No malice, was not scared or anything. I think they were the spirits of my dead family members. That is why i belive in ghosts, now was it me as a kid with an overactive imagination? I cant say. I also have friends who have experienced some very strange things too which furthers my belife. I do collect military history and have things from ww2, ww1, the civil war and im currently putting together a 1600s samurai set of armor from parts, and have a sword from the 1300s and no ghosts lol. 90% of the ghost media is def bull, but there imho is plenty real stuff out there, people just tend not to bring up the real stuff unprompted imo.

I could write a novel around the moments in my life that took a paranormal devotee of 25 years and turned him into a skeptic. I've met psychics who tried to give me a 'reading' who clearly didn't look past what I was wearing, I've worked in places that were allegedly haunted because of 'boxes flying off of shelves' only to find out that the boxes were extremely thin and, more times than not, bent at the base. I think the story that sums it all up most though is the fact that I went to New Orleans twice expecting to hear or live a reputable ghost story, only to come back from a trip full of graveyard walks and haunted hotel tours with one believable story that came from a skeptic historical guide who grew up in New Orleans. He told us about how some haunted tours talk about the mysteriously moving cemetery urns of one historical burial ground. He claimed to know a groundskeeper at the cemetery who tracked the extremely heavy urns movements. He noticed that little by little, one by one, every night the urns would inch closer toward the cemetery walls, until one morning they'd found they'd seemingly leapt up on top of the walls themselves. The next day the urns vanished...and magically reappeared in a pawn shop down the street.

I grew up in a haunted house. I was 3-7 and my 2 sisters were 10-15. My family was convinced there was a ghost messing with their dreams, saying he would take us away and would make photos move and such. one night my sister got fed up with it and found the haunted picture in the attack, brought it outside, and as a family we set it on fire and she axed its while it burned. We didn't experience any other paranormal stuff after that night there. Now that im older and can more realistically look at the situation as a whole, I feel like we suffered from mass hysteria. one person believed it so strongly that another did, and another. me being a little kid not understanding anything would chime in that i saw stuff even though i didn't so i could be part of the conversation. did not help. and the picture burning was the boiling point that we all decided it was over and nothing happened. i do believe in paranormal stuff to an extent but i also believe that human mind is a powerful and dangerous thing and that most paranormal things can be debunk with an understanding of psychology or practical effects.

I get Garnts point on how many things there are we just dont know yet, but I think theres a simpler answer there: "We dont know yet." Prefereably followed up with "Lets find out." Because the moment you say "Must be ghosts/magic/gods/etc.", while most of those concepts remain equally vague and unexplained, youve essentially put up a roadblock to finding out the real cause. Even if something supernatural does exist, it doesnt work as an explanation for anything until we understand what exactly that thing itself is and how it functions. Walking in the door there was a wall of mirrors on one side and on the other side there was a split level area where the shops were. As we came in the door that night I glimpsed in the reflection of the mirror a man standing on the upper half of the shop area. I turned to see who it was and no one was there. If there was someone there, there was no where they could have disappeared to that quickly. As my roommate and I are going up the stairs and I remarked on it like, “oh, that was weird…” and she whipped around all wide eyed like, “You saw him too???” But anyway, that was an odd experience where we apparently saw the same phenomenon.

I really, REALLY do not belive in ghosts and I just can't really find any logical reason they could be real. I understand why people belive in ghosts, but I myself do not. There was a story I have where I was in my living room with my parents and from the kitchen we heard the sound of a spoon knocking against a plate. It was weird, it was an inconsistant tapping and the windows were closed so there was no draft so we assumed my brother was in the kitchen. Then my brother came down stairs, he shut the door and then it was confirmation it was not him. It was really weird, so I oppend the kitchen door and the sppon was lying on the floor, as if it had magically jumped off the plate. There was nothing I could come up with to explain in, it was so sureal and if I was a supernatural believer I would emidiatly come to the conclusion it is a ghost. The next day the exact same thing happened. So I ran to the door and opened it and a rat ran across the floor. Mystery solved. The thing was our house is clean and we don't live in a place where you would really see rats. There was no reason for us to assume that is what it was. But that one bit of evidence that was missing made go from a mystery to a perfectly understood issue. Also we realised my brother coming down stairs the first night scared the Rat away. I also remeber talking to someone in school and I said I don't belive in ghosts but they were like "Well I have seen one, how do you explain this?" and then tell me some stroy. Well... I don't know, I wasn't there. To be honest, I think Unicorns are more rational than ghosts, even Santa is too me. I obviously know those things are fictional but that is just how I see ghosts, I cannot get my head around beliveing in them even thought I understand the brain playing tricks and people beliving what they want to belive. I have no problem in theory with people believing in ghosts but I can't stand someone arguing why there is ghosts to me but somehow I am offensive when I argue back.

