If you’re using the in room safe, on your last night get the pair of shoes you plan to wear when checking out and traveling. Leave one shoe in the safe, and one on the floor. This prompts you to really check the safe is empty before checking out.

I use yellow or red post-it paper and stick it where I can see it clearly, like on a bedside table. I write Remember… remember…. remember!! That’s my clue to remember to take the stuff out of the safe.

Put your passport in the shoe. Years ago there were several of us in a cabin. I wasn't feeling well so someone else checked the safe. They didn't retrieve my passport and I didn't realize it until we were in the theater waiting to disembark. It was a real hassle getting back in the cabin to get passport. Unnecessary stress. Passport was retrieved and we didn't miss our disembarkation.

I just heard that a scam that some criminals are using is they put what looks like a genuine restaurant delivery menu in the hotel rooms.. They take your order and credit card number and never intend to deliver. Always check the internet if it's the same number as menu. I hope that makes sense. ☺️

@@SnowySpiritRuby My flights went well! Only 1 cancellation, so I can't complain. I will say that watching videos about flying & actually doing it are 2 totally different things! Haha. It was definitely a learning experience. That said, I can't wait until my next trip! 😉
@SnowySpiritRuby
@SnowySpiritRuby 2 жыл бұрын
@@jkn8705 Glad to hear it! I've had numerous delays over the years, but thankfully only one cancellation. However, since it has happened once before, I always prepare just in case it happens again, because that particular cancellation left me stuck in Denver overnight with only my backpack, so I always make sure to pack a change of clothes and any essential toiletries in my carryon if I'm checking a bag (I keep a full set of toiletries at my parents' house for when I visit, so that I don't have to take a bunch of them back and forth every time - if it weren't for the possibility of cancellation, I wouldn't pack them at all), because my suitcase went out on the next flight but I didn't, so having packed them in my backpack saved my butt (learned that tip 2 years earlier when preparing from my first international trip). Currently only one flight flies into my home airport each day (single gate airport in WY), and it departs at 9 p.m., so I'm making sure that before I fly home in a week and a half (I'm on a trip right now), I have the phone numbers of all my relatives who live in Denver, on the off chance that my flight gets cancelled (again, it has happened before, so it can happen again), since if it were to be, I would be stuck in Denver for 24 hours with absolutely nothing to do (the last time I was stuck in Denver overnight, I got there late afternoon and was able to get on a flight the next morning, so enough time for dinner, shuttle rides (airline gave me a hotel voucher), sleeping, security, and breakfast, and that was about it).

Check the air conditioning before unpacking. Also check the safe and the TV remote (if you are planning on watching TV). My tip is to look up numbers and locations of nearby pharmacies that deliver and 24 hour urgent care centers near the location of your resort before you arrive. Recently my husband had an allergic reaction while we were on vacation. When you are panicked it helps to save a step by knowing this information ahead of time. Precious moments can be lost waiting on the concierge. Also, make sure to pack a list of prescription medicines and insurance info. in your bag. We have used many of your tips in our travels. After hearing how hotels don't always clean the bedspreads and blankets between guests, I NEVER lie on top of them. If I'm staying in one place for awhile, I unpack my packing cubes and don't refill them with my used/dirty clothe; I lay them flat in my carry-on suitcase. I only keep my clean ones in them and use a hotel plastic laundry bag to separate the clean clothes from the dirty ones.

I used to work at a hotel both in housekeeping and laundry. not every stain could be removed from towels even having great system and stain remover. we would have to cut them up and housekeeping would use as rags. I suggest trying to be respectful of this when cleaning up messes or make up with them. also anything left behind would be held for 30 days then if a guest didn't reclaim it would go up for grabs in the housekeeping staff. if a room isn't cleaned spotless or to a guests expectations during stay, we were not allowed to even move a suitcase or any items left out on desks ect. if I stay at a hotel ever I try to remember those things and tidy up so things can be easier for the housekeeping.

Wherever we stay either in a hotel or in an air BNB, we always keep the room tidy during and even after we stay. We gather all the trash in 1 big plastic bag and put all the used towels in one place in the bath room and we even made the bed. As much as possible we leave the room clean and tidy and we always take pictures of every corner /spot & appliances in the room just to have proof that nothing has been broken.

Hacks: if you need a bathing suit to dry quickly, lay flat on a towel and roll up. Then twist as much as you can. Bathing suit will be damp and dry quickly. Pack old PJs and socks and toss instead of take home. Use the usb on the hotel tv to charge your phone Buy laundry bar at the grocery store for $.99 to do laundry in the sink. Bring 2 clothes pins. Use them to hang laundry or use them to mark which towel is yours. Pack baggies or containers to pack daily snacks at breakfast. Pack powdered flavored coffee creamer and instant coffee if you drink coffee.

