Hey guys! Yall are awesome. I wanted to chime in on the video game thing as I work in that industry. So in general...the reason for microtransactions isnt exclusively because companies just want to capitalize on players. Alot of it is the driven by the fact that players want MORE from every game. In order to provide that "more" for players, youve got hundreds of people working to get more content out. Those people need to eat and pay rent too. So while the main team is working on the "more," often lower effort things like cosmetics are sold to players because its new stuff players would want and it doesnt cost significant amounts of time on the dev end. This then brings in more more to continue the devs to create more content. Nobody is happy with straight from the box content anymore. They want more. Believe me, us devs arent big fans of having to do this stuff overall. We arent raking in the dollars and swimming in Scrooge McDuck piles of gold while laughing at the players. We are at our desks crunching to deliver things in hopes that players dont get too mad between their content drops because they will review bomb us to oblivion! Also...yeah its a can of worms that started with Bethesda and its never going to go away. Thankfully alot of companies are at least making it all cosmetic stuff and not Pay to Win as much anymore!

I’m inordinately proud to have had another of my humble aperçus about the podcast quoted by Scott. With regard to today’s discussion, I offer another chipping medium for your consideration: a yeast-derived savoury spread from the UK known as Marmite, so famous for being equally loved and reviled that its name has become a synonym for any product or experience that strongly divides opinion, with no middle ground. Availability in the US may be an issue but I would imagine its adherents, particularly those with Canadian contacts, know of a source. An essentially identical product called Vegemite is a staple in Australia. For modelling purposes it works similarly to toothpaste though it is of a denser consistency. For this reason as well as taste it is also probably best applied - thinly - to toasted rather than untoasted bread, which it is likely to destroy. Combined with peanut butter it is capable of providing a culinary experience that only a true gourmand can appreciate. P.S. A gourmand may be defined as someone who knows the meaning of ‘aperçu.’

Something ive done recently is get rid of the clutter. I dont need 300 paints around me and its really helped my work flow. I got the 3 army painter starter sets, (i filled in the gaps with the fanatics one as it didnt have purple). Ive found a process of put down the fanatic first, it has great coverage if a bit desaturated, then put down the corresponding speed paint, it tints the base layer, and adds shadow, I use the corresponding air paint due to its thinner consistency as a midtone/blend to cover any splotches from the speed paint. Then finally pure fanatic for the highlight.

I picked up from Vince the ultimate army painting tip - Glazing flourescents. Jon talked about it with his terminators but when you use flourescents to glaze with, there’s something subtle yet undeniable about the saturation under any lighting. When I first started I was using flourescent colors like opaque layers and it was frustrating and looked yucky. Glazing is the way

The upscaling it can do on DVDs and 1080p Blu-Rays is so worth. However, your consideration of the Xbox for family reasons is a good compromise.

One thing to take into account is when did you roll well or poorly. Most likely over the course of the game your dice were pretty average overall. But if you spiked 6s when shooting bolters (that didnt matter) and rolled 1s for your lascannons, that makes a big difference.

The Gloomhaven, Jotl, and Frosthaven games' narratives are not super interactive so while a story is there it isn't super in depth. The Haven games are definitely a lot more about playing the game and the mechanics, and unlocking stuff. The only board game I feel like I've ever enjoyed the story is Arkham Horror: The Card Game Also, Jaws of the Lion is sort of an intro game for Gloomhaven. In Gloomhaven you are trying to unlock more classes and scenarios and items. Jaws doesn't have a lot of that.

To the idea of doing a army painting series, maybe lowering the time investment on the creators and the watchers side would make that a lot more fun. Scott already did experiment with 10mm Warmaster, doing a unit per video might be very possible and thinking of a new slightly unique thing to implement on those tiny warriors every short video might be cooking your creative juices just right.

Totally agree, most shows only work for a 2-3 season run unless they are fully unafraid of changing formula. Walking Dead fell flat mid season 3, Lost fell flat from end of Season 2 until midway through the final season, 24 was terrible about 1/2 through season 2... Episodic cartoons worked because you really only got about 15-18 minutes of actual story each episode, now that we are producing shows with more than 40 minutes of actual story and no commercials really exposes repetition, tropes, and cliches in some rather negative light.

Me and a buddy from high school remade our old armies, and did a campaign together. They were leaning into their themes and not matched together well at all. I won a lot purely because he couldn’t kill big armor, so at first of course it was badass, but by the end I just felt bad. I wasn’t winning because I was playing better. I don’t like that kind of winning.

The changes in the Dune movie change in very many ways the outcome of Dune Messiah. Alia is crucial to be present as she sets the time between the destruction of the Atreides and the rise of Muad'dib. In the movie it happens in less than 9 months. In the movie it takes a couple of years for Paul to integrate into the Fremen culture and become one of them

I think if they start Messiah with Alia being the correct age (like she was born in between Dennis' Part 2 and Messiah), it'll all work out pretty well.
