Tbh, I have a little insight and also a little's insight. Ofc it is a coping mechanism, in my case it helps me with my depression and with actually being a functional adult, as contradicting as it sounds, cause without my teddybear in my backpack I would not be able to go out to work. But, for intrinsic ab's, there allways is a sexual component. Freuds theorie of infantile sexuality is one way of explaining this. This component is there, but, and that is true in my case, but generally more true for women, it can be very small. So much so, that it is not even a part of the behaviour, for many AB's.

i think there's two main versions of this community (and probably a number of other communities): there's the therapeutic version that has to do solely with coping and/or improving/maintaining one's mental health (i think this is called "age regression"), and there's the sexual version, which is done in the context of a sexual relationship between two (or more) people (called "age play"). and some ppl maybe do a mix of both. this video included both types of participants.
