Super cool, right!? It's like an outdoor art museum

Thank you for sharing your visit to Vilnius. It looked fun! I like seeing what other people did on their trips. I was in Vilnius last year during a June heatwave. Užupis is so cool, isn’t it? We met locals in shops and around town. Lithuanians were so fun and friendly. And food: roasted potatoes and šaltibarščiai (the pink soup) omg -.that’s a dish I had like 4-5 times there because it was so hot outside and it was not heavy but filling. I made it at home when I got back. All in all, Vilnius is one of the best cities I’ve ever been to.

Lithuania isn't 29 year old country. It had independence from 1918-1940 and then from 1990. But if you count from old ages, Lithuania was first mentioned in 1009 and was the biggest country in europe at one moment.

@plovyklatyra5 жыл бұрын
Paweł Skonecki Correct: it was occupied by polish troops from 1920 till 1939. For approximately 19 years it was Wilno
@pawelskonecki5 жыл бұрын
Oh yes polish troops ocupated Wilno where it was about 2 thousand Lithuanian, 69 thousands Poles and rest about 36 thousands Jews. It is joke ... Twice Lithuanian collaborated one's with Soviet Russia in 1918 and it was first their occupation of the city and next time in 1939 the same story. We cannot forget about ethnic morders in Ponary where Lithuanians killed about 100 thousands Jews and Poles. Wilno was liberated from Germans and Lithuanian collaborates in 1944 by Armia Krajowa - Poles undergrad army. Polish population in the city is about 30 procet now. All Lithuanian who lives in Wilno have a roots in kowno and they came there in Soviet time's.

Traveling with Kristin thanks Kristin, As A family with Northern European roots Norway Sweden and Germany and the old German state of Prussia, I would like to start somewhere around there. I think Konigsberg would be a great start even though it’s part of Russia and they screwed it all up after World War II when they took it away from the Germans, we have family cemeteries there I think unless the Russians bulldozed them which they were good at.Also Riga would be an interesting city for me,Maybe it’s called something else now. Another place I would like to see would be the Alchance area around the Rhine River. If you are interested in world war two history then you are right in the middle of everything. I think Stalingrad in Russia, now called Volgoradwould be a great spot to tour. Much more too. There are battlefields all over and if you start reading a little bit about autobiographies by soldiers and learn about these terrific battles you would have a whole new outlook Outlook. For instance Kursk KURSK was the biggest battle in world history between the GermansAnd Russians, I would love to go there so I leave it up to you

My Grandparents left Vilnius in 1910 to come to America. So did a lot of Lithuanians at that time. I was wondering if I go there, would I be able to trace my family history? Would all the records be lost?
@TravelingwithKristin3 жыл бұрын
Great question, Joseph. I am not sure what the answer is however. I think there should be some records. Have you checked ancestry.com? Maybe you can start there and work backwards

@@TravelingwithKristin That's a big dead end. They trace only to Ellis Island and want you to fill in the rest. Then they charge you for it. ( LOL ) All those sites are that way. I was wondering if there was anything over there I could research. Anyway, I love your videos.

Interesting how foreigners think they know the country when they've been in only one place 😂 if food was that cheap people won't go to the shops. I hate when they say everyone supposed to speak English when they have no knowledge in geography, maths or languages. Old city is not whole Lithuania. Some info is so not accurate. Maybe you should do more research before sharing. 🤨