Travel Tips: *If international, pack a cable w/ a combination lock to secure your suitcases/bags/purse, etc. when riding on a train, subway/metro or bus to prevent theft. *Place your foot through a bag strap (for your bags on the floor) when at a hotel counter to prevent theft. (A female had her soft luggage bag stolen from the floor soon after she arrived at a 5-star hotel counter in Paris by a man who used his foot through her bag strap & stealthily dragged it away). *Pack a drain stopper because some hotels/motels don’t have one for the bathtub. *Wear a Sky ID holder when taking a flight. Include ID, passport, boarding pass, small notepad/pen, ear plugs, sticks of gum, Gas-X (for nervous tummy); Tylenol Extra-Strength & Benedryl (for night flight). *Pack a headlamp flashlight, lantern flashlight & tiny flashlights. *For a hotel room, avoid booking a room near the ice machine, elevator or stairwell (>noise). *Pack a battery-operated travel clock w/ batteries. *Use Post-it Notes on the inside of your hotel door to remind you what not to forget to pack back up when you leave. *Pack moleskin (in case of blisters); Ace wraps (sprains); Sunblock, Magnesium 200-250 mg (sore muscles), Tinactin (to prevent foot fungus). Wear flip flops when using the shower. Pack non-slip material. *If swimming in a pool, bring a bathing cap & use a permanent marker to write down combination lock numbers on the inside of it. *Pack 3 money belts: 1 to wear; 1 to wash; & 1 that’s drying. Store luggage locks in them & cc’s of important documents & cc’s of passport, flight info; important phone #’s & email addresses & cc’s of bank card info. *Wear an elastic abdominal back support when carting luggage.

Hi Laurie, I’m a retired FA for the best airline in hawaii, so I’ll travel non rev, but I also buy tickets I like supporting my airline. Way before pandemic I always wiped down airplane seat, trays, seat belts etc etc etc, and when I get to hotel I wipe down everything Starting with all the door handles, switches, toilet seat sinks etc etc etc, you get the drift. I love your videos and always thumbs up, but the reason I’m commenting for the first time is, I do not walk barefoot ever in a hotel so when I get into that bed I have my slippers, flip flops whatever you call them right by the bed. It is a habit and given that I will step right into the footwear. So I wouldn’t have footwear right at corner by door, but I do what you do I put a towel on the sink area and put my toiletries. I used to bring my Vera Bradley valet to put in jewelry, like the one you show in video, but I stopped bringing it because if for some reason it falls your valuable will be hard to locate on the floor. So I just put my jewelry right back into my case, in my Vera Bradley carry on easy to get in and out. If we are going to be out I put it into my luggage lock it and strap it, it’s not a problem or extreme effort to do this. I also do what you do I put the no disturb sign on the door that way no one will come in. I think I might just bring my ring stick up camera, it’s just call stick up, doesn’t need base just connect to hotel WiFi and I can check my phone to see if anyone comes in and out with the sign on the door. Most times I stay in hyatts and they are a really good hotel chain. I buy wipes in bulk always in my carryon, and I have gloves the disposable kind for cooking very inexpensive from Costco or sams. And when I use the restroom I just put on gloves then dispose, I don’t need to wash hands, because my hands we’re getting so dry and cracked from all the antibacterial. So I just put on disposable gloves to bathroom and no need to wash. I use hand towel in the bathroom to slide opens the door theni dispose of the towels and gloves. So that’s a tip. Love your videos Still

Taking a picture of your room number when you are staying in several different hotels on a trip is a good idea. We have gone on tours where we spent 2 nights in hotel A, one in B, 2 in C and by the time we got to the 4th hotel one of us would be looking for the wrong room number. A photo of where you parked is a good idea too. I forgot to to do it once and my friend and I spent 15 minutes trying to find the car. I always pack ear plugs. I've traveled with friends who snore and the only way to get any sleep is put ear plugs in. I found out that even if my roommate doesn't snore earplugs can block out noisy fans, and the elephants in the room above who seem to be dancing all night.

I leave my tees/tops and my underwear in their cubes. My last trip, I took along some folding travel hangers (Amazon) and they were great for two women sharing a room in London (where there are never enough)! I left them behind, as the room maid thought they were great! Inexpensive enough to buy more when I travel next.

We always eat at local places and usually ask the front desk. I can eat at Dennys at home, I don't want to eat there while traveling. I've also at times struck up conversations with people and ask them where to shop and eat. like the time we ended up in Meijer. $400 later plus a suitcase to schlep it all home. 🤦‍♀️

In addition to wiping down all touch surfaces in the hotel room with disinfectant wipes, we always put the TV remote control in an inexpensive (and disposable) plastic bag. The longer "bread bags" that you can get at Walmart, etc, fit longer remotes easily. Seal with a twist tie on the bottom...that will not interfere with the optical sensor at the top.

I use packing cubes and unpack the shirts I expect to need. I also pack clothes for one extra day beyond the planned trip. My cube with socks and underwear just gets unzipped and put in the top dresser drawer. I also have a 5 foot travel extension cord with 3 usb ports. I use a CPAP and often the nearest outlet is too far for the CPAP cord to reach. A non-hotel tip that just helped me: AT DFW airport, the shuttle from the parking to the terminal gives me a card with my spot number. I always take a photo of the spot number on the ground in case I misplace the card. This time around, they wrote spot 208 instead of 308, so there was an empty space there. I pulled up my photo and showed the driver where my car really was.

