Hello Miss Estruch, I just wanted to let you know how incredibly helpful your videos are. This is probably the most helpful channel on youtube when it comes to A-Level biology. Thank you so much for the amazing content!! Its very much appreciated by me, a new year 12 biology student.

Miss I don’t even have any words to express my gratitude. Like your videos help sooooo much more than you could possibly imagine. To read the chapter in the book, takes hours and I don’t understand nothing much. But your videos make me understand ALL that’s included in my chapters, (even more than what’s in the book which helps me understand the book content better) that too in a very short time!!! Honestly, thank you so so so much.

So is a phosphorylation reaction an example in the membranes. When molecules (ie glucose) bind to the carrier proteins, ATP is hydrolysed into ADP and Pi, and that Pi attaches onto the carrier protein causing it to change shape.

Hi, on the aqa specification it says we need to know simple diffusion but in brackets it says (involving the limitations imposed by the nature of the phospholipid bilayer) What is meant by this?
@MissEstruchBiology4 жыл бұрын
Hello, This is referring to knowing what types of molecules simply diffuse through the phospholipid bilayer (e.g. only small, lipid-soluble/non-polar molecules). By 'nature' they are referring to the hydrophobic head and hydrophilic tails of the phospholipids. Hope this helps.

Hey, just curious. On 07:44, for the solution definitions. Hypertonic is when the water potential of a solution is more negative than the cell, let's say a question pops up asking what a hypertonic solution is. Would I get the mark if I put "A hypertonic solution is when the cell has a higher water potential than the solution". It's the same thing isn't it? Or like, do I have to use specific terminology on that one?
@MissEstruchBiology2 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't use 'higher' I'd stick to saying either more or less negative. Pure water had a water potential of 0, so all other water potentials are negative. That's why we say more or less negative. Hope that helps ☺️
@shadowallison73172 жыл бұрын
@@MissEstruchBiology Hypertonic is when cells shrivel up so the water potential of the solution is more negative than the cell. And vice versa for hypotonic?

How are channel proteins specific to what ion they transport? Thank youu

Its due to the unique 3d shape proteins have, so only certain molecules can fit through.

Hello, the definition for diffusion is rarely asked at A level, more likely to be a marking point in a longer question or something to discuss within the essay. And in those instances the more detail you give the better, but if you are asked for a definition the main two points would be that it is passive and its the movement of particles from an area of high to low concentration. Hope that helps :)
