Disclaimer: I am NOT a Transformers reviewer, mostly because I hate transforming Transformers. I love the characters and looks for the robots, I watched the hell out of the G1 cartoon, and Soundwave is my favorite ever so I went for it. Hasbro's Siege line is amazing so far, so much so I think I'm a Transformers collector again. Dang it...

The grey blaster Soundwave comes with is Siege Megatron's back shoulder cannon. :D When it's attached Siege Megatron has a G1 profile with the back shoulder cannon sticking out behind and to the side of his head. :D

I have lots in common with what you are saying here. I tend to heavily favor robot modes, I am also a G1-oriented collector, and I get frustrated with certain transformations... But this Soundwave's scratched deck kills me, and I am not sure I am ever gonna get it. I feel that the robot mode is as you say: it is a nice G1 update. But I also feel that the alt mode is a total flurp, which is the name I give to the Transformers that turn into vehicles and objects that no one knows what they really are (and then you look for a reference picture to verify whether you have transformed it well at all and you say: "WTFlurp!?").

Great review Robo! Yeah it looks like I'll be starting this Siege line, lol. The G1 pull is strong on these. I've also seen where that weird collapsable weapon he has can fit on the back of Megatron to make the gun barrel tip on his back G1 look. And I'm totally down with a scaled line of TFs in their robot modes with ML level articulation. All mine stay in robot mode as well. Course I do transform them a couple of times at first while making the classic sound, lol.

Optimus didn't really convince me, neither did Megatron, and it wasn't Soundwave alone. It was when I started putting them together and seeing how great they look as a group that put me over. I wish I had saved my boxes for this line.... more so for that side package artwork. I’m hearing rumors that if you take a black light to the side of the artwork there’s a hidden message with the pictures. Sound wave also has a lamp alternate mode displayed at the bottom of the package, just like he camouflaged himself in episode one of more than meets the eye. Another side note.... I’m the same age as you, as a kid I didn’t need instructions to Transform my figures(back in the 80’s), I just went to work! I can’t deny, I find it a lot more challenging with these modern figures as well.... me being a hands on visual learner, I heavily rely on KZbin. One more thing before I go.... I started collecting Hasbro Transformers around the middle of Titans Return, these and the majority of the potp figures.... I must truly say, for me, I think Hasbro finally got it right with this Siege line!

SO glad I watched this review. After seeing your IG post the other day I REALLY wanted to get into this line (even though the wife is ready to kill me for now getting into Mezco). But seeing that Soundwave transforms into a.........a ship???? Nope. No deal there. Either transform into the CORRECT thing or don't transform at all. Sorry, I'm a G1 snob. Transformers were my #2 right behind Star Wars toys growing up. I need G1 done correctly across the board or I'm out. Lol. Mini nerd-rant is now over! :-)

Haha, I hear ya, but a lot of comments have said that with some fiddling and arm removal, you can get it into tape deck mode, plus on the bottom of the package it shows it can transform into the lightpost he was disguised as in the very first episode back in the day. I haven't tried either yet, but daaaaang. I also wish Megatron became a gun. But like I said, I'm in it for the robots and this line delivers.

The legs for laserbeak can actually fit on his forearms (but not securely) using groves on either the right or left forearm if you don't want to use the peg and have laserbeak with legs

I'm good with my titans return soundwave I don't really mind him being bigger than my siege Megatron, but damn the fact that it can actually press it's eject button is tempting enough to make me want it. If there's a way to clean up the chest piece (91% isopropyl alcohol took the battle damage off of Megatron) I might wind up getting this one later.

Just asking, does the right arm (the one attached to the gray antenna) connects to the main body loosely? I saw it pop off in the vid once or twice. I hope it’s not bad or anything since it’s an awesome toy and you put up a great review there.

It's only because it's pegged in a softer plastic (the antenna) than the left. It doesn't just fall out but when hit it tends to pop out.

the tiny hole in Soundwave's butt is a peg hole for an action base so if you want you can get him in flying poses, all the Siege Transformers can do that. also in case you don't know G1 Soundwave is gonna show up a Walmart soon.

If you open the bottom side of the box, there is a hidden picture of Soundwave's lamp mode which he can transform into and if you slide the arms off, you can transform him into his cassette mode. By the way, your transformation sequence was VERY good. I think a lot of the main Transformers reviewers are getting lazy and sloppy.

The shoulder joint is a mushroom peg that allows the arm to swivel 360, you can just slide the arm off and on with damaging the figure. Use a little force and comes out and pops back in. Once off, you then just fold the legs up like the G1 cassette mode. Not perfect but gets the job done.

Why didn't I remember this when I watched yesterday!? Robo!! Have you seen Flame Toys Furai Transformers model kits?! They're on par with Bandai kits in quality and articulation, and they don't transform so they focus on just the character alone rather than the bot and the ult-mode. So far they have two different Primes, a starscream, and a Megatron on the way that can be either decepticon or autobot (he becomes an autobot in the comics, I'm just automatically assuming that "Robo don't know").

Alright. So I’m 14 going on 15 and I am a HUGE G1 fan. But the thing is when I was a small boi there was no G1 figures to buy. And on MY 2010 Christmas list I ask for soundwave I get the Michael Bay Megatron cool but to much of a pile of scrap metal. And the original G1. Was a couple hundred at the time. So when this figure came out I LOST MY SHIT. And oh my god I’m so happy G1 is popular again.
