Another masterclass. I cured a similar problem on a B1 by giving the wheels & the chassis a thorough clean ( just like you did), but I now know what to do if that ever fails to work. I wish I had a poorly loco to send you!

I’ve just replaced some broken axles on a couple of my Bachmann locos and now they rock as they go along the track forward but ok in reverse. Will have to check the axles diameter to check if it’s the problem, similar to yours. Cheers Andy

Great video thanks Dan, interesting about that Masak, I'm just doing a mainline jubilee and replacing the plastic axles from Peters spares, I've done all my Lima models now and filled down all the Masak, it seems to be everywhere, John

Cheers for this Dan. I undertook a J72 last year, with exactly the same problem. I ended up buying a new set of wheels. These are brilliant.

I have just renovated a split chassis J39 and Ivatt 2mt, and despite replacing the axle centres as you have they still waddle a bit. I noted a lot of wear on one of the metal wheels and a slightly wonky fit to the axle centres which I’m now wondering might be due to expansion of the wheel itself (all the others were fine). I tried a few alternative plastic axle centres (Peters Spares, 3d printed and Bachmann spares) and it’s always the same. I’ve also noticed that the Bachmann spares axles are a little short and appear to have wonky ends, the PS ones are much better quality.

Hi Dan, I did not comment on Part One because I was waiting for this video. I have 4 J72s. One of them requires new axles and thanks to you I now have the correct part number. I did not know Peter Spares had a kit for the Mainline Axle Set. The second one I have is J72 North Eastern Joem. Which has the same motor as the one in this video. I have fitted a new motor from Peter Spares, but you have to fif the worm gear from the loco. My problem is that the intermediate gear does not mesh with the new motor and old worm gear. The only difference between yours and mine is that the gears are all white plastic on mine and the ones shown on yours are black. It was a non-runner when I bought it. Any ideas? Martin.
