I am a pediatric nurse and age regression can happen for kids in trauma situations, ex a toddler who breaks their leg might "forget" they are potty trained and need a diaper for the length of their stay, a teenage boy badly sick with the flu will want to be held by his mother and so on. It's because I was sexually repressed after that age in institutions due to having autism spectrum disorder. I first started noticing boys and men and thinking about sex at 13-14 and I was free of shame. Then when i got to an age where people were expected to have sex, i was told that people like me shouldn't do it and were not sexual and i was treated abusively when i showed an interest in men, so it paused the development of my sexuality past that point and i became ashamed of being a woman and not a girl. I often feel like my adult body is somehow wrong and i desire to look like a young girl. A lot of the time it comes from trauma. These men have trauma. It's not something people can help or should be shamed for, but they should at least keep it private and understand where it comes from. No one i know knows I feel this way apart from my husband.

Yes same, for me it had to do with trauma though. I actually "aged" internally over time when I was in therapy and treated my trauma. I felt 17 for a long time because most of my trauma happened around that time and I got really stuck in the past cause my trauma was constantly present in my mind. Also i didn't have a lot of the typical teenager experiences when I was an actual teenager cause I was going through so much shit at the time. I had to catch up later I guess, at least that's how it felt. Now I'm 27 and I feel still a bit younger but like an adult. I'm also only in my second year of uni because the trauma really affected my life path so I think that's also why I feel younger. I'm around 20 year olds at uni all day lol and am not at the place in life yet that my friends of the Same age are (working, some married etc). I had so much maturing to do as I just didn't get the chance to grow up when you are supposed to grow up, but running around intentionally staying stuck at that age is obviously not the right way to go as you said.

The way we came to this conclusion is that researchers would go into prisons or mental hospitals and ask the perps what caused them to have these feelings and do these things. And basically the researchers (mostly grad students) would take the word of these known liars (who also have severe psychopathy). Plus when psychopaths can gain your sympathy, as though they’re the hurt ones, then they have a lot of leverage and power over you. Anyway, do you trust the word of these people who prey upon children? I don’t. Jon Uhler (who has worked with these offenders for a long time) says that the actual victims are not in the prison section for sx offenders. The actual victims are in the section for drug addicts and drug offenders. And they’re also the ones who take out the sx offenders in prison. They are (for the most part) not preying upon children.

It's not about experiencing trauma at the current moment most of the time, but rather being reminded of something from your childhood that unlocks a trauma memory in your brain. This would be involuntary age regression and will be a type of "dissosiation". It's the brain trying to protect you in a way. And of course it's hard to understand. Because why the brain does this exactly isn't really known. Voluntary age regression on the other hand is a way to fix your trauma and fix that part of you that is still stuck in that part of your memory where you were most likely ab"sed, n_glected or, r worded. It's trying to remind yourself of the good things that you might not have been able to enjoy as a child, but are now. On the other hand there are people who "age play". That and age regression are 2 very different things...

Age regression in adults is a very real thing, but it's not like that. My mother suffers from age regression when in serious grief. When her abusive mother passed away, she was age regressing for months after the incident. But it's not like "goo goo I'm a baby", she is still clearly a grown woman, it's just that she kept regressing into her traumatic childhood. As if the confident woman she is was temporarily gone, and replaced with this insecure and neglected child. It was this "cute and quirky" little play, it was seriously hard and painful to watch. She is better now.

I volunteered at a children’s hospital specializing in cancer for a few months in high school. I made friends with a young women who had been through years of aggressive treatment and pain. I'm 18 now and age regression is something i do involuntary and only in certain situations, around certain people. Paired with autism (which also affects the way you behave on it's own) I'm often described as childish. Do I get along with much younger family members or my friend's siblings? Yeah because especially due to autism my brain just adapts differently and I still have this childlike part of my brain fully active. Does it make me incapable of rational behaviour? Absolutely not. I hate that this whole "transage" thing has gotten so big because it makes people who use legitimate techniques like age regression therapy look like a bunch of creeps. Age regression therapy is a therapeutic technique where the patient regresses to a younger mindset (they don't actually think they're 4) for a short period of time to help cope and process through trauma (they don't live there whole day in diapers and with pacifiers). And they absolutely do not involve actual freaking children in this practice, that is so disgusting. I wish these freaks would just admit this is some messed up kink of theirs and stop making people who use a valid therapeutic technique to deal with trauma look like predators. I wish when we pointed out how gross and repulsive these "transage" creeps are we could also lift up those who use age regression in a clinical setting to cope with mental health issues cause sometimes we lump these people into the same category and they could not be any further from each other.

I could definitely see the benefits of placing yourself in your younger selfs psyche to help analyse trauma that you weren't able to at that age... BUT I think the most important part of that is having a trained therapist guide you through it. This feels like these people have childhood trauma that has stunted their mental growth. My dad has told me, and so many of my mom's friends have told me that you mentally feel younger at heart, but you watch your body age. That's exactly right. I've been 45 for a bit over 13 days. Besides aches, pains & some health issues though? Most of the time I think I'm mentally more akin to a teenager than someone my age. I goof around, wrestle with my son, build model airplanes, put snow down the back of my wife's shirt, watch entertaining KZbin videos, play the occasional game & joke about practically everything. That having been said everything has a TPO. Sometimes you have to "act more like an adult." I think that's normal. It's when you have to "act more like a teen" to fit the TPO that you've truly grown old.

@@Ray-fk7ly Thanks for the belated birthday wishes, Ray! When I turned 21 I had a 1 year old in the house so you're pretty close to where I was. Some people do stay young at heart while others don't. I was assumed as an adult from the age of 14 onward, paying a quarter of the household bills & with having very immature/selfish parents I had to grow up REAL quick. It wasn't an easy childhood. Who knows, maybe it was entirely because I missed out on my adolescent years though that I retained the spontaneity of someone that age? My parents didn't change after I got older either. I was orphaned at 41; My mother wouldn't stay off the drugs & my father wouldn't comply with a diabetic diet. I tried to intervene I don't know how many times & ways but all it taught me was that you can't save someone from themselves OR that doesn't want to be saved. The real victims of their actions were my younger sister, born 13 years to the day after me & my two children.

This is fucked because age regression is actually a symptom of some mental illnesses and PTSD. I have BPD and Asperger's and when I go into "age regression" it's in behavior, thoughts, and emotions I have mental breakdowns and become emotionally unstable, I start screaming, crying, and breaking shit, I become extremely hostile and hurtful and have zero emotional maturity I literally can't take care of myself because I get so scared and anxious of the leaving the house by myself it's debilitating and embarrassing for me and my loved ones. Sometimes I just rock back and fourth talking to myself or singing to myself when I'm stressed it's a coping mechanism for trauma and intense stress it's not cute or a fetish.

I will say that my ex would sometimes regress and ask me to take care of her, and we never once made it a sexual thing. It wasn't 24/7, it wasn't a kink or fetish, she was just coping during really rough patches. She was never "transage", she acknowledged that it was a trauma response, and just wanted me to be there for her. The people who try to live like this 24/7 are unhealthy and really need professional help.
