Update: I didn't mention what I paid for my ticket, it was 800 rubles, or about $8.50 USD. I bought it right at the ticket office before walking into the stadium. I was in a rush to get there after deciding to go to the game at 4.40pm. The game started at 7.30pm local time. I am still curious if i should call it "Ice Hockey" or just "Hockey" ? Let me know. It is called hockey in Canada. Where you are sitting would cost $300 to $600 Canadian at a Toronto Maple Leaf game. Prices vary and are raised for popular teams. Tickets are over $100 at the highest level. It costs a lot but players in the NHL are paid from $1 to well over $10 million U.S. I will be going to a game to see Ovechkin play in January. Ovechkin "the great 8" now has 866 goals and should pass Gretzky who had 894 maybe this year. Ovechkin had a hat trick last night which is amazing for a 39 year old plyer. Wow - a Russian will be the greatest scorer of all time.

Going to the games here made me feel like home. I call it Ice Hockey myself, as that is the official name of the sport. The governing body that overseas the rules is called IIHF, which stands for International ICE Hockey Federation. If it was just called hockey, then the governing body would be the IHF..

Americans as a whole know very little about Hockey and could care less about the NHL. They are all wrapped up with Football and Baseball.

@@WoozyPolarBear I have no doubt that many Americans are. After all their population is over 300M. I always found those that got CBC were more hockey fans. Of course the original 6 teams have a strong fan base.

Should have been European version of the NHL, but in fact it's not even close. Russians should have created their own product, that would reflect their cultural heritage and their mentality instead of creating a bad copy of something, that doesn't belong there.

It's OK to refer to the sport just as hockey. I'm am a Mexican hockey writer 😂and as weird as it sounds, it's a fact. KHL is a great league and some of the best players in the KHL end up playing in the NHL, so, it's a great video you made, Russ. I love hockey not only because I make a living writing about it but in general is a great sport and compared to football... hockey is way better.

Well, but Aleksander Barkov is considered as 'Finnish' LOL, even though the name that he has it's pretty obvious on his roots. I think Nikita Kucherov and Andrei Svechnikov are my two favorite NHL Russian players, but the guys in Columbus (Marchenko, Voronkov, Chinakhov, Provorov and Tarasov) are fun to watch.

These are the flags of the states and regions of Russia whose teams play in the KHL. These are China, Belarus, Russia, the republics of Bashkiria and Tatarstan. And there are many more countries in the world friendly to Russia than 4-5.

I usually hear Canadian hockey fans trashing KHL. Ovechkin was booed in Canada many times, especially in Toronto and Deadmonton. They call themselves hockey connoisseurs, but are simple bigots who hate players based on their nation of origin . And their Sportsnet channel is biased and disgusting

What is the local team called? What is the away team called? What does KHL stand for? What is Vityaz? Why do you say thanks instead of spasiba? Why is it dark when the game finished if you went to the stadium at 5 in the morning? How long does a game last?
