I am buying the figure for sure because I want to support the movement to keep getting the pretenders, and the engineering is really well done here. But man, the soft plastic really concerns me.

@@UnfaithfulServant97 Maybe Nonnef will get us some upgrade kits. Good price on his stuff. The only drawback is that the pegs tend to be a little thick so they need some sanding/filing down before they fit in ports.

@@UnfaithfulServant97 Yeah, some upgrade parts will likely do the figure some good. The weapons will be the easiest fix, but just kind of unfortunate we will have to rip off the soft parts on the legs to swap them out since they are pinned in from the look of it. The biggest concern I have about the soft plastic, is how it is going to react to the hard plastic though. With the way plastics have been in the line, feels like it could potentially cause some melting to happen.

So, the future of hasbro is raising prices and cut costs all over. Nice. Quality is down , and prices rise. and i even see so many "fans" excuses defending hasbro bullshit. Damn, you guys are so blind..... I was wondering if yes or not wanting him..... but thank you, now i know i wont waste money. And those "rubber" guns are awesome to bend by themselves. I was wondering if i would buy it, because the prices are getting unsupported, and i was liking the robot visual and if i pay that much, it better be GREAT Quaility . Its not. So i wont waste money on it. I am not gonna pay for rubber feel and cheap plastic. This legacy collection is doing everything to keep me away. There has been just too much bullshit going on, and "fans" keep quiet about it. The more quiet, the more hasbro will rip us off. ALSO ALSO, the yellowing issue not sorted yet. And i can almost see this Skullgrin getting yellow in 2 months. Though, i dont know if its your video quality, but I think i am seeing yellowing on your copy already

With the increase in use of soft plastic at one point the toys hasbro makes are gonna have the hardness of a rubber duck, I understand the safety reasons for certain parts but lately they abuse in its use, even the freaking movie masterpiece use it like the Bumblebee movie Optimus or a part of the main body of Megatron, and those are supposed to be directed at collectors, no children.

The only way I see them bringing back the “pretender shell” gimmick without it being, well… a brick, would be to separate the shell into armor pieces that peg into 5mm ports (Helmet, Shoulder pads, etc) and maybe the body a splittable piece that still allows for articulation and waste swivel But I feel that it would get backlash for it being so much and you could lose the pieces easily maybe they could put the helmet and such into the torso piece somehow but that’s the only way I can think of

I was kinda low key horrified by the rubber legs on the (Transformers Prime Ratchet repaint) First Aid from the old Protectobots (non combining) gift set. so seeing that plastic that rubbery back again isn't ideal as it's been known to tear.

@@chefatron I wonder if it's a drop test thing - they tried it with the normal harder nylon they use for connecting parts and ABS for the guns and both broke when dropped. So a bit LIke I suggested with the reason they used a softer plastic on Cybertron Metroplex's ankles. I may just go make a pest of myself to someone who makes parts and get them to recast the weapons in resin for me.

@@90lancaster Whoa... I didn't even realize Metroplex had some of the soft plastic too. Mostly because I kind of just set him up for display first and foremost(and have no room to really transform him atm), but yikes! That's kind of crazy to me. Hopefully this doesn't become the norm.

@@optimusraven0 It's not as soft as this it is just some sort of Nylon with a little flex in it - not insanely bendy like Skullgrin's guns. To be honest maybe if the Ark's side panels had been a bit flexible they'd have been less likely to go flying off every time you try to transform it. I'm always more worried about discolouration more than how it "feels" Clearly the guns on this Skullgrin are TO SOFT though.

@@90lancaster I really do find this whole ordeal so baffling. I understand that they have to utilize the molds in a way that meets the budget quota, but the usage of soft plastic here is just excessive. I would say the horns would fit as a "safety hazard", but then I think about the upcoming Armada Starscream. His sword looks waaaay more dangerous than the horns on Skullgrin. Which makes me believe that Starscream is going to have a good ammount of this plastic, in his wings at the very least. I don't think that this is going to be the norm per se, but I really hate the idea that they are going to be using this kind of plastic in all the wrong ways. Of course I am no toy designer, or even necessarily understand how softer plastic is that much safer, but I cannot help but thing that sharp soft plastic is not mitigating enough to justify this hah hah. Though, I guess it prevents people from puncturing themselves, but at that point may as well just make the tips more rounded.

