I did something wrong I can get back into my save but nothing is mine. It let me switch arks but when I tried to return lost everything 2 years of progress gone. Ps5 is no bueno.

@@SongbirdGaming Nah It makes you lose your character each time. So no matter what in PS5 you lose the levels. Wierd thing is you can see all the other players bodies.

great! thanks. the only video that is actually explaining anything! I hope it will work in my case, I've never had problems in ase but heard in asa a lot of people have issues with transfer. If I go to another map and then want to go back to the one I came from, do I have to just use the same way explained here? I made sure to have atribe etc. to forcejoin if something happens. So just obelisk, upload, main menu and then create and download survivor? Im on console.

Thanks for the kind comment! I try my best! If you are wanting to transfer the *same* character to another map, then don't create. Just obelisk, upload, main menu, launch new SP map, when you get to the character creation screen, look for the "download" option and do that instead of creating one. If that map already has a different character then just load in, upload *that* character at an ob too if you want to save it (make sure to create a tribe first!) and follow the steps here. If you don't want to save that character, then just off the character via implant or something like what I did, and then instead of respawning, hit "create new character" and then once again when you are at the character creation screen, look for the "download" option. This is how it's supposed to work, and it works for most people. Not having a console I can't test it myself, so I don't know if the ppl who have been having issues, idk if it's a bug or if it's user error.

How to take the character back to previous map?

@@NastY____ same way. Upload at an obelisk, switch maps back to original one, download character instead of making a new one. It's supposed to remember tribe affiliation if it's the same character who was on that map before, but that doesn't always work so you might have to do the force join tribe thing as shown.

What's the difference between this and "takeallstructures" and "takealldinos" commands?

@@user-rl5ny5pn7f I went over those commands in the video? But the problem is they don't usually get everything. It's much more effective and simpler to do "forcejointribe", but you have to have made a tribe first. Forcejointribe will take all structures and all dinos even in other parts of the map.

Cool guide. Very helpful. Unfortunately, my SP character was destroyed. No download options at all. I was using a macro to fire my crossbow, got killed from behind, didn't turn off the macro and accidentally respawned a new survivor in a panic to get my dino rescued and lost everything. The only place I could see my previous character was in the tribe list if I forcejointribe.

Oh no! That really sucks! Yeah, if you "create new character" after dying, it does overwrite your previous one. I've done it before too, major facepalm moment. If you have a back up save stored separately somewhere, you could potentially dig through the files and find the character saved in there and import it, but that gets pretty technical and I don't know if you want to go to the trouble of that. Personally I would probably just use admin commands to give myself enough XP to get the new character up to the same level as the the old character was, forcejoin the old tribe, and go from there.

@@SongbirdGaming It definitely was a facepalm moment. I wasn't backing up my saves like I was with ASE. I ended up making a tribe for that new character because the game wouldn't allow me to take over the old tribe. Then I used the cheats to claim everything and get back to where I was. I learned my lesson and have started backing up my saves every time I exit the game again.

@@rebuiltHK47 If you didn't set up a tribe for your original character, that could be why the game wouldn't let you take over the tribe. That's a problem a lot of times, people playing in single player, the idea of making a tribe doesn't even cross their mind, but then if something happens, there's no tribe for them to take over. That's actually what happened here in my second collaboration with Mr.Meola, I was supposed to livestream starting work on the build, had a friend with me and the stream set up and everything, but then we found out that we couldn't just force join his tribe because he hadn't made one. And with the time zone difference, him being in Australia, it was the wee hours of the morning for him… So we had to find creative ways to fill the time waiting for him to answer my messages lol. That ended up being my most viewed stream ever in the history of my channel though. Our plans were FOILED... but we made the best of it! kzbin.infoZwgAdRmaneA?feature=share

Hi there, love the video. I had a question tho. I have a different character on every map, and I have never beaten the bosses. I want to go back on the Island and ascend to the other maps normally. When I ascend, Will my save files be overwritten on my SE and Aberration world, or can I do what you showed in the video? Im on PS5 btw.

Hi, and thanks! Great question. When you ascend after beating the Overseer (or the other story map bosses) you go through the awesome cutscene, and then it brings you to a respawn screen. As if you died. It doesn't automatically bring you to the next map. Your character is automatically uploaded, so if you wanted to go to another map it would be very easy to do so, but you can also just pick a bed back on the island and respawn there. If you want to get all of the tek engram unlocks and extra levels on the same character though, you may want to think about choosing one character to do all the boss fights. If you don't want to overwrite the other characters then what you would do is (make sure to set up a tribe of course) take the character that's currently on that map to an obelisk and upload the character, and just leave it uploaded. You can have several characters uploaded at the same time, no problems. And then you can move your boss fighting character to that map without overwriting the other one. Of course this character will not be in the same tribe as the other one, which is why I said it's important to set up a tribe first (actually open the tribes tab and click create tribe), because if you've done that then the transferred character can just walk up to your old base and do "cheat forcejointribe" so that they can use the dinos and structures that your other character has on that map.

