I made this DIY epoxy inlaid cutting / serving board with steel metal handles using a cut off from a reclaimed wood pin oak slab. This epoxy cutting board / serving board features cut outs for two whiskey (or tea) glasses, and three cut outs for hor d'oeuvres. I used Total Boat 2:1 epoxy for the inlays which I tinted turquoise. I used my X-Carve from Inventables to create the cut outs in this DIY epoxy cutting board / serving board. At the end of the video I address whether or not epoxy can be food safe. Thanks for watching! Check out my other epoxy projects.

Jonny Builds Doh! I just ordered some epoxy from Total Boat a couple of days ago, wish I would have had the 20% off. Also, just wondering why you use the 2:1 instead of the 5:1?

2:1 is much more clear, you can repour after an hour, and I’ve used it multiple times with consistent, great results.

Jonny Builds thanks for that information. I went ahead and ordered some 2:1 even though I've already got some 5:1 on the way. I'll use the 5:1 when I'm using a dark tint when clarity doesn't matter as much. Thanks again, I look forward to your next project.

The first half of the kzbin.infoUgkx3ICSK6nSknaL_45CU2NmFSoXjarGMDiJ book is everything about wood: types, tools, finishes, setting up shop etc. The second half is all about doing projects for inside and outside of the home. The color pictures are helpful. After reading a dozen of these types of books, this is probably the best overall (layout, color photos, plans). Only detraction is that many of the projects use a table saw/router/planer, which are usually expensive and take up space, so the plans are less friendly to newcomers and the budget conscious. But I know I can use a drill, circular saw or a jigsaw to make the projects.

Easily one of my favorite serving boards I've ever seen. I just cut up about 70 walnut serving boards (for Christmas gifts) to work on this year and I'll be using this as a guide for a few of them. Great work. I love it.

This is soo cool. But at my parties my booze pours are far more generous and my crowds would be pissed if I only provided 3 olives. 😉 All kidding aside, this is great Vid and build. I feel like I always love the idea of making these things but lack the confidence and some tools to do so. I also think I can’t seem to find nice wood slabs like that in Seattle. Every time I go searching they are either all taken or not existent. 😉 But this is inspiring. Thanks for sharing.

It is a cutting board. What I don't like about it is the flat bar at the either side of the corner... Why?.... Because, what if you were cutting a meat and accidentally you hit the steel bar, the knife might get damage... But overall... It was damn good. Kudos to you.. Thanks for that wonderful video...

@@JonnyBuilds Thanks for the LINK! I have zero experience and tools to make a board on my own. I still want to try the resin part. I am on limited budget. @JonnyBuilds
@JonnyBuilds 5 жыл бұрын
If you want something similar to what I made you need a small slab or off cut that has natural void you can fill with epoxy. Another option is to have a traditional cutting board made and router in recesses that you can fill with epoxy. It’s important to remember that you need to build up a good finish and wax over the epoxy sections. Never put hot foods on the epoxy sections, and never cut into the epoxy. Thanks 🙏

Unless you have a lot of money it's hard to get instant gratification when you start off in wood working. You can easily build this with hand tools, it will just take a lot longer.

@waspliver7275
@waspliver7275 5 жыл бұрын
david ross I don’t do that stuff, but it’s all about size, complexity, and material. If you use a lot of epoxy, it would add to the overall price. If you use a small amount of epoxy, but a lot of wood and time, then that would add to complexity and price. If you spend maybe a day making something that’s medium size and takes a medium amount of epoxy, maybe range it around 40-60 dollars. If you make something large and use a lot of time and effort, then range it around 50-60. Make sure the price is enough to cover for the materials, then add what you think is good to the price for labor. I hope I help even a tiny bit, and I would love to see your projects.
