I'm in the mid-Atlantic area and my central air conditioners are 49 years old and function well. There has been no "maintenance" done, just kept the units clean and yard debris away from them. I did replace one relay and a contactor was corroded, so I replaced that ($10.59 and 20 min. work for me).

There is a trap it runs under the house down through the chase and back up at a lower point than the air handler. double trapping can cause drainage issues. And I personally like flex ducts very convenient easy to install, pre insulated, time saving. thank you .

(addendum)...and I wish that the 49 year old cases on my Carriers looked as good as the case on yours! Oh, and, if that's your dryer vent, lint escaping the filter can contribute to condenser coil clogging. Just a thought.
@wholeNwon12 жыл бұрын
My Carriers lasted 49 years and were actually still working when I replaced them. Some parts were getting very hard for me to find. Total cost of replacing both complete systems by a reputable company with 10 year parts and labor warranty, upgraded filters, etc. $7300.

Don't see dampers in your flex-ducts but maybe you wouldn't be able to get to them anyhow. Smart to have set the new diffuser to direct air away from that thermostat. How long did they pump down the system before charging? How deep was the vacuum and did it hold when the pump was isolated from the line set? Did they braze under N2? Did you educate yourself before hiring a contractor? Were you having repair or function problems with your old system?

@DJCalimovement Actually, I have the invoice, and I can't tell you an exact price either, LOL. We had the inside & outside units replaced, all of our ducts, vents & returns were replaced, and we have the extended warranty. The package price was $7,905. The warranty cost $550. So, the remaining $7,355 covered the units, ducts, other supplies and labor. I'm guessing the system cost was around $5,000, but that's just a guess. I hope this helps!
@AutistiVision13 жыл бұрын
@84randomdude Are you seeing the old unit in the vid? It's about to rust through. Maybe the compressor would last a bit longer, but not before the case it's in collapses.
@JamesPettinato11 жыл бұрын
A couple things I don't like about this unit, the air discharges horizontily out of the condenser, one side hits a wall, I would think the heat would get sucked into the air intake, negateing 25% of the unit. I would like to see a smoke test. The company uses cheaper to produce spine fins instead of standard aluminum fins,dirt gets in them and when you try to wash it out the fins close up.The last thing is the condenser has louvers covering it,preventing rain from washing most of the dirt out.

Your installer did a great job. I'm trying to get new ducts installed in a 1,500 sq ft ranch since my ducts are too small for the system. To replace flex return duct and 9 flex supply ducts to 7" I was quoted $3,000. I asked for returns in each bedroom, $300 each. How did you get that deal
@kevingavigan78832 жыл бұрын
I know I may be a bit late in commenting, but a couple things I noticed. First off, the old Weather King unit looks similar a Rheem or a Ruud. Also, the Trane units seem to have evolved, when Trane first started making their outside units with those "weather guards", all models had the louvered fan grille (both the ones *with* the "weather guards" and the ones *without* the "weather guards") apparently the only newer models that still have the louvered fan grilles are those *without* the the so-called "weather guards", maybe they did that to improve airflow or something. Moreover, I've never seen a Trane with a 2-blade fan up until watching this video. One thing is for certain, "It's hard to stop a Trane."
@AutistiVision2 жыл бұрын
Yes, Rheem, Ruud, Wheather King, all exactly the same with different name plates. And indeed, hard to stop a Trane. We actually sold this house and the air conditioner was still going strong!

Big flaw! The air handler and condensing unit are at practically the same height, but I noticed something. The lines arch above the units, and come back down. That unwanted lift in the lines will restrict refrigerant flow, and cause problems.
@billybassman2111 жыл бұрын
So how many filters do you have to replace? Did you get a UV light or an air cleaning system. My issue with all of those returns is the ducts are going to get dirty over time and will need to be cleaned. Its more maintenance. I would rather have a couple of returns and have the filters right at them to keep the return ducts clean. Nice setup never the less.

@brandonbomba882110 жыл бұрын
Looks like they did a clean job , I noticed they did not build a radius on your supply plenum for the best performance of your ductwork. Also why did they not run your drain out of the right side where it is coming out of the air handler, that could cause problems down the line . Its not good practice to run your drain across the air handler like they did, even if you do have a filter back. Hope you enjoy your new system.

So far, the only issue we've had was an evaporator coil that needed to be replaced 2 years after installation, but that was covered under warranty. Our power bills are much improved since we replaced the old Weather King, and the Trane seems to be able to keep up with the Florida heat :)
