Although I don’t approve, the rake of JHAs with all that graffiti looks impressive. A lot of that graffiti is skilfully done and proportioned just right - not easy to do close up on such a scale. In modelling terms, it would be great to have a complete rake like this running around an exhibition layout. It would be quite an eye opener. I think that this is a shocking waste of ARC stone hopper wagons. Surely they are still good enough to run out of the Mendips? Great video.
@AnthonyValentine-vm1yc16 күн бұрын
I agree with what your saying, I am in also two minds. Yes, indeed if it were possible to recreate for model rlwys, it would certainly stir a rousing debate.

They are being replaced. VTG are supplying 203 new build hopper wagons to Mendip Rail now and into 2025. These wagons are nearly 35 years old and are used intensely. Some of the old fleet, such as the O&K built wagons for Yeoman are restricted to 45mph, loaded or empty.
@CaptainTony115 күн бұрын
@@neilcrawford8303 Thank you. Mmmm…… 35 years old. How time flies. I used to enjoy standing on the platform at Westbury and watching them. Then there were the ARC and Yeoman PGAs ……!

Always a sorry sight stuff being scrapped than the loco hauling them. Odd how the 37s keep working well past there design life yet we have plenty of newer better locos just rotting in sidings
@andrewreynolds494912 күн бұрын
The 37s are low weight, cheap to run locos. Many of the classes struggling to find work are much heavier and can't go on many of the routes the 37s operate on.

It’s fairly similar to wagon life in America, particularly for punishing work like aggregates
@neilcrawford830315 күн бұрын
How is it sad? These wagons are 34+ years old, plus some are restricted to 45mph, such as the O&K wagons that once belonged to Yeoman. You are aware that VTG is supplying 203 new hopper wagons, built by Greenbrier in Poland, to Mendip Rail this year and into 2025.
@22pcirish15 күн бұрын
Max 45mph, they are a pain. Plus hundreds of new wagons including intermodal flats and big box types have been ordered in the last few years. Rail Freight is doing fine. We could have a lot more of they build the whole of HS2 as planned.
@neilcrawford830314 күн бұрын
@22pcirish I notice on RTT that Mendip aggregate traffic to Tolworth is timed for 45mph, yet from Brett's at Cliffe it's 60. Tolworth being a depot with hopper discharge facilities. 45mph between the quarries and London must be a trudge for the drivers, and a pain for the schedulers and signalling staff. I assume once they are totally withdrawn, the trains can be timed for 60mph?
