This brings me to tears because 1) Jacob is awesome 2) his family is supportive 3) I grieve my lost childhood and the support I never had. I too realized I was different when I was 5 years old, but there wasn't any understanding and I had to endure/survive a lot of nonsense. As a 35 year old social worker who medically transitioned over 14 years ago, I share my story to help kids like Jacob know they are not alone. Jacob is the next generation advocate and, though I don't personally know him, I am so proud of him!

I too have a young transgender daughter who just turned 8 (transitioned at 6) and these children know EXACTLY who they are in this world! We didn't have to tell them anything, they figured out all on their own. Being trans is best described by how we "Choose" which hand to write with.... We don't actually "choose". We write with the hand that feels most comfortable and easiest for us. If you are left handed and are forced to write with your right hand, you CAN and with practice, be VERY good at it - but it will never FEEL natural, easy or "right". THAT is what it is like to be trans.

I suffered a 4 massive breakdowns each preceded by months of wave after wave of dysphoria washing over me every waking moment. The longer we wait the harder it is. Think of it this way: if giving a non-trans child the wrong hormones damages them, how much worse is it for the trans child forced to endure their "natural" and very wrong hormones.

My worry is not for kids like Jacob that expressed their trans identity from very early childhood. My worry is for the teens (mostly female) that express rapid onset gender dysphoria in mid adolescence. Many of these teens will have body dysphoria and mental health issues that are not being treated. That is my worry about current TRA.

I'm that trans guy lol,here's my story.I'm 14 and I was born female but since I was as young as jakob around 4 years old is when I knew that I was a boy and I knew that's who I am so I just grew up dressing and acting like a boy and people did call me a boy and I was super happy and my parents are Christian so I don't wanna tell them,I'm scared that they may think something is wrong with me and I also like girls and dated a few but my parents know nothing they just think I'm a tomboy but since I started puberty at 11 my dysphoria became so bad and at 12 during quarantine I almost ended it because I was getting called a girl all the time,hated my body,started self harm,suffered from depression,did bad at school,was an outcast at school,gained over 100 pounds and now I'm 14 and I lost some of the weight that i gained in 2020 but I'm at my worst mental state right now but I'm fighting and lucky to be alive and no kid is supposed to be going through this but I'm trying to heal and I just want to lose some weight and build muscle to look more masculine to decrease my dysphoria and look like my true self it's a struggle and I don't know if I'll ever tell my family but I will transition as soon as I turn 18,if you want to see what I look like you can go to my instagram it's @jace.szn__ Little update,I'm 15 and a half now,16 in 5 months and I'm doing better,lost 10kg/22lbs since January,looking better,healthier than ever,made some friends,love my life

My parents are catholic and my family is really strict about rules and how we do things how we dress, and because of that I was put into a Private school where this and that wasn’t allowed. In third grade I switched to public that’s when I really started feeling that I was not in the right body. My mom wanted to dress me all nice and cute and I hated it. The days I would get to dress my self it was tee shirts sweatpants and sweatshirts but I felt comfortable. Then in 4th grade, during summer vacation I left my mom a note in my parents room and left to grandparents house hopefully think somebody would read it . My mom read and immediately came to pick me up, I asked her why she came to pick me up she was silent the whole car ride home we got home and she told me god choose for you to be a girl re you saying he doesn’t now what your doing. In my mind I was like he could have accidentally made a mistake. My mom immediately said no you are a girl you will stay a girl and will never ever ask me this question again. My mom moved on thinking it was a phase but I always had that thought in my head that one day she would change her mind. I am now in 7 grade and still am thinking that way and my mom still thought I was a phase but this year me had to move houses because of covid and my mom told me to give away anything I know I am not going to wear. I basically gave away everything I had very little clothes form my old house and my mom said what about all this clothes and I told her I am not going to wear this and she said but I thought you like this clothes and I said no you liked this clothes not me. She later than said okay you know what I thought this was a phase and you apparently still haven’t got over this thing. My parents than began to judge about everything and I continue to dress this way but them my family began to judge why are you dressing like this why are you wearing this or why aren’t you wearing this. And it made me buy depressed were I am currently am right now and I makes me happy to see these kids that there parents accept them for who they are and they are not judged for who they are.

i wanted to be a boy when i was a kid. and i never liked (still don't) wearing dresses, make-up, combing my hair etc etc. i used to ask my mom why oh why i was a boy. i still wear androgynous clothes. i never wear make-up (or hardly). i still don't care about looking like a pretty woman. i don't have breasts (so tiny you can't notice them). i fancy guys, but guys don't fancy my style. i don't mind. i'm a woman. but most and foremost, i am ME. your parents love you. they don't show it the right way. they lack understanding. it's okay. they're not perfect. you're not perfect. show them the empathy you feel they're lacking. write them a letter. just write what you feel, what you need from them, what you've learnt from them. tell them that you don't want to grow as a confused teenager/adult. you don't have to give the letter to them. you may want to keep it. it may help you get your thoughts in 'order', so as to be able to put the right words to express your feelings. best-est of luck and much strength to you

If you're asking me if I'd encourage kids to go on hormones (something that never happens, but the media likes to pretend does) then absolutely not. He's a child. If you're asking me about hormone blockers, it's a harder one because there ARE adverse effects, but at the same time, there are adverse effects of birth control, and a ridiculous amount of teenage girls are given that at 11/12/13. Ultimately, the only thing I'd encourage is that a parent take their child to a psychiatrist who can help their child explore their feelings, and also rule out any other underlying causes of their dysphoria before even considering next steps.

When I was 9 I wanted to be a dolphin so my parents took me to the beach and pointed me to the ocean. After about 15 minutes heading out to sea, I decided i wanted to just be a human and returned home to live a normal life. I'm so happy that society is moving in the right direction. I think the face Childern are coming out with LGBTQIA younger and younger and more and more often is not only totally awesome but hopeful that someday being lgbtqia will not be "different" or "in the minority" but just as regular and common as being cisgender or hetero. I'd love to live in a world where being lgbtqia is and accepted norm that begins in early childhood. I also like the idea as raising children as gendernutral, agender, non-binary or genderfluid UNTIL THEY ARE OLD ENOUGH TO DECIDE INSTEAD OF PARENT'S ASSUMING A CHILDS GENDER WITH OUT ANY CLUE WHAT IT WILL. Be I feel assigning gender at birth based on physical anatomy is descrimination and suppression
