Transform a VANITY into NIGHTSTANDS | EXTREME Furniture Makeover

In this video, I got to do a little demolition to my furniture! I started out with an antique vanity and then separated the sides to create 2 nightstands. Nightstands are much more sought after pieces of furniture than makeup vanities so I think these will sell a lot faster than a vanity might. This was one of the most extreme makeovers I have done and I really had a lot of fun working through all of the repairs that I had to do on my own! I hope you enjoyed this video and it gives you the push to try something a bit more difficult than just a normal furniture flip! Thanks for watching!

Like your childhood tables and chairs, your flipping the old waterfall design vanity brought back memories of my childhood. My sister and I had the complete bedroom set with the vanity, head and footboards, and nigh stands. You did a beautiful job flipping it Lauren,

Fantastic job. I just finished my 77th set of nightstands from desks and vanities! Each one is so much fun and I try to do a different "spin" on each set. A helpful hint.. when clamping veneers down put a piece of wood on top of the glued area for pressure to be evenly distributed. Some veneers are thinner and that will prevent any clamp marks. Love everyone and everything on this channel. Thanks for taking us on your journeys.

Being a child of the 50's I was heart broken when you said you were breaking them apart. That old waterfall design is so classic and they were in mint looking condition. The outer layer of skin is very fragile. I must admit I admire your skills and the finished look was nice. I'm not a fan of painting beautiful vintage wood in my opinion it destroys the character of the piece. For a young person you're very talented.

When using wood glue, after spreading evenly with your finger or another tool, you do actually want your wood glue to squeeze out after either clamping or nailing. This will ensure all surfaces are adhering properly. You simply wipe away the squeeze-out. Wood glue isn't something you use sparingly. Just a hint for those that might do this on their own.

You asked what we'd done and you'll be surprised to know I did this very same thing in 1976! It belonged to my husband's Grandmother...no room for the big piece & in need of nightstands. Painted them & matching dresser blue & loved the result. Yup, ahead of the curve 😄 and all my friends were impressed even w/o bondo! Now I'm 72 & just starting over by down-sizing to a new-to-me condo & invested in the new products to re-furnish it, bc what I have is too large! (gel stain will spiff up the mission style pieces for fb Marketplace!:)

I have turned the wood from a chair into a really cool bread board. That wood was so hard pressed though so I'm probably not going to try that again. Lol. You night stands turned out great. My great-grandmother had a vanity very similar to this when I was little. It was cool to see the transformation.

To rebuild the legs with bondo, instead of using some tape to form your edges, use wood craft sticks to form the 'fence' to pour the Bondo into. tape the sticks into place. It will allow you to pour more material in place, less layers.

I looked four months for small nightstands. Small nightstands are hard to find! Lots of people live in apartments and you might get a little more for those than you might think. I know I ended up paying $220 for nightstands and spent another hundred dollars on paint, knobs, and repairs. Just a thought. Also when I see you on your knees working I want to say “get a set of knee pads!” Pet those knees and take care of them while you can. That way you’ll be able to work longer and enjoy it more.
