In this little trip report I present trenitalia's business class product on the Frecciarossa 1000. It is also known as the ETR 400 and is one of the fastest high speed trains worldwide. Business Class is the second highest travel class on this train, below Executive and above Premium.

As an American, I must say your videos are helpful and detailed to those who perhaps are first timers. My siblings live in Switzerland so am well familiar with train travel. Here in America, the lobbyists for oil, road, and airlines have a stranglehold on the Politicians so train travel won’t ever be close to Europe. And Amtrak is a funny little joke. 🙄. Yes, rail travel in the US will probably never be like in Europe for a lot of reasons, from the lack of political support to the preferences of the US travelers. Perhaps there will be the Hyperloop some day. Until then, the United States will most probably remain a plane and car country for the most part. There are some exceptions, such as the Brightline train or the Acela Express (soon to be the new Avelia) as well as the Pacific Surfliner, all of which I have covered on this channel - but I also don't see that there will be a high speed rail network in America. One of the best lounges WAS the first class lounge in Paddington , however over the last four years or so it has gone providing a comprehensive range of food to snacks as in your video , although it still has the shower facilities etc and the old part of the lounge is still a pleasant place to be seated .

Just a quick one. My favorite railway lounge is the Business Premier lounge at St Pancras, London. We had a chance to enjoy it last July prior to taking the Eurostar to Paris. The stairway alone was a sight.

My favourite lounge is LNER's at London King's Cross! It's quite similar to this lounge in terms of catering but there's a small meal onboard the train included in all first class ticket fares :) There's quite a nice view of the trains as well from the windows! (you can even open the one in the male toilets and stick your head out for a better look 🚄😂)

Hi, generally speaking the overhead spaces aren’t really made for larger pieces of luggage, but there are baggage racks for that in the train. Please also note the current baggage policy/baggage allowance. Enjoy your trip!

Hi, that‘s a very good question. I don‘t think I have seen any alcohol in Italian railway lounges (neither in the Frecciaclubs nor the Italo lounges). I guess they don‘t want to deal with drunk passengers :D and they prefer to keep things simple (too simple I shall say). Thanks for watching!

That‘s good to know ;). I mean with railway lounges, I think there aren‘t many that really offer a lot of value to the customer. The best I have seen so far is the Eurostar Business Premier Lounge at London St Pancras. Plenty of food there, plenty of booze 😀.

My favourite lounge so far is the LNER first class lounge at Edinburgh Waverly. Purely because the hot chocolate is amazing. Me and my partner drank it dry 😂

After talking to my daughter this evening I've decided I might take train from Milan to Venice instead of Rome. When is the best time to visit Venice and avoid other tourists?

Hi, I have seen the least amount of tourists in winter. The streets were quiet - the weather was not so nice though. But for me it was interesting to see Venice at that time of the year. Alternatively, there may be slightly less people around from March - May and September/October, the shoulder season so to speak. With that being said Venice is a major tourist destination with people coming from all parts of the world, which makes avoiding other tourists a rather difficult task. Enjoy your trip! Hi, you guessed it exactly right. The 267 km from Milan to Venice are not fully high speed. They have been expanding those sections though.

only the Milan-Brescia section is high speed (only 70km). The rest is normal line at 200km/h (apart from the small part from Padua to Venezia with can be operated at about 230km/h). Currently the high speed line from Brescia to Verona (100km) is in construction. It will open in 2023 and the speed will be 300km/h. The line from Verona to Vicenza is also in early stages of construction and the line from Vicenza to Padova i expected to start construction very soon (Covid-19 slowed everything down)

Hi, thanks for watching and your comment! Yes, I do think the Italian railway system is pretty good. In fact it is a role model for other European countries in terms of liberalization of the train market with private and state railway companies competing on neutral rails. With regards to delays - the grass is always greener on the other side. The reality is that (with few exceptions) most countries with a complex railway network have these problems and as a passenger you will encounter them sooner or later. That is what happens when you move close to a billion passengers each year, from small cities to big cities, with regional trains, international trains, high speed trains. From my personal experience, the Italian railway doesn't stand out in a negative way, in fact quite the opposite is true. But of course I can only speak for myself and my own travel experience from around the world. The German railway for example is certainly not more efficient than the Italian. Especially long-distance/high speed trains in Germany have a major issue with delays - more than 25% of those trains are delayed, even with the ridiculous definition of delays that Germany's railway enterprise DB applies. Plus there are practically no real competitors, despite EU regulations. So I'm not saying the Italian railway is perfect, but yes, it is pretty good and I like to use it. Keep in mind most countries on this planet can only dream of having the sophisticated high speed rail network that Italy has. A train can bring you from Milan to Salerno in less than six hours. For my experience, once a month I use the frecciarossa from Milano Rogoredo to Firenze S.M.N. and it has always some problems, delays. I have tried trains in Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Swiss, Denmark... and maybe I've been lucky, but I never had delay! But of course, I can't compare it... Anyway, thanks a lot I really like your video.

Well, with Germany you were lucky, because delays are kind of normal on long distance trains for a lot of reasons - a lot of construction works and unlike Italy and France they don't have a dedicated high speed rail network (except some routes), so the high speed trains share tracks with other trains, which brings many delays, if things don't work perfectly. Switzerland, Belgium and the Netherlands are a very different story, because they have a much smaller system length than Italy and Germany and only very few or no high speed lines. This means the system is shorter, less complex and easier to maintain, which makes delays less probable. I have traveled Milan-Rome many times and most of the time it was okay, but sometimes I had some issues, too. I think if you travel often, you will run into delays at some point. I heard good things about Japan, but haven't tried it so far :). Everything above five minutes apparently earns you a delay certificate :D.
