I have six niblings in total, 4 to one sibling and 2 to the other. The one with 4 encourage self-expression and won't conform to gender norms. The other one has very different aesthetics for their son and their daughter. Sure, my niece is 4 and love girly stuff. But my sibling definitely helped create the difference between them.

I'm a cis woman with short hair. One time after an interview (I was wearing a suit) I went to a store and bought a book. The person behind the counter served me and said "here you go sir, enjoy your day" I said thanks and left and kind of stood outside bewildered for a moment. Not because I was confused how they thought I was a guy or offended. But because I WASN'T offended. I'd never had a moment like this before and completely expected myself to feel awkward or want immediately correct them. But no. I didn't feel offended or attacked. My only thought was "I need to buy a top hat and a monocle to see if I can level up to gentleman." Now it bewilders me when someone who is cis feels the need to guard their gender with an iron fist and feel the need to validate their gender with these ridiculous and pointless expectations of themselves (and others). Be you, do you. You will be fine

I've had this happen most of my life, didn't matter if I had long hair (damn long haired hippy!) or short (thank you, sir). It never bothered me. Part of the issue for others misgendering me basically comes down to the fact I don't fit gender norms (for those of certain programming)for females; I'm tallish, have wide shoulders, not well endowed in the chest, usually dress in pants and t-shirts . I doubt it will ever bother me being mistaken for a guy. Who people perceive me as, doesn't change who I am.

This is so brilliant - thanks Jamie! I grew up in the 80s, where there was a real effort to either de-gender or gender-swap products in advertising. I think ideas of gendering products has gotten a hell of a lot worse over the last 20 years. Thank you for reminding me why I love my trans and NB siblings. As a cis-woman, it's given me the confidence to know that there are a multitude of ways to express gender, way beyond what the mainstream dictates as "masculine" or "feminine". It's core to my feminism, and just part of being a human. You are a star - so looking forward to hearing your book!!!

Samesies!!! I’ve been looking around in wonder at how far we’ve regressed from where we were headed in even the not-always-great 80s. It’s wild to miss that time, but I do. It feels like we all kind of dressed gender-neutral at least at some point and it was considered cool. The word back then was, “androgynous” and I don’t remember anyone slamming it for hurting women. Or men, for that matter. But I did have a good friend who was gay at a neighboring school and she only felt comfortable completely in her own skin at my women’s college, so I’m not here to lionize the 80s, just the direction it felt that we were heading back then and how this right now is NOT it :-/

The whole gendering clothes thing is interesting in general, considering that men used to wear skirts, dresses, colorful tights, high heels and even wigs and make-up - all things that are now considered decidedly "feminine". And ironically all a long time ago, the times where men now cry about how much more "manly" men were back then (which is also not necessarily true and god knows what criteria they go by). Honestly this whole gendering clothes etc. thing is just so silly in general because, once again, what criterias are you gonna go off of anyway? (And let’s be real - I would totally have shipped them.) But my Barbies all were dating the bionic woman, not Ken. I’m currently in my 50s, female-ish (AFAB), straight-ish, and aro/ace. 10:43 Something that always mystified me. In school I usually wear deodorant and one day, I accidentally put on my mum's perfume cologne and I must say, I was teased about it by nearby everyone. Alright, so my mum's cologne had a sweeter smell to it, but it still makes me curious to how anyone knew the difference, 17 years later like... I often wonder about this
@DrachenGothik666

Certain types of scents are considered 'feminine" & your peers were going by that. Chances are, the cologne smelled sweet or floral, both considered "womanly" smells. "Manly" smells are usually woodsy, musky, resiny, & lower in tone than women's scents in the perfume world. I've always preferred the so-called "men's" scents.

Yes the Princess is called Zelda!! The main character is called link. Though I can see the confusion due to the similar features. Especially due to the art style of the Wind Waker/ Phantom Hourglass / Spirit Tracks - the style used in the toys. If you look at the characters in the more recent Breath of The Wild or Tears of the Kingdom. Or even Ocorina of Time or Twilight Princess they look really different. Particularly Twilight Princess because she has brown hair there

Since the Zelda toys are labeled in Spanish, I would guess that the prices are quoted in pesos rather than dollars; the symbol is usually the same.

I had the same thought. I "see" sounds as colours & "hear" colours & movement in things with no audio. It doesn't usually sound like what the items moving would sound like in real life, either. I've never encountered anyone else who "hears" movement. Lots of folks who "see" sounds & "hear" colours, though.

350 for a plushy may sound expensive (because it is) but It probably is in brl, since it is in Portuguese and it uses the "$" sign, thats about 72 usd, a still absurdly high price but retro game stores tend to do this type of bs