Also here's a tip for boss fights since you haven't done any before. There's a recurring bug that has happened from time to time in this game ever since the very beginning, to the point that for people who played for a long time, anticipating/protecting against this bug has become a tradition. As soon as you beat the boss fight and you have the triumphant music you get about a 30 second countdown before the ascension cut scene will start. During that time run up to one of your surviving dinos and dump your inventory into its inventory. Everything. Take off all your armor, everything in your hotbar, all of it. Ascend naked. It's tradition. 😆 Your dinos will be teleported out of the arena, back to where they started from, so for the overseer they will be outside the door to the tek cave, for the manticore they will be at whatever obelisk you used, for Rockwell they will be at the terminal for that boss fight. Your inventory is a lot safer in your creature, Because of this recurring bug where people lose all their stuff when they ascend. Doesn't always happen, in fact it's fairly rare these days, but just to be safe it's a good idea to make a habit/ritual of this.

can you have the same character on different servers? or can you only move it from one to another and not keep one on the former

@@CircumlunarFeasibility if the system works as it should, the character file is actually moved, not duplicated. Occasionally you hear about glitches where a character was duped, but unless you actually go dig in the save files and copy the character save and move a copy over, it's not something you can do easily or reliably. Before moving a character though, make sure that both servers have character uploads and downloads allowed. If the servers are in different clusters, then it isn't possible to move between them unless the servers you are moving from/to are temporarily unclustered. On clustered servers, you can transfer between maps without needing to take things out of your inventory, you transfer from map to map quickly and easily with your inventory intact. But, you can't transfer anything out of the cluster and back to single player or to another cluster. It's part of the nature of how clusters work.

@peg-hauk-warrior1780 I have not tried transferring a character off someone else's non dedi server, but I think it should be possible to move the character. You would have to transfer off while your friend is hosting, but then the character data should be in your local game files on your PS5, so you would then be able to use that character in single player.

sorry cannot get this to work, followed your instructions to the letter, always the same result download survivor to map get black screen then back to create survivor and no longer have my survivor available for download, I then copy over a backup save for the same cycle to repeat. Just for a bit of background this happens if I try to transfer to Scorched Earth already have a save game there (kill off survivor first) or to The Centre no saved game, my game is totally up to date. Also I played Ark Evolved for 8000+ hours SP mode, have always known how to transfer my SP character to different maps, done it hundreds of times on all maps including modded, the only option I see for Ark Ascended is to play each map separately which is crap as this isn't how you should play the game.

I know there is a bug on Xbox with SP saves, if you are on Xbox it could be related to that. If you are on Steam PC, I'd validate files, or possibly pull save backups, and then uninstall and reinstall the game. Because that sounds like some kind of major bug or corrupted file. It's crashing when you try to download a character. Are you using any mods that affect your character? Hair mods, body model mods, maybe even anything effecting stats? If so, I'd uninstall them, shut down the game, then launch it again, go to the mods area and re-download them.

@@SongbirdGaming My game isn't crashing, after selecting to download my character to the map and choosing where to spawn the screen goes momentarily black and then I'm back at the create character screen with no character available to download, I noticed when you create a new character on a new map the screen goes white before proceeding, that's only why I mention the black screen. I've also become aware how widespread this problem is just from the huge amount of hits I get when searching it online with no one providing a solution. One thing even though your video is for single player are you still on your server or just locally on your PC?

Hello! I have some question’s. Do you automatically get a tribe on single player? I’m asking bc I uploaded & transferred to Scorched and transferred back to the island bc I was uninstalling a cryo mod and I had to uncryo some Dino’s before uninstalling but before I did any of that I had the problem where I had to type in the command taketribe 0 to get my tribe back but I never made a tribe on the island.. It did the same thing when I went back scorched had to type the command again. I’ve been trying to look up a video to see how I can prevent from having to use the command every time I transfer but Apparently I’ve had a tribe this whole time? Even with the tribe I still have to reclaim everything every time I transfer it seems like.. why? (Sorry for this huge paragraph.)

@@JTEdits69 no. You don't automatically get a tribe. That's why in this video I say, "make a tribe". Because you have to actually open the tribe tab and make a tribe, to later be able to use the "forcejointribe" command. I don't know if "taketribe" works in ASA or not, I use "forcejointribe". But later in the video I explain what to do, if you didn't do that, and need to get your stuff back the more complicated way.

the command taketribe 0 works on ASA I’ve done it twice so far! After watching your video tho I got on Ark to make a tribe and it said I already had one. Even gives me the option to leave the tribe. That’s why I asked if you get one automatically bc I never made a tribe on scorched or the island and all I had to do was type in that command to get all my stuff back. Didn’t need a mod or go up to every single dino and claim it

@JTEdits69 All it takes to make a tribe is to open the tribes tab once and hit enter, so it's very possible that you did it by accident one time when you were trying to get to the engrams tab or something

Here's a tip, you can always look at the transcript of a video and find the spot you are looking for that way.
