Fun story about sports: For most of the history of the Olympics, skeet shooting was a mixed sport, where men and women could both compete. In 1992, a woman from China not only took the gold, but set a new world record in the sport. In 1996, women were banned from competing in the sport, and since 2000, women were made to shoot in a separate category, where they only shoot 75 targets per stage where the men's category continues to shoot 125, ensuring that women can no longer shoot a better score than men. So yeah...

I do love it when a woman is outshining the men so hard, they have to completely change the rules. Some men are really the definition of insecure.
@FrozEnbyWolf1503 ай бұрын
Also, the original reason sports were segregated was to exclude women by relegating them to a separate division, not protect them. Women who played sports were disparaged as being too "manly" or as being lesbians, as if that's a bad thing. The biggest problems in women's sports today are lack of funding, lack of media coverage, and under regulation.

@@FrozEnbyWolf150 a MAJOR reason men often perform better than women in sports is also exactly that... little boys are taught they should play soccer or basketball or w/e sport and are pushed and pushed and pushed and trained and a LOT of money goes into it... little girls are taught they can be mothers...

Our primary school's Rugby coach was a woman. She was in her mid 40s and retired from the provincial rugby team. Some kid's very sexist dad refused to have a woman be his son's coach, so the coach said that if the dad could beat her in a 1v1, she'd agree to step down and let a man be coach instead. She absolutely destroyed him. This woman was built for rugby. She was a beast 🤣 The dad actually gained some respect for her and acknowledged that she's an excellent coach and fit to teach his son.

If transitioning was as easy as transphobes thought, we would live in such a wonderful world
@msjkramey3 ай бұрын
I definitely think it should be more accessible, but idk that it should switch all the way into "easy," at least not for medical transition because all medicine carries risks. Social transition though? Who is that going to get hurt if people start wearing different clothes and using different pronouns? That should absolutely be easy and safe for people to do And more people need to go to therapy and the doctor in general, not just when something bad happens or they go through a life change or whatever
@waffles36293 ай бұрын
Yep. And they straight up call you a liar for saying any differently. I had a transphobe tell me a 12 year old girl could walk into a hospital and get a hysterectomy that day, then tell me to stop lying when I said I'd been trying to get one for 5 years as an adult for **medical** reasons and had no luck (ended up getting it 7 years into trying). Like WTF, no one is walking into a hospital, asking for elective surgery and being handed a gown, let alone a kid under the age of medical consent.

I didn’t know that the pledge of allegiance existed until I was like 13. The idea that kids are forced to recite a speech to a flag every day is so strange. That’s some cult-like behaviour.
@kittygoesWOOF3 ай бұрын
It's still so insane to me that people in the US were reciting this "pledge of allegiance" throughout most or all of their school careers regardless of belief. I was in 1st or 2nd grade when I stopped (that would be around 6 or 7 years old). I didn't/don't believe in a god, and I knew that religion and school were to be separated (without yet knowing why). I went to school across the US, moving a lot. It wasn't like I got a free pass, I would get in trouble for it here and there, but it was mild. I don't know that I faced any real repercussions. I've heard of schools trying to take things to the extreme to force kids but as far as I'm aware, the division between church and state as well as freedom of religion were two major reasons the students typically were able to exercise their rights. I'm in my early 30s though, and I don't know that it would be as easy across the US today, simply because of fundies and the increasingly blurred lines regarding religion in schools. For example, I lived in Knoxville, Tennessee for awhile as a kid right after 9/11. If I were in school there today, I honestly don't know if the law would even be on my side anymore.
@theoneandonly18333 ай бұрын
@@thatlilly Not forced. Mostly, kids are encouraged to and might bc of social expectations, but over the past decade there has been a sharp decline in kids who actually recite it versus just standing up and pretending to. Lots of schools have abolished it in states that let them.

The best part is that it was written by a Socialist and the words were changed several times, just to make it more "patriotic." Francis Bellamy had hoped originally that any country could us it. Until 1954 when Eisenhower had "Under God" added as an artifact of the Cold War so the US could claim moral high ground because we weren't "godless communists." The original was: "I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all." *Liberty and Justice for all buffering*

The thing that gets me most is, like... John Money's thesis was on the *transphobe's* side. Trans-affirming people are the ones who think people have a gender identity that's so important you need to affirm it to keep people alive and healthy. John Money and the transphobes believe there's nothing but your "basic biology", no such thing as gender identity, which is the whole reason Money thought he could simply change David Reimer's biology to make him live as a girl.
@NovaSaber3 ай бұрын
As someone who literally first heard of what John Money did in the context of how he did it because he thought gender did NOT exist independently of socialization, and the result proved him wrong, it's utterly baffling to me that transphobes apparently think he's the origin of trans ideas about gender. (It's also why I think it's strange when people who think they're being trans-affirming say "gender is a social construct". Gender roles are a social construct, but gender identity is not determined by them.)

@21:34 This just shows they do NOT understand Super Mario. Nintendo stated that Mario is the type of guy who's kind to everyone because he's traveled all over and met all sorts of people. Mario wouldn't be a transphobe. Also in Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, he befriended a trans person named Vivian (a character working for the main antagonist who's constantly being bullied by her sisters for being trans) and she joins Mario in his adventure.
@HorseDe-luxe3 ай бұрын
The original US version of the thousand year door rudely omitted that detail about her, when it was present from the start in the Japanese version. But I heard the recent remake restored it, which is fantastic; it also made transphobes get really mad, which is also fantastic.