My mum kinda has a creepy ghost story (not sure if its a ghost tho). When she was in high school, there was a creepy old grandma who looked like a witch who was wearing the school uniform. My mum said she sat in class and was talking gibberish. The teachers dindnt do anything even though she was clearly not a student. My Mum was following he afterschool to see what was up with this grandma but then she felt an overwhelming need to poop. Apparently, this happened to alot of ppl after my mom finished high school. Other Ppl tried following the grandma and then they had to poop really badly. They made an article on it in the local newspaper. I wish she kept it.

While I still can't believe in the idea of souls and ghosts, I really want them to be real as that means that would be a huge realm of possibility outside of our concept of reality. It is just that so far, no proofs are enough for me to believe in them, I need more than just anecdotes. If one day there are some scientific explanation and proof for that, kind of like what science fiction always rely on (the higher dimension phenomena that reflects back to our 4 dimensional world), it would be very very exciting.

as someone who grew up on Åndenes makt ((the norwegian version) the only ghost finder show I've ever come across that isn't playing it up much and makes you go "yeah Nah. this is just sound effects and jumpscares" with a skeptic host and that actually looks up info on the place and the findings afterward, kinda like a BuzzFeed unsolved where they actually experience things), and in a haunted house. I have my fair share of experiences that has no "logical" explanation, that is to say, the only logical explanation is either; multiple people had the exact same psychotic episode at the same time, or it was a ghost. in my eyes it's way more likely it was a ghost. I believe in a reasonable way. when two (or more) completely sober people experience the exact same supernatural thing, I'd say it's more logical that it was something supernatural. logic is subjective ironically enough. I can't wait for the day we get some type of real ghostbusters, like actual people studying the supernatural through scientific means. maybe the whole argument, and both extremes ( the predatory spiritualists who tell you to buy their expensive crystals or satan himself will rise to nibble your toes AND the I only believe in what is currently recognized in scientific papers that I only actually read the headline of, science guys ), will die down and be gone for the rise of those of us genuinely interested to get answers to our strange experiences. I only believe cause I have things that can't be explained by scientific logic, but I love science, especially the complicated almost philosophical type. so if there actually was science to prove, disprove, or explain the supernatural, maybe I could finally stop being scared of the unknown. (cause I don't believe because it gives me comfort btw, I just can't get the what if's out of my head and would rather not be the guy in every horror movie who goes "there's no such thing as *insert creature here*" and then dies 5 minutes after. never taunt the universe, it WILL come back to bite you in the ass.)

The "there are things that science currently can not explain, therefor the supernatural" argument is actually a fallacy with a name, called the "Argument from ignorance", or "Argument from personal incredulity". Just because you can't explain something YET, doesn't somehow make "magic", "spirits" or "the supernatural" a plausible answer, that's something you actually have to demonstrate on its own. That's where the Bill O'reily meme comes from, "Tide comes in, tide goes out, you can't explain that, therefor GOD."

Exactly. But since people are mostly uneducated about logical fallacies they often get offended when you point them out. Just look at TheOneWhoSeenDeath who clearly doesn't understand what the "argument from ignorance" is, which is why he calls it a fallacy.

I believe to have any foundation for an argument of whether there is or isn’t a possibility for the existence of a ghost or ghosts, one would require a knowledge of what happens after our consciousness ceases upon death or better yet does consciousness ever actually cease. We would also need a definition that falls into far too many schools of philosophy for us to even understand how to word the questions that would give enough useful information to enable us to obtain the knowledge required to answer the initial question. But then we get stuck even further in the fields of semantics and ontological questions that we finally, assuming we even put that much effort into our questions upt o this point, realize it’s probably not worth dwelling on as it doesn’t seem to be answerable by testing(well aside from finding out firsthand, which I don’t feel is particularly worth knowing at the cost of our own life). Good lord I am incredibly too high for this, I’m gonna go watch unsolved c:

