Yes, I was impressed. It was an overwhelming experience. It was like I was talking to a bunch of retired rocket scientist that quit their jobs to build faster Harley-Davidson's! Even with all the knowledge and understanding that these guys had, they were patient in explaining why and what it is they were about to do, without being condescending. It has been a great experience with Zipper's Performance.

I was thinking the same thing. Poor guy has no idea cause he’s probably not mechanically inclined and has no idea exactly what he’s looking at and whether to believe these guys or not. For instance theres no safe way to straighten that rod while the engine is assembled. Also that cam drive gear is bolted right to the crank, it’s sandwiched behind a hardened and ground spacer and has 25ft lbs torque on that bolt. It’s not flopping back and forth like they showed when it’s all assembled and tight. Not buying the grey crystals coming from oil either. In a performance build, the last thing you want is to add more friction which is what your doing by replacing the oil control ring pack with the larger 3mm ring sets AND going to high tension from low tension rings. Standard in the industry as far as state of the art in ring technology is going to thinner rings (less surface area=equals less friction and less tension agains = less friction =more horsepower (free if you will). You spend a bunch of money for a 124, 128,131 build for more horsepower but then put hp robbing rings in it. Why because it consumes a little oil? If it’s not consuming large amounts and not smoking then I’d rather just pour a 1/2 quart in every so often and have those 3-5hp from the reduced friction. But zippers is good guys not bashing em. They gotta make money. I like their parts, but I just do things a little different since learning a lot building bikes for 30 years!

If you have a KZbin channel, having a Harley will provide you with a never-ending flow of content to share. Just film and upload your repairs, engine rebuilds, recalls, etc., It starts when you leave the dealership, and gets really good when your odometer hits 5K miles. From that point on, you're going to have to decide which repair videos you keep, and which ones you delete because you'll have more content than you can handle.

Are you including a drive belt upgrade? I'm not even sure they have a stronger drive belt but I've been seeing other videos where guys add power and then break drive belts. Anyway, very interesting vids. The only thing though is that there seems to be some real problems with Harley's new motor. Other vids have discussed the head gasket problems. Good luck with your build and be well. 👍😁

This appears to be planned management by the Harley corporation by having the buyer return to correct defects known by Harley. If Harley sold a bulletproof bike, there would not be any room for profit, would there?

I don't think it has anything to do with the piston ring. If the pistons rings weren't sealing, it wouldn't be able to hold pressure when they blew air in the spark plug hole. It's coming from the in the intake track. That makes sense as that's where HD vents their crankshaft and the oily mess that blows out with every pressure pulse from those coffee can pistons. Mine goes thru the oil too. I'm not really crazy about the vent kits I've seen, so I'll probably just throw some oil in every few thousand miles and use cleaning additives to the gas.

keep in mind folks this is a AIR cooled motor that is mass produced on a assembly line. the tolerances are gonna have a few thousands of wiggle room. The factory lower compression air cooled design. shouldn’t be compared to a purpose built spec’d out HiGH PERFORMANCE engine build. everything you see here is very common at any quality engine builders shop. no matter if it’s a single cylinder or a v12. it’s great to watch. but don’t trash on the manufacture for having different tolerances. high performance is expensive for a reason!! 👍.

Hey Traveling Tall researching the different engine builders on KZbin seeing your from Tennessee why did you not go to Moonshine Harley to get your engine done. They seem to give the customer different options versus others and warranty their work because now you voided Harley-Davidson Warranty
@TravelingTall
@TravelingTall 4 жыл бұрын
I heard they do great work. In order to keep my Harley-Davidson warranty it had to be a Screaming Eagle Performance kit, and as far as I know I haven't seen a 124 cylinder kit by Harley-Davidson for the M8. Zipper's is a performance parts manufacturer who sells there kits all over the world, they make and ship parts to Harley-Davidson dealerships and performance shops to install there products. When the opportunity arose to go directly to the factory, and have the engineer that designed the product install it on my motorcycle, I jumped at the chance. Sort of like having the late Carroll Shelby say, bring your Mustang by so I can put these performance parts on it. 😁 It was an opportunity of a life time, a true blessing. However I'm not to far from Nashville I plan to take a ride down there to see those guys when the weather breaks. Thanks for watching.

Wouldn't external breathers solve this oil in the intake port problem?
@AnthonyV82
@AnthonyV82 4 жыл бұрын
External breathers would help some, but isn’t the full solution. If oil is getting past the rings during normal running like they keep describing (fairly normal phenomenon with low tension rings as was mentioned) it will make its way into the intake port during the valve overlap period. A lot of high RPM closed throttle decel riding style (for example if you really like that engine and pipe noise after a WOT pull) it will also create high vacuum conditions during the intake stroke and pull oil past the rings more aggressively. So in short, it can be a multi-factor issue.