I still really want this figure, but the soft gummy pliable bits are a let down but I still want him lol. I agree with the 9/10 it's a beautiful figure Skullgrin and Bludgeon were my favorites. Great review!

Soft plastic for such details is stupid, if it's used to prevent injuries. Really. Kids can hurt themselves and others with anything, and they will too. Now on the other hand, if they use soft plastic to prevent things from BREAKING, I can totally see that logic...but I don't like it. However, I still think it's because "better use soft plastic so stupid kids won't hurt themselves or others and stupid parents would sue the hell out of us". Many parents are just neglectful and ignorant.

looks fantastic! the perfect blend between shell and inner robot. gummy plastic is horrible.and it doesn´t even roll!! the hollowness of figures is annoyning but this is again next level. absolute shame they cheap out on everything these days. the good days of quality products are long gone. the only thing they don´t cheap out is the price. if this trend goes on i´m actually considering stopping collecting transformers. i really don´t wanna support this mentality anymore.

It would have been great if the skull was just a helmet with the actual robot head beneath/inside designed after the original robot head. And the gun-swords are made out of the same soft white plastic as the horns and other rubbery parts and then painted gunmetal grey. So no paint rubbing on the 5 mm pegs. I hope a 3rd party company makes sturdy replacements. What I really like is the white inside of his lower legs. Looks like you could see his bones. And I wonder how his locomotion in alt mode works. I mean he has no treads or wheels in the front. Does the front hover? But a half hovering propulsion is something very impractical in my mind.

This is still as weird as it is and as bad as that alt mold is, one of my favorite figures of legacy to date. My figure feels like hand candy and the qc is perfect to this day. I painted it up a bit to give shading to the head to accentuate the eyes and bone features in the sculpt but easily one of my favorites. Not the best by any means but still great to me.

As far as I remember Hasbro was going to change plastic supplier. The thing I didn't relize is that apparently they meant they are going to change from bad to worse... Just like a clear plastic, not a big fan on soft one, it tends to become sticky, leaking substance which melts other plastcs and paint (figures like Armada (?) Demolisher, RotF voyager Bludgeon - that's double example, includes warping out of shape, CW leader Megatron, PotP Blackwing and Dreadwind, just to name few most infamous). Unfortunately apparently we'll see more of it (Legacy Blitzwing). On side note, that "energon infused weapons" seems to be fastest dumped gimmick so far. Hasbro jumps between ideas like a bee with adhd between flowers.

What is the deal we get potp pretenders that kinda do the original gimmick but really don't do anything like not even a good looking weapon. Now we get a core class and deluxe class figure that don't even compare in size like I would be happy if they made a leader class so they could squeeze more money of me but if it had this deluxe size robot that transformed just slap it in a shell that moves its arms and legs guaranteed to make people satisfied at last. I need to just buy an original pretender at this point.

I wouldn't even dare wishing for a full on Pretender gimmick, but I would have settled for a removeable beast helmet to reveal the robot head. Such a missed opportunity! As for the plastic, I understand why long thin pieces are made of softer plastic in order to withstand the stress of moving parts or accidental falls. I'm just worried it will deteriorate quicker than rigid plastic. And what's the deal with the new no-wheels-just-drag-along trend lately? Deluxes like micromasters tanks? Less and less vale for our money...

​@@chefatron yeah, lack of budget, but then you have a deluxe such as Slammer with fantastic pain applications, and then a Shattered Glass Ultra Magnus, a repaint at a premium price (90 euros in Europe) with unpainted rims and side windows... I accept the budget constraints justification/strategy, but only if it is applied with consistency and... decency. :-)

The gun/blades/whatevers being soft plastic are probably being on the same sprue as the horns for the mold.
