Dear Sir, I just fixed a non running Hymek (R758 - D7063) that is around 50 years old (not brass wheels, probably newer than this one). They are very rare here in Brazil. It is a great satisfaction to see she run, and i have tho thank you, your videos gave me the knowledge and confidence to try and fix them! Cheers from Brazil! Edit: Mine had felt "washers" where you fit the square bearings, so there wasn't any space left when you clip the retainers back.

2:30 Ronald's instructions advise keeping the compass well away from the magnetiser while in operation as it can reverse the compass polarity. Looking at the video I suspect this may have happened?

I always thought on the hymek bogie, where the ends of the armature are clipped in, that it was held in position with thick felt that needed oil in to help lubricant the ends and not silver bearings to hold the bearings. Same on the triang class 101. Same bogie near enough.

Do you check the resistance figures between the commutator segments?

For dirty wheels. I used a relco unit. But I'm not to sure if they still sell them

Is it possible to add a DCC chip to these Hymeks ? It would make an interesting video.

Thats what the other Hymek in the queue is for. I will overhaul it and attempt a dcc conversion in a future video.

Checking my three Hymeks, all have the brushes fitted at the inner end, so the final assembly is correct. I think there are some continuity issues relative to the brush orientation and your commentary. At the beginning you suggest the brushes may be incorrectly fitted at the inner end of the bogie. The test run at 6:40 (and some of the bearing work) has the brushes at the outer end, but after that, and when reassembled, the brushes are back at the inner end. At 8:10 you note that when originally disassembled, the brushes were at the wrong end (but you don't mention which end!), so is it possible that the 'dismantling' at the beginning was not the first time you'd taken this loco apart? That's not a criticism, but it's taken me a number of watches to understand why the same orientation visible at the beginning was 'wrong', but at the end was 'right'! Incidentally, I think that if the brushes are at the outer end, the loco should still move in the correct direction if you also turn the magnet round, but I haven't tried this!
