You need to understand in Cyprus we don't care about Greece we care about our families and quality of life Cyprus is more prosperous then Turkey & Greece why would we join either when we can be rich ourselves? You want recognition and two state soloution we want the island as one as agreed in 1960 independence settlement. Now we're never ever going to change that view it's up to you what you do join us legally and tell Turkey to leave or it stays as it is forever. Even in a thousand years the world will never recognise TRNC it was an illegal land grab and no amount of time can change that. The flag of the Republic of Cyprus was made by a Turkish Cypriot brother and we wave it proudly Turkey and Greece (who do not get involved) have absolutely no business in Cyprus it's a sovereign country yes both side's done wrong but we live in the present if we unite everything will be find but you don't want that you want to be part of Turkey bit I thought the whole point was you didn't want us to join Greece yet we're fully independent and Erdoğan decides what happens in Cyprus and he's decided he wants our oil and gas and you lot are gonna let him take it yeah great neighbours. Turkey intervened in 1974 to stop the systematic genocide of the Turkish Cypriots which had been going on since 50’s. Britain wouldn’t get involved cos they have military bases in Cyprus and that’s more important to them than the safety of the Turkish Cypriots, so Turkey had no choice but to intervene. The 1960 agreement handing Cyprus over to Cypriot rule, only lasted 3 years before the Turkish Cypriots were thrown out of the government and marginalised. Then the coup d’etat in 1974 was what actually caused the intervention, so if EOKA hadn’t tried to annexe Cyprus to Greece the island would still be united today.
@nickchristoforou7850 Жыл бұрын
If it was merely an 'intervention', it wouldn't have lasted 49 years. Also, there was no 'systematic genocide', and many of the 5,000 Greek Cypriots killed (1% of the population) were civilians. @@Mozgor

Gosh, what is going on with the harbour? Last time I was there it was lined with buzzing cafes and restaurants with seats right on the water! And it is usually packed with people strolling around day and night!

Looks like it's being renovated. A shame to be here when it's under construction, but I'm sure it will be better once it's completed.

What an amazing video Gabriel, you have already shown me places I didn't even know existed and I live here, beautiful. However the food was very expensive for the North, but the music more than made up for it. If your still here, message me, lots more to see.

You should’ve done you research before calling it the ‘country of Northern Cyprus’. It’s the illegally occupied part of Cyprus. I’ve been there, the Lon is beautiful but the place has been stuck in time. Backward, underdeveloped and corrupted by mainland Turkey

It's not disputed, it is illegally occupied territory, as per UN Resolution 541. It would be like visiting the "disputed country" of Luhansk, or Crimea, except it's worse, because northern Cyprus was ethnically cleansed of its MAJORITY Greek Cypriot population, their property seized and occupied for nearly 50 years.
@ozzygiritli Жыл бұрын
Funny how greeks always omit the actual ethnic cleansing attempt on turkish cypriots before 1974. Turkey didnt intervene for shits and giggles. If their intention was to take the island in its entirety, they easily had the power to

Nothing is disputed. There is the Republic of Cyprus member of EU and UN. According to multiple UN resolutions since 1974: 1. North part of the Island is illegally occupied by the Turkish army 2. Greek refugees go back to their homes in the North part 3. Constitutional order to be restored as soon as Turkish troops get out of Cyprus Fullstop. Period

Greeks were bombing Turkish villages, Turks were under blockade, clearly a genocide was to occur, than Turkiye as a guarantor state, had to intervene according to international law to protect Turkish Cypriots.
@Erol_8085 ай бұрын
and why did Turkey legally intervene in 74', it was as a result 0f 14 years of ethnic cleansing with the final intent to genocide when greece tried to annex an independent country.

Hi Gabriel, interesting travel location and there is a reason you went there it isn't that you really to go to Cyprus, although it's an interesting place but it puts you in the center of where you want to go next. So, you're not doing these long-distance flights, you're hopping to countries close by making the travel experience a bit easier for yourself. Then decide where you really want to go and spend some time in that country.
