I love learning more about vision. It’s always on my mind as I try and lead myself and my team; the question I’m asking myself is how can I better communicate the vision to the team? This episode helps answer that question. It reminded me of something I read in Steven Covey’s Seven Habits of Highly Effective People. He purports one habit worth developing is starting with the end in mind. This habit is all about seeing vision. It’s the benchmark where you want to get to. I believe it’s one of the most difficult and challenging responsibilities as a leader (for me anyway!) For me, to have vision, I have to see that picture clearly. Picture it so that it’s tangible enough. The more clearly I see it, the more tangible it becomes and more simple it is to communicate. Like drawing out on a piece of paper. This allows followers to easily grab onto it and see if for themselves. To help me see vision I have to constantly ask myself what is the big picture; think big picture value. I think vision takes great perspective. To have vision takes disciplined and intentional reflection. Vision also might more easily be communicated and understood through metaphors.

I listed to this episode a few times and as I began 2023 I came back to listen to it once again! It’s an amazing lesson to start strong in 2023 and keep the vision front and relevant for each and every person on the team! I just love your example on re-establishing credibility with the teammate who asked you the question about the possible disconnect to the vision. Your approach with humility and interest in that person made a huge difference. I wish this for all the leaders in the world, to be open to hearing their teams and repeating the vision, realigning the person, re-establishing the connection. Wow! Wow! Wow!
