This was a very good step by step. Thanks for all the details on tools needed as well. To those who have not done the job yet; it would be a good idea to use a funnel with a hose attached. The transmission fluid has a lot of resistance going in and the system with burp many times. I leaked transmission fluid down the transmission because of this. I would use a skinny funnel and pour slowly and take breaks in between to wait for any burping that occurs. Thanks again for the tutorial

To get to the "injection bolt", or fill plug at the top of the transmission more easy, you can take out the battery and battery mount. It is only 7 screws to do that and it gives you a ton more space to get a ratchet in there and a funnel for filling. You will need a 10mm, 1/2in, and - I believe - 12mm sockets.

When measure the transmision oil level should be start or running the motor or not?....vehicle is start or off?
@AutomotiveForBeginners3 жыл бұрын
Vehicle should be on and running according to the manual. Or you could get the Sorento up to 50~60°C (122~140°F) temperature. Then turn off. Then you could measure oil.

Hey you're right. Wow my math is pretty bad. But even if I am wrong, would you rather change your transmission fluid every 2 years or 4 years? Sometimes being wrong is not so wrong.

Yes, it's been about 8 months now and no issues. Actually reduced alot of transmission slipping since. Since it is a drain and fill and not a flush, you're going easy on the seals.

Isn’t it supposed to be done with transmission warm? The fluid level would too low if yo do it cold?
@AutomotiveForBeginners Жыл бұрын
Yes you are correct. Make sure to get the Kia Sorento running up to 50-60 degrees Celsius (122-140 degrees Fahrenheit) before doing the transmission fluid change. Its in the description box.

Owner book says it contain 7.8 lt. İf just 2lt comes out its interesting 🧐
@AutomotiveForBeginners3 жыл бұрын
Yup. You can check it out for yourself. Drain out all fluid and try to pur in more than 2 litres. You will see the fluid will start pour back out side filler hole. Must be engineered that way. Only a flush would remove all the remaining tranny fluid.
@deschutz993 жыл бұрын
Doing this a few times in a row with each engine oil change will be near equal to a flush. Atf for this car is fairly cheap, valvoline maxlife multi car works just fine and is affordable.. Do three times and it's the same as a flush but cheaper. Many techs will advise against flush with older transmissions as the flush may loosen bits of material plugging up potential leak points. Drain and fill is all you really need to do with this many km. If had been flushed regular from beginning at recommended intervals that's a different story.

I have the exact same year/make/model/trim - this one is a major pain in the ass since the bolts are so hard to reach. Were you unable to get a socket over the drain bolt at the bottom? I'd like to torque it to spec but it seems difficult to reach.
@AutomotiveForBeginners3 жыл бұрын
You could try and use a swivel if you have to torque to spec. But you may no other option but to use wrench.

Hi, my wife has a 2011 Kia Sorento with 125,000 miles, she is second owner and she has never changed the trans oil, and she doesn't know if it has been done previously, would it be safe to do it after all that time?
@AutomotiveForBeginners2 жыл бұрын
I'm still changing trans oil at 250,000 miles. Definitely safe as long as you do 'drain and fills'. 'Flushes' unnecessary at this point.
@robertsolis12323 жыл бұрын
No filter change needed?
@AutomotiveForBeginners3 жыл бұрын
Negative. There is an internal filter inside that is supposed to go for the life of transmission. You could unbolt the face plate and change the filter inside if you wanted. The book time is over 10 hours to replace.
