People are still complaining about 3ds Max for not having a lot of features, but in reality, they suck and don't know how to use the software probarly, this video is a great example, thank you.

If you knew about Acquire... you're officially a PRO
@OfirGardy6 ай бұрын
Knew about it. Acquire "Relative" also has its merits. if you need a UVW on a transformed scattered objects you want to have the same/relative mapping. Another great use of the Absolute mode is for example if you're building a puzzle game. and you want each part of the puzzle (when you initially have them completed and ordered) to get the full-image from another object. You apply and assign it "Absolute" and then you're free to scramble the parts. . Great tut/quickTip what so ever.

Like yourself, I've been using 3ds max since the early versions (3d Studio Max 2.5)...and I remember this Acquire button being there since forever and part of my daily workflow...I never thought it was so little known
@Mranshumansinghr6 ай бұрын
I did use this in the past. Maybe in the early 2000's but it was mostly for Shop fronts with similar proportions. This is your genius approach that you used it like this. Maybe Autodesk should send you a thankyou letter for making it usable years later.

I pretty much use it daily to transfer UVs from already mapped objects to newly created ones. But it's fascinating how you found completely new uses for it that I wouldn't have ever thought of :D I guess it's just one of those things that seem obvious if you know about it but many people obviously don't.

Thank you!! more proof that this channel is must watch. I always learn (acquire) something from you..and I've been using max for several thousand years. Until 5 minutes ago when I started watching this video, I would have used the more complicated projection modifier which I now realize is less efficient and slower than this simple trick...Keep it up!

No one knew existed? LOL I've been using Acquire in the UVW Map modifier for many years!

Actually i use similar feature in blender called "project from view" in unwraping and even use texture painting clone tool to match the two projected maps that way you can perfectly apply textures, even cool that you can rotate your shoe and paint only certain parts of the mesh.

What the hell, this feature is awesome 😂 Either there were no good tutorials on 3DS Max before yours, or this software is not well taught to its users... Definitely going to abuse this Acquire button for mid-poly props.
@evilone106 ай бұрын
Indeed very efficient for a quick and dirty way, but let's be honest with the tools that are available nowadays, there are better way to do it with proper PBR workflow. But as long your model is not a hero assets it defenitly does the trick !

How i never wondered what that button does in 18 years is beyond me. I need to click random buttons that i haven't yet to figure out what they do more often.

we use all the time at my company for very specific. We do large scale Terrain viiz and we cut up like 30 tiles per proj. And we use acquire because uv projections need to butt up edge to edge.

I don’t think it’s people’s fault, I think it’s autodesk marketing fault they don’t promote this features. For a few years I used blender to compensate for the lack of knoledge I had in 3ds max, because I couldn’t find what I needed. In blender you can find literally anything. So, in my opinion, it’s autodesks’s fault and the 3ds max community doesn’t share knowledge. The majority of PROs keep this knowledge for themselves. Blender community is awsome. Renderram, arrimus and maybe a few others are awsome. Thanks!
