I just passed 4 months on T yesterday. My voice is only just starting to break and drop a tiny bit (I had hoped it would be sooner, but I know everyone's transition is different). I am prepared for the body hair, I fear for the potential hair loss. So far I'm seeing lots of hair growth *everywhere* and no hair loss (yet). Since I'm older (46) and I was teetering on the brink of menopause anyway, I was already going through body odor changes. So far I haven't seen any increase in sweat and I haven't had any significant increase in acne (I have been pretty aggressive about keeping my face clean though). Overall, I'm pretty happy with the progression of my transition so far. :)

PSA: Make sure you get tested for clotting mutations like Factor V Leiden which increases the risk of getting a blood clot. Testosterone will increase your red cell count considerably. So if you have any clotting mutations it can increase the risk of getting a clot. Please consult a hematologist before starting testosterone if you have a family history with mutations. I began transitioning long after I endured menopause. Weird to get acne all over again, but it’s not nearly as bad as the first puberty. The voice changes took several months to come along. Because I’m blonde, my body hair is not very noticeable to others, but my mustache is slowly filling in. I just got my top surgery after almost 2 years on T. THAT’S what I really wanted. To my surprise, when my grapefruit-sized boobs were gone, I found I now have a hairy torso 🤣. Which got me and my surgeon laughing. 😆

another change that might be negative is vaginal dryness. T might cause the inside of your parts to dry out, making it harder for frontal sex without lube and also putting in tampons if you're still menstruating. I had a bit of trouble with this when I was still menstruating, and it's just something to be aware of if you're gonna have frontal sex, since dryness can lead to tearing and increased STD/STI risk.
@ornjtopaz5 жыл бұрын
If it's prone in your family you can have heart problems, Utis and diabetes. It also weakens your immune system so you just get colds faster and easier. If you get a cut it won't affect that healing process but there are tons of science that shows something is wrong if you dont heal normally. If you get a cut it won't affect that healing process. People get this wrong all the time that you get your hairline, how a bread will work for you, and how quickly you go grey/your hair loss from your mother's side so if you're concerned about any of that look at your uncles and grandfathers on that side of the family. Over all T is alittle scary at first, I've only on it nine months compared to ppl like Jamie..but if it is in your path and you're getting medically doing this process/take care of it's so worth it. I felt like a different person even after my 1st shot and I'm happier than I've been as a girl. Now that I'm fully recognized as a guy and I sound/look/feel like one to myself I only wish I had more info and did this before 20. Diabetes does run in my family; my grandfather had it, mother and I was super prone to it even before but just another thing I have to watch.

Anybody out there, who has similar experience like mine? T for almost 2 years now. literally the only change i experienced is my voice (only a little bit). i look exactely the same, so people mostly see me as female. testosterone levels are in the normal male range though. i was mentally prepared for all sort of changes, good or bad, but i wasn`t aware that "almost no change at all" was a possibility aswell.
@WhiteN0iz5 жыл бұрын
Almost 7 months on T for me! My voice has dropped a lot, but not quite enough to pass yet. Got chin whiskers and a pretty sad teen moustache. Body hair's coming in pretty thick, and HOLY BALLS am I sweaty, but actually? My body odour's improved dramatically since I started HRT. I used to get pretty bad armpit funk, and that's not an issue anymore. I do shower more often to deal with oilyness, and bizarrely enough I need lotion for skin dryness. Acne's bad but mostly on my back and chest. This biggest issue I've been dealing with is (TMI incoming...) vaginal dryness. OW, that shit chafes. But we're working on it! I don't regret it, because more than anything else, T has REALLY evened out my moods - more effectively than any antidepressant I've been on. Helps with anxiety, too!
@wh_ffry9182 Жыл бұрын
Hiii I’m not sure if you’ll ever see this, but I had questions about the vaginal dryness part of Testosterone if that’s ok with you :3. 1. How early did you begin to notice it? Considering you where 7 months on T when you posted this comment, I was wondering if it was an immediate side affect of T for you. 2. How much does it affect your day to day life? Is it more of a minor inconvenience or did it become something bigger and more disruptive. 3. What tactics did you use to combat the dryness? I know that dryness is a possibility when going on T, and I wasn’t sure if there was anyway to actually help treat it. 4. This one is kinda awkward, but do you know if down there is still self cleaning while on T? I’ve heard different things from different people, but I want to understand it from the point of someone who’s going/went through it. Vaginal dryness is one of the parts of going on T that I am fearful of, because I’m really not sure if it’s going to be something that causes everyday discomfort to me. This is also argument of HRT that people I know have used against me, so I just want to understand it a bit more. Thank you so much:)))

It's my boyfriend's third week (his second T injection) and we've notice a slight dark line and some smooth hair growing on each side of his face where there will be sideburns. His voice keeps changing since his second week began. He is so excited! Of course, I am checking his blood pressure often (he's never had problems with this) , and his glucose levels (he's diabetic -type 2 since 2016 ) are fine, and some lab tests results so his doctor can know if my boyfriend's body has a good response or not.

I'm glad you posted this video now because I get my T prescription in about a week, so while I've been super excited, I've also gotten a bit nervous. But now I see that it's normal and that I don't need to worry too much cuz all the pros will outweigh the cons.

I like the honesty in this. I'm almost 2 years on T, and I have to watch my BP (it goes too high sometimes, but I also already have a heart condition), my cholesterol is hella high even though my diet consists of greens and fruit for the most part. I'm hairy, too hairy...but waxing is an option. Body fat has increased, but so has muscle. I've gained some health issues, but I've also have a better connection with my body now that it's masculine. Like Jamie said, you can't choose what you get...you just get it. Just make sure that you adjust properly and take care of yourself when the changes hit.