I've got a good ghost story. So we lived two doors down from a church that had a small cemetery on the hill above and to the left of the house. One night when I was taking the dog out I noticed a light from the hill where the cemetery was and mentioned it to my Mom in a kind of joking manner. Turns out that both my mother and my step father had been seeing this light up there for literal YEARS and just never talked about it. Various explanations were trotted out and the thing they went with was it must be a light from a house the next hill back. The trouble with that was that there were no houses or roads on that next hill, so it sure wasn't that. It didn't seem to happen every night but maybe a week later I saw it again and got out a pair of binoculars to see it closer since, while I didn't really believe that it was ghosts I sure wasn't going to go up there in the middle of the night. Looking at it, it was CLEARLY one of the tomb stones glowing with a sort of yellow green light. I was freaked out but mustered enough courage to go up there in the day time and found that the name on the stone was my stepdads family name (a common one) and I got even more freaked out. Fast forward a few days and I saw it again so got the binoculars out again and started moving around the yard to get a better look at it. Turns out that you could only see it from the house and the immediate area around the house and we put together that it was one of those motion senor lights from a hose about a half mile down the road that reflected off the shiny granite of the stone directly into our yard. It only happened when the husband came home late from work and only for the ten or so minutes that the light was on from when he drove the car up to their garage. Relief all around, but it was probably the thing that killed any residual belief I had in anything supernatural.

Connor is massively understating this. Something can definitely be determined to exist or not, or much more easily definitively prove if something has happened or can be observed or not. There needs to be a way to determine facts which is undeniable or verifiable, which would discredit someone’s beliefs, not because you feel driven to be condescending or to discredit the beliefs of anyone in particular but because this is the only sensible stance to take on anything.

I think that the main driving force behind a mass belief in ghost is a desire for the world to be more interesting than it really is. There are so many factors that can lead to something being seen as supernatural but is most definitely mundane. We want so desperately for there to be monsters and spirits and other things that make the world seem exotic and mysterious. I don’t hate anyone that believes in spiritual things like ghost but I personally don’t believe.

So it's my friend's turn to do that and it just EXPLODED and made a big splash and the shape was unrecognizable. Coincidently enough 2020 was indeed the worst year ever... Really agree with Connor on this one. Things as simple as rain or the sun was believed to have some sort of god behind it, because we didn't understand why that happened, which is why I believe that things like ghosts are just things we come up with just because we don't have an explanation. We don't like the unknown or the idea of it, so we come up with another way to explain it so it makes sense to us. We can never let something be unknown because that genuinely scares most people. But just so no one tries to cancel me, you can believe in what you want to believe. This is my own personal belief.

For me, it's not that I believe in ghosts. Like my mindset 99% of the time is similar to Connor with the scientific thinking (in general, goes for myths, paranormal, rumors, aliens, w/e) But when I'm in the mood, I do enjoy hearing "ghost stories". Most of the time (like if you go on a ghost tour) it's not actually 'ghosts' being talked about specifically, but moreso super creepy food-for-thought. Like for example, imagine it's night time, not many people around, not many lights, and finding out theres over 200 unmarked buried bodies underneath this one property. OR that the indigenous tribe that used to live here buried their dead on top of trees. Like they're true stories if you look them up - some of which we touched on briefly in school. But it's creepy af, and when you're in the mood or really into the story, your peripheral vision starts playing tricks on you. Sometimes it is more related to the "ghost" aspect of the story, and I enjoy those just as much. Like hearing the history of this one person, and then some related paranormal rumor to the area. Like people who see someone walking towards the river, but they don't respond; and when you get closer to the river they dissapear (then finding out there was a lot of suicides in this river bay area). Or a vacant, burned down apartment where people sometimes see the blinds/shutters open (and they should be barricaded-shut). But I'm NOT about the whole "duuude look at this picture, you can toaataly see the ghost man"

These kids once entered an old abandoned classroom with a teenager in a school uniform inside. Not all of them saw the teen crouching in the corner. But all of them heard the cabinet shake and saw the chair fly through the doorway. As they got scared they moved further back and more loud noises ensued closer to them. They cowered into the adjacent room and but soon mustered up the courage to make their way deeper once more. They got really close to seeing the uniformed boy slam the door but even I didn't expect a piece of metal to fall off the door and not flop onto the concrete floor but rather rattle from corner to corner like something out of a horror film. The kids ran outside while the high schooler could simply descend the stairs and take the back exit completely unseen. That's why I don't believe in ghosts I am one. And I do not feel bad for those obnoxious kids
