Thank you for making this video. I have a 2014 ram with 220,000 mi on it. It has that three-way valve to preheat your transmission fluid and it has a transmission cooler that wasn't working. So, after watching your video I bypassed the transmission warming circuit and now I have heat and might truck sooner than 40 minutes after it starts and I eliminated the transmission cooler thermostat so my transmission temperatures aren't getting up to 230°. Thank you

That's funny. I live in Fairbanks. You see cardboard on front of vehicles. We also use oil pan heaters . On the engine and tranmission.

Great video Logan! Quick question, I've got an early '91 with a TF727 and I'm ditching my heat exchanger and dinky little front cooler with my new engine build. I'd love some advice on what cooler to put under the bed that would be able to keep up with my slip'n'slide tf727, truck should be putting down close to 500hp, maybe a touch less. I'm looking at a griffin CXU-00001, but it may end up being a bit large for where it needs to go, other options are a derale 65860, or maybe even a derale 15875 if you think it would be enough to get me by for now. Any idea on how many btu's a cooler should be able to handle for being run as a standalone under the bed? The forums are just FULL of people who think the truck will spontaneously explode with the heat exchanger deleted, so finding any info on what cooler would be able to take it's place is near impossible. Thanks!

@@mjpermin the heat exchangers job was to heat the transmission up quicker with engine coolant. It has no real cooling ability. You can delete it and not change your transmission cooler and the transmission temps will not run hotter. IMO the cooler brand matters very little in comparison to proper placement. If doing a remote mount cooler, it needs to be mounted in a fashion that the fan is on top of the cooler pulling fresh air from under neath of the truck.

Imagine if there was a way to prevent the heat from even generating in the first place ... like a lockup clutch in the torque converter or something.
@bcbloc02
@bcbloc02 Жыл бұрын
Well technically there is heat generated on every gear shift when the clutches or bands engage that period of it locking generates a burst of heat.
@LoganbuiltRaceShop

Extremely small amount. Nothing you’d ever see in even the best temp sensor and for such a short duration it has virtually no effect on the trans fluid temp.

Do people run remote coolers by themselves on the street? I have a Mishimoto stock replacement up front and deleted the heat exchanger because I'm on the central coast of CA with average temps of 60s to 70s year round. I want to free space up front and have the charged air cooler work more efficiently because it's just used for carrying weight in the bed usually minimal and fun on the street. I have a Derale 65861 that I will be putting behind the transfer case like you recommended in your FAQ on your website. Good thing I saw that because I was goign to put it under the bed.

I have I have an RFE66 in my 2018 RAM 2500. I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT TROUBLE FROM THIS TRANSMISSION. FORTUNATELY I HAVE HAD THE EXTENDED FACTORY WARRANTY TO COVER MOST OF THE COST EXCEPT FOR THE DEDUCTIBLE. I CONSISTENTLY SEE OVER 200° IN TRANSMISSION AND I AM NOT TOWING ANYTHING. I DID ASK THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT THAT AND THEY SAID IT WAS FINE. MY INSTINCTS SAID NO. YOUR VIDEO HAS SOLIDIFIED THAT IN MY MIND I NEED TO PUT A TRANSMISSION COOLER ON THIS TRANSMISSION AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. I’M ONLY DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE RIGHT NOW AND I SEE 204° OF TRANSMISSION TEMPERATURE. YOU SAID THAT’S THE TEMPERATURE IN THE PAN. SO THAT MEANS THE TEMPERATURE IN THE TRANSMISSION IS WELL ABOVE 204°at some point, especially at the torque converter if I understand correctly. Good video thank you

I have a 2011 f150 with the 3.5L. I have a camper that weighs about 6500Lbs fully loaded and get up to 205F pretty regularly. What should I do? 6500lb for That truck really is only about half of It’s towing capacity and I’m good about not running the truck hard at all. Any advice would be great!!

I have a built 6r140 transmission on 2017 f250 normal temps without towing is 200-205 towing or racing it 225 is where it will be . I have a bd double trans cooler installed. I’ve talked to revmax and a few ford tech and they say it’s normal and the LV fluid is good for 250-275. What do you think and what temps do you see on powder strokes?

Hi Logan, Im sorry this is long but I have a question for you. I have a stock 2000 Dodge ram Cummins Diesel 3500 quad cab dully 4x4 truck with 4:10 gear ratio with 33 inch tires and an auto trans 47re. I live in the Houston area and twice a year I go on vacation to the Colorado mountains. Last year I was pulling my sxs in my 15' steel dump trailer and I stayed in 2nd gear going up a steep highway mountain pass at approx. 25-30 mph. and wanted to make sure and keep my EGT's on the engine under 1100 degrees which I did. I also have an after market external transmission temp sensor that I was constantly watching the whole time. (Not sure where its mounted on the trans.) After 10- 15 minutes of going up hill in 2nd gear, my factory red trans light went off on my dash and my aftermarket trans temp said 228 degrees. I instantly pulled over and set the E brake and put the trans is neutral. It did cool down after 10-15 minutes and the trans ran great the whole rest of the trip. The next mountain pass that I came to I decided put the truck in 4 LOW and allowing the truck to shift through all the gears as it desired and drove only 18-20 mph up the pass and no more trans warning lights nor did my aftermarket trans temp get above 190. When I got back to Texas I had my trans guy drop the pan and look at it and he said everything looks great and he thinks I did not hurt it. The trans still runs great to this day. I am planning to get a fifth wheel Rv (approx. 16,000 lbs fully loaded) in the future and it will be much heavier than the dump trailer with the sxs. I always change the the trans fluid and filter every 20-25k miles. My question is, is there something more I can do to keep the trans temp down under mountain pass driving or should I just stay in 4 LOW the next time? What do you think based on everything I have described above? Thanks, Wesley🙂

Quick question that I am having a hard time finding the answer to I have a aftermarket torque converter that was used in a 47rh I am trying to figure out if this converter will work in a 48re. Is there a way to identify if this converter is a new enough unit to be universal like current 47/48 torque converter? Than you have a good day also thank you for the video very informative
@LoganbuiltRaceShop

You can, I would just advise removing the converter sealing ring on the stator support of the 48.

Most vehicles trans operating temp is 175-185F. Around 190F-200F is ok for shorter periods of time, but ideally not all the time. Temps 200-220F are ok for 5 mins when climbing hills etc. If you get 240F then slow down or stop in neutral and rev a little bit to keep fluid circulating and cool down. If you stop and shut off engine then fluid stops circulating and doesn't get cooled.