My biggest change has been acne. I'm taking antibiotics for it now, but it's so painful and sore and gross. Make sure to wash your face twice a day, if you start getting spots more often, buy a cleanser. if it gets out of control, see your doctor/dermatologist.

Curious, after being on T, did anyone else find that colds and illnesses feel like they hit harder? I find anytime I get a cold now I’m super flat and can barely function, I used to just power through and just keep living my life. I know there are scientific studies backing that testosterone can make you weaker to certain things (I think it was to prove man flu is real)

It may just be me but I usually never get sick but have been sick atleast three times a month now. Is this like something that happens to other people or is it just me having bad luck lmao.

It's normal to get sick more often during puberty. Your body is so focused on changing that it slacks a little on everything else

Assassin's Creed Real life pranks yes I am a furry, but just because I like anthropomorphic (human-like) animals, I'm NOT at all about the sexual side that people focus on. We're not all about that, I more enjoy goofing around dressed up for charity, and drawing cool original characters similar in design to Zootopia or Robin Hood.

@VBArtPlace5 жыл бұрын
Most doctors will tell you the health risks associated with T, but they are all mostly just the exact same risks a guy of your age will face. So you basically just add the regular male health checks for heart, cholesterol and blood pressure, etc, to the health checks you already need to take for any female oriented organs you might still have, and the suggested ages for those checks. If you Google either health risks for men or health risks for ftm, you should find some blogs or medical sites mentioning it, but try not to get too swept up in "complications," which are rare and few and far between. Good luck!

I haven't had any bad side effects aside from my cholinergic urticaria.. also known as "heat allergy". It was hard to find info about it, as I thought it was hot flashes at first, but it was more serious than that, so I asked the FTM subreddit to see if someone was feeling the same thing. so when I heat up and proceed to sweat, my skin screams out. I get red bumps in my arms, my chest and back get really RED and itchy and it feels like I'm being stabbed with NEEDLES all over them. your body can heat up for a million reasons (being out in the sun, getting scared, anxious) so I have an episode at least twice a day, and this is after I've learned how to better control it: use layers of clothes so you can undress if necessary and alleviate yourself; wet parts of your body with cold water (this works best and is immediate relief). Sadly I've had to start living my outside life more during the dusk/night because of this, especially with our summers easily reaching 45 degrees celsius. Sorry for the wall of text, just wanted to get my experience out, that I found so hard to find info on. I do still feel very happy being on T, and it's been a year now.

I'm not even 3 weeks on T yet and my voice has already dropped a tiny bit and I've been waking up in a sweat every morning i guess just cuz im sweatier idk. But even the bad things, i actually like that they happen because it makes me feel like the right hormones are inside me. I'm definitely having some mood swings, but I was already expecting that because I have a mood disorder, and when i went through puberty the first time, it was really bad. But so far, I am overall happier, even if i havent really noticed any changes yet. I actually have noticed that i have facial hair, but its basically just peach fuzz. But if you look really close its like a full beard and mustache, its just really light and soft lol. I've ALWAYS wanted a mustache, i used to talk about it when i was a little kid so im excited :D

Lol! I'm pre-T and have a lot of long, dark toe hair! I was surprised when the endocrinologist didn't find high levels of testosterone in my body as some kind of hormonal disorder. I'm weird I guess. At least unwanted hair can be removed even though it's a pain.

I know this is an ignorant question... But will u have to take T for the rest of your life? Also...I know American trans celeb Jazz Jennings had estrogen implant... Is there a Time version of the implant? Love, love, love watching u and Shaba....I always look forward to watch of your new videos. Hope you're having a great weekend!!! 🤩🤩🤩
@lukassimontm35465 жыл бұрын
If you had your ovaries removed, you have to take testosterone for the rest of your life. Without either estrogene or testosterone you would experience health problems like loss of bone density (and therefore increased risk of breaking them), depression and many more. If one keeps the ovaries, it would be possible to stop T. Some changes would mostly stay the same like the voice. Others would change like less facial and body hair, fat redestribution. There will be implants for guys (or they already exist as by now, not sure how far along they are in the process). I don't consider using them as you would have to have three cuts every six month so over the years it becomes quite some scarring and all in the same area. Plus you can't really tell how your body copes with implants. I am fine with testo gel.

i'm pret t y sure that unless you have the exact same amount of hair as a cis man, you'll just grow a little more body hair so that you have around the same amount as if you were cis. but if you had the same amount, you probably had more T in your system already and so it may make you hairier than average, which isnt necessarily a bad thing ofc. i've been told by many people i have more body hair than they've seen a cis guy with, but i'm starting T in a little less than two days, so i'll make sure to edit this eventually if i'm wrong

Important- the reference to cancer relates to not having a hysterectomy while on T. Not proven. One thing not mentioned is blood clots-that is more likely with injectable where you are shooting once a week or once every two weeks vs. gels (gels don't give you the changes you need early on though). If you are going to transition, responsible docs will make sure you stop smoking, are not overweight and don't have a drinking or drug habit.

Jamie, could you also make a video about the predominance of pelvic pain in trans men? I'm not even a year on T yet and I am having persistent cramping due to T, as well as painful ovulation. It's worse after having sex. This happens to a lot of transmen (something like 1 in 5 at least) and transmen are often reluctant to talk about it.