@@Dashie04 Um you are aware that the game was made in 2004, right? That's 20 years ago. Many people didn't understand trans people and just lumped it with cross dressing or being gay or it was the only way to get pass the censors to have a trans character in a E rated game. We have a better understanding these days of what the differences are so the old translation may be out of date. Vivian being trans makes way more sense because crossdressing doesn't involve preferred pronouns/gender affirmation. Also how is she cross dressing if all she has is that candy cane striped witch's hat and gloves? Her hair being a wig? Also it's hinted that she has a crush on Mario , so she's either a femboy crushing on a man or a trans girl crushing on a man. Either way, she's a queer rep.

My son was circumcised because his grandmother told me about a flaw in his father's genealogy that she ignored initially and it led to his father having to be circumcised at 7. So I had my son circumcised out of fear. I suppose the good side is he slept through it. The doctor said he was the first baby he had ever had that considered the restraint device so comfortable they slept through circumcision.

What I love the most about that Trans Theft Auto is that they left the character Donald Love untouched. For those who didn't know, Donald Love was inspired by Trump... Over a decade before he became god emperor of the international rightoid community 😂 From the GTA wiki: "He is based on American business magnate and politician Donald Trump. Resemblances include their given names, their haircuts (particularly in Vice City), their relentlessness and success in real estate business, and their failed political campaigns (Love's defeat in a mayoral election and Trump's eventual withdrawal from 2000 U.S. presidential election). Love's insanity and his temporary bankruptcy in Liberty City Stories may have reflected Trump's '90s lifestyle, who was known at the time for his extensive partying, and for several of his businesses going bankrupt." All those games came in the early 2000, before his darker side was more globally exposed, so it's even funnier to me that they kept him on the cover. Pretty sure Donald Love is also a cannibal.

I would also like to add that what his victims went through was horrific 😢. He was a pedophile disguised as a scientist. He also lied about his experiments being successful and both twins unfortunately committed s-word. In my first comment, I was trying to put out there that his experiments did in fact prove that gender is a part of identity, not conditioning. But I wasn't trying to be insensitive to the transgender community. ❤

So, as a practicing trans Catholic (still presenting as my agab because I've only been on E for 10 weeks), I can speak to the religious arguments a bit. The idea that being trans goes against God is based in the idea that souls themselves have sex by virtue of God designing us exactly ordered as we're supposed to be. But this is not stated in the Bible, and can only be argued through semi-related verses. It's as easy to argue for trans identity with the Bible as it is to argue against trans identity. Catholicism even has a caveat that transition can fit in called "the principle of double effect". If souls aren't unambiguously sexed, then transition itself is morally neutral, and therefore permissible as a treatment for gender dysphoria. None of that's what the Church teaches on trans issues though, just how I've reconciled my gender identity with my faith. As for demons going by they/them, that's just because they're fallen angels and angels are beings of pure spirit. The only reason we refer to named angels with he/him is because they often choose to present as men (eg, the Archangels like St. Michael). Fundamentally, they have no sex.

Seriously, I don't care if someone doesn't care about my content - heck, I actively encourage people to mute and block me if they don't want to see my content! The LAST thing I want is people seeing my content when they don't want to see it - but you don't need to tell me about it, and I'd REALLY rather they didn't...

11:48 Here's the fun part: if interpreted holistically and with understanding of the nuances of the cultural context it was written in, the Bible has a surprising amount of positive queer and gender non-conforming representation. Aside from God and the early Church being explicitly pleased with a few unnamed people who we'd recognize as trans and/or intersex, some of the biblical heroes were pretty queer. Adam was arguably created intersex, and definitely referred to using gender-ambigious language. Jacob is extremely feminine-coded and contrasted with his extremely masculine-coded brother Esau. Joseph's coat of many colors is referred to with a word that can also be translated as a woman's garment. King David and Johnathan use language of endearment towards each other that are extremely gay. Jesus frequently referred to His relationship with His church in maternal (rather than paternal) terms and metaphors.

12:32 Someone should probably fact check this, but I think there is an advantage pre transition. In any case though transphobes are doing more to use this for their transphobic agenda than actually thinking of ways to make it fair for everyone. Also, something I don't think Jammi mentioned: At one point, there was a cis woman who wasn't allowed to participate in a sport because she had too much testosterone, being required to take estrogen so that she can participate. She refused.

@@saoirse2963 "Transgender and gender-nonbinary teens face greater risk of sexual assault in schools that prevent them from using bathrooms or locker rooms consistent with their gender identity, according to a recent study. Researchers looked at data from a survey of nearly 3,700 U.S. teens aged 13-17. The study found that 36% of transgender or gender-nonbinary students with restricted bathroom or locker room access reported being sexually assaulted in the last 12 months, according to a May 6, 2019 CNN article. Of all students surveyed, 1 out of every 4, or 25.9%, reported being a victim of sexual assault in the past year. “Unfortunately, kids’ access to restrooms and locker rooms has become very politicized in some communities,” said Gabriel Murchison, PhD candidate in population health sciences at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and lead author of the study. Murchison noted that although the study only shows an association, not whether the restrictions themselves caused the sexual assaults, “they are certainly a strong indicator of environments where kids are at risk.” In an NBC News article, Murchison suggested that the issue can be addressed with “better supervision of lockers rooms, more privacy options (like curtained changing areas), and an effective and consistent school response to harassment.”

About the colour thing. I’m a teacher and student council announced that prom colours were white, silver, and red. I had a white suit and thought I could just buy a red shirt. And be supportive of the theme/ blend into the background. Online I found a shirt that looked like it was red striped when pictured so you could see the entire outfit it was called “brown” I liked the stripe idea and found another shirt called “watermelon red” but the picture looked identical to the brown shirt. I found a secondary comment calling it “red” so I bought it. It’s yellow ochre striped. Colours can be subjective also in that comic the tag on the dress could have said “red” that’s what I would have assumed. And I assume you that my cis het grandfather that met my grandmother at art school would agree the stripes on my shirt are yellow ochre.
