This was one of the coolest most entertaining trapping videos I have ever seen

The long spring "mouse" size traps made long time ago were way better quality. They were more like the Newhouse style if you know what that brand is like, it is one of the best quality leg hold traps back in the day. Anyway, back in the 1970s, as a kid with a trap line, I'd often have a trap line in the kitchen cabinets with these little "mouse" traps. Brings back old memories!!!👍

Nice catches! I caught some shrews by digging out the dome of their tunnel and putting a mouse trap at the front of the dome where the tunnel leads in. I put a bucket over the dome so it stayed dark then less than 5 hours later I caught a shrew. Works really well

Out of the three traps which one do you think is the best? Do you think the coil spring would actually work? Thanks your videos are great!
@blockethoutdoors2 жыл бұрын
I don't think the coil spring one would have held a mouse. I could stick my finger nail in the closed jaws and they would open right up. Both the long spring traps would have worked fine. The one I caught the mouse in I had to file the trigger a little to make it sensitive enough. The other one was more powerful and seemed better built.

Body holds don't dispatch quickly. I used to set 330s for beavers. It's a long, drawn-out ending for the animal.
@blockethoutdoors2 жыл бұрын
Ive watched animals get caught in them before. If its a neck catch they are dead within a few seconds.
@talonlacy13022 жыл бұрын
@wishlifeoutdoors ever saw a beaver struggle for 45 minutes, in a solid neck hold of a 330? I'm talking behind the skull square catch. First beaver I ever caught I watched the trap go off and the struggle. Always when trapping be prepared to dispatch the critter yourself.

You need to use a stick on either side to brace the conibear trap between the jaws or springs, it will less likely move when they come thru
@jaygee9992 жыл бұрын
That's Crazy, Blake ! Seeing you've got a One Leaf, why not do some night rat-shoots vidz ? BTW -- We used old fashion Railroad Automotive Fusee Flares to eradicate burrowing pests -- We'd jam lit flares in the main hole openings = they would stay burning underground and give off noxious gasses that would kill the entire nest --

actually moles are completely blind so you dont have to cover the hole to block light. moles instead use the reflection of pressure waves in the air they push together with their sense of smell to find their way through their tunnels.

Where did you buy the 2.5" rat conibear trap? Thanks for the videos
Somehow mice know what traps are even if they’ve never seen one that’s what makes them so hard to catch. I tried trapping them but I had to resort to hunting them one by one with a pellet rifle. Used to sit in the dark in my kitchen letting my eyes adjust to the dark so I could kill them without spotlighting them with the flashlight I had taped to the barrel. First one I ever shot with it I spotlighted it and he raised up and exposed his belly to me trying to see past it and I plugged his ass. Grabbed its chest and fell back like in a spaghetti western shootout. They got wise to it real quick that’s why I had to start sitting dead still and silent in the dark waiting on them to come out. I’m a hunter I got all the patience in the world when it comes to hunting critters big or small I can kill em all.
