Wow,its absolutely beautiful..We are planning a trip from East to West, we drive a 2x4 Duster, would you please be so kind as to advise,if the vehicle is suitable for the terrain please..
@TravelGigolo2 жыл бұрын
It's really awesome! A duster has good clearance, so should be quite capable of doing the journey in my opinion. Some of the river crossings required clearance, but generally there was no mud of significance. There are also some steep dirt road ascents, but we did not at any point require low range or engage diff locks. HOWEVER, the provincial park is supposedly 4WD only. There are signs that indicate 4WD only, but I'm not sure if that is a present day requirement. I suggest check with the park officials first. Once you are out of the park, the rest of the route has no 4WD restrictions.

Great video, thank you. Yo say that only 4X4's are allowed in the park, but could you get away with a high clearance Fortuner with diff lock? I ask this because it seems high clearance seems to be more important than having low range capability?
@TravelGigolo2 жыл бұрын
We didn't need low range at all, and that's with a vehicle that has a much lower power to weight ratio than yours probably has. As you've said, clearance is the main thing for water crossings and uneven surfaces. Officially, the park says you must have a 4x4. I personally don't differentiate between 4x4, 4WD, and all wheel drive unless one really wants to be pedantic.

Good short video...thanks. One question, u mentioned no caravans. What about a 4 x 4 camping trailer? Is that OK?
@TravelGigolo3 жыл бұрын
There is a sign that indicates no caravans but no reference to trailers anywhere. I expect that the caravan ban is due to the steep gradients, narrow roads, water crossings, and sharp curves. We didn't see any off road trailers. Main concern would be passing other vehicles on narrow road sections where you sometimes have to pull off to allow a vehicle to pass. Might be best to check with the Eastern Cape Parks & Tourism Agency.

weird that your videos are not getting as many views as other SA traveltubers, your videos are better put together than theirs.

1. Do I get the permit to go into the Provincial Park at the gate or do I have to get it from SanParks beforehand? 2. Do I have to complete the section through the Provincial Park in a certain time. Meaning in one day and how much time do I need? 3. I would like to enter from the Patensie side. Would that make a difference to the experience? 4. How far is the entrance gate from Patensie? Thank you for the info.
@TravelGigolo2 жыл бұрын
1. We got the permit at the gate. Note that it's a provincial park run by Eastern Cape Parks & Tourism not SANParks. 2. You can stay in the park. Otherwise, you must get through during the period that's open. You can do it in a day and stay in one of the guest houses or campsites on the Willowmore side, but I would recommend you don't rush through in one day. If you want to camp in the park then book in advance. We stayed at Rooihoek which was fully booked at the time. 3. I personally don't think it matters which side you enter from. 4. About 30km from Patensie to the permit office. Almost all tar.
