. One trick that I like on sets 2 (your first set of 10) is to do an explosive concentric, then do a full 1-second isometric and a 3-second eccentric (negative). This will give you a solid 4+ seconds of TUT, and will really maximize your contractions.

What do you think of the X3 bar and using that with a resistance band? Other than the crazy cost.

So my only question with these is with changing the resistance how do you know you have the same level of resistance both sides say if your doing bicep curls

One thing I do is if I need to use the door anchor in the mid range of the door where top or bottom dont work, I feed it through the other side of the door where the hinges are and the hinges keep it in place for me.
