6:30 "omakaseshimasu" literally means "I leave/entrust it to you" so you can say "omakase" in every Japanese restaurant and it basically means "you decide!" Perfect if you can't decide what to eat.

Lol, ASMR 🙂 I did exactly the same thing when I visited Japan, and was blown away at every turn. The respect for food and everything the Japanese show is mind boggling. Went to the fish market, purchased some knives, Nonbei Yokocho in Tokyo and on and on. Of 45 countries visited, Japan is number 1.

If you're in Japan, you should come to Hokkaido (northern Japan, also where I am!) We are famous for our meat unlike the rest of Japan, including our beef and especially lamb. "Genghis Khan" is our signature barbecue of lamb meat that is usually only found here.

There's quite a few places in Japan that are famous for different kinds of meat including horse and other a bit unusual stuff. But I agree that Hokkaidou is great. Sometimes doesn't feel as Japanese as the other main islands though. Not surprising given how recently it was integrated compared to the other regions.

A minor thing about the bento boxes. They are meant to be eaten at room temp or cold, so everything prepared in them have been considered. Crisp things (like tempura) will go soft and that's fine, all safe to eat still. Don't expect a microwave/heating service when buying bentos, and enjoy them as is.

Raw beef is very underrated. I’ve always eaten it, love it. Prefer it usually. Often slice and marinate with a good quality soy sauce and a good quality sesame seed oil. Delicious! Also it’s actually healthier as cooking beef removes an important nutrient, and reduced all nutrients some what.

Guga, I enjoy your channel very much, but as a train fanatic, I have to correct you on this one: the bullet train in JP is not maglev. It still relies on the well known technology of wheels on rails, but obviously much more advanced. The maglev is still in development phase and it will take a while to become operational as they will have to build a whole new infrastructure of tracks and stations.

On the subject of the quail - I think that most people forget where and how and what it is they are eating - keep the head on and people go weird and I wish we did more of that and wasted less but alas. For me though when you're in another country or whatever it may be why on earth wouldn't you want to try it their way, either way it would be fun and tasty or not but still fun!

Aw man, the quality of the food in Japan in general, it is insane! Would be great to go back there just because of the food! And usually Japanese people drink beer on the Shinkansen and some Bento box or other food is optional...the beer is the important part! :) And those twisted potatos on a stick are called "Tornado Potatos" here in Germany where I live. And concerning raw beef in Japan, 15 years ago, still even raw beef liver was allowed and I had some. Mmmm, never had so much raw beef in my life as in Japan :) Also I had raw chicken, which I did not like that much.

Yeah those bullet trains, though not yet MagLev are very smooth. Central Japan Rail that owns the bullet train from Tokyo to Kyoto and beyond has a yellow version of the bullet train, which every night is there to grind and polish the rail surface smooth. The train has a grinder/polisher on it so that while it is running, it will polish the rail for the next day. Of course it is not for passengers and only runs after the last train goes for the night and the line closes down. The current bullet train line is called the Tokaido Shinkansen and rides closer to the coast. The new MagLev train will be called the Chuo Shinkansen line and has a completely different track (since it has to house the AC magnets rather than rails) and will go closer to the mountains. It will be much faster than the current bullet train but will mostly be running inside tunnels so you may not get as nice a view but will get to Kyoto much faster. Edit: one error. The Chuo Shinkansen only plans to go to Osaka at the moment and not Kyoto. It will stop at Nara near Kyoto though. Enjoying your Japan videos. Thank you.

Um Guga, I think what you've ridden is not a MAGLEV train but a typical Shinkansen which use high voltage overhead electricity and large electric motors on all wheels... Like Tesla but very long and very fast. The Maglev one is still under testing and construction but once it's finished it would be twice as fast as the one you rode on.
