TRASH FISH OR TREASURE EEL | CATCH CLEAN AND COOK

Today I will Catch Clean and Cook a "TRASH FISH" to see if it's any good. I caught an American Eel, and these guys are really slimy and ugly. They will twist around you and everything a get slime everywhere. My Grandmother used to eat these, so I will cook him up. Trash Fish or Treasure??

There was a guy I knew of on Long Island who trapped and smoked eels. He was a heavy drinker and died in a boating accident. Hit a channel marker in his skiff. Another man upstate off the Delaware smokes eels also. Built his house form river stones and puts up an eel weir in the river every year. Smoked eels are super tasty. Even a pate of smoked bluefish is awesome.

Just found your Channel and subscribed.. took my boys out tonight (July 2024) Delaware river and we caught 3 eels.. skinned them cleaned them up and tmrw will be making them grandmas way.. Thanks for the video. Now I have a plan for tmrw..

Oh yeah, I love smoked eels as well as grilled eels. When we grill em we char them and they are so good, our smoked eels we do with alder wood and can them in half pint jars.

Just not as many trash fish as there are good fish. Only one I haven't done that live in these waters is Mudfish (bowfin).

sometimes people think eel looks gross but personally, its just a long fish to me. will say the bigger ones look more appetizing but the way the japanese do it looks the best with the slow grilling and sauce

FOLKS i was skeptical about Sushi for the longest time till a good friend dragged me in & so glad she did got to try little portions of raw/cooked meat. Fish eel? Where I live, we have lampreys. They are a problem as they pray upon the trout and other fish that my area is known for. Are lampreys edible? Are they tasty? I guess if times get tough they will become table-fare. Does anyone know how to make them tasty? I've heard that they have an off taste.