The Eagle Creek silicone travel bottles (at least the ones I got 5-ish years ago) stand up to pressure changes just as well as the GoToob ones (I have both Eagle Creek and GoToob): I've flown with them 9 times - both carryon and checked - and never had an issue. My biggest thing is that any liquids not in a silicone bottle have to be in a brand new ziploc (brand new so that they have no holes), because the Eagle Creek and GoToob have never leaked on me because those bottles seal all the way and they stretch if the pressure decreases enough, but typical little plastic bottles don't stretch with decreased pressure, causing them to spurt upon opening, or (if the pressure decrease is significant enough) actually leak while still closed. We stayed at several hotels on our fall road trip, and I can't even remember how many times I used the pants hanger on the curtains. It's actually the parking lot lights outside that are the issue for me. I can't use kleenex, so I use bandannas instead, and always travel with a handful of them, so I just use those (clean ones!!) to block lights, and they're actually thick and heavy enough to do it - in my personal experience, electrical tape, painter's tape, and most other tape isn't thick enough to block the light without putting on many layers. We've never put our clothes in the hotel drawers - ever - because they're always guaranteed to be forgotten if we do, no matter what. We don't hang anything except fancy dress clothes that have to be hung (if any) in the closet, either, for the same reason. I keep my clothes in their packing cubes in my suitcase, so each day I just take the cubes out of my suitcase and take whatever clothes I need out of the cubes, then pack them back into my suitcase. No mess, and nothing forgotten. We thankfully haven't yet come across a hotel where you have to put the card in for the electricity etc. to work. I wonder if that's maybe a regional thing...? Or maybe only certain chains...? I always bring a small bottle of essential oil, usually peppermint and/or some blend, that works for both freshening up things (I'm highly allergic to all artificial fragrances, so dryer sheets are out), and I've had to use it to repel bugs on occasion - a few drops on my pillow and the bugs are gone. The ones I bring don't take up any more space than a travel tube of toothpaste, so they fit easily into my liquids bag. Also, if we book our room at least a few days in advance, we request that they only use vinegar to clean the room instead of chemicals and scented cleaners - the room actually smells fresher from just the vinegar (the actual vinegar smell doesn't linger, in case you're wondering) than when they use the regular stuff, and I don't have to worry about my allergies going off the rails to the point of making me miserable. I don't have to worry about forgetting my pillowcase because I always have to bring my own pillow (I have to use a very specific pillow, so I have one at home and keep another of the exact same one at my parents' house, so I never have to fly with it), so the whole thing (pillow and pillowcase) comes with me every time. I also chuck all the hotel pillows from my bed either onto the other bed (if there is one) or onto the floor - no point letting them take up space on my bed when I'm not going to use them anyway. Make sure you do one last check after everything is out of the room, especially under the beds - use a flashlight! - just to make sure you didn't forget anything. There has been a time or two where we ended up catching something we had forgotten when we first packed up. On our fall trip, we tried to always book an accessible room, and before I got out of the car (I was usually exhausted by that point in the evening) or we brought anything into the hotel, my parents would go in and check to make sure that the room we got was in fact accessible - at least one of them wasn't even though it was listed as such, and they got the room changed before bringing anything in.

I don't know why I had never thought of using the ironing board as a table before. I recently made a weekend trip to the USA to pick up a LOT of deliveries, from Amazon and other places (you would be amazed at all the things we cannot get delivered in Canada, or that cost us 2 or 3 times as much.) Through most of the stay. the tiny desk in the room was covered with all the packages prior to getting rid of packaging and organizing to take home (that's when my new set of packing cubes came in handy!!), so I sat on the one chair in the room and used to ironing board as a computer desk/dining table. Oh, that chair brings me to another hotel room tip. Don't be afraid to ask for a big pile of extra towels if the room's only easy chair is so filthy and gunked up, you don't think you can sit on it without ruining your clothes!! Or catching something unspeakable. I had no compunction in marching up to the front desk and asking (very politely) for 6 extra bath towels. When they asked me why, I explained that the chair was so dirty, it wasn't safe to sit on. I said it politely, but I was willing to stand my ground if they said I couldn't have that many towels - it is the hotel's job to offer a clean and safe room, after all.

I always take disinfectant wipes with me when I travel. As soon as I get in the room I wipe down majority of surfaces, remotes, light switches, sink handles, potty seat and handle. I also check the the sheets to make sure they're clean and not just pulled tight. If we're traveling for longer than 4 days, I do unpack our cubes into the drawers and closet to keep us organized and ready to have fun. If it's just for a couple of nights, I pull out the clothes for the next day as we go. Once I get one packing cube emptied or we wear enough to have space, I consolidate clean clothes and pack the dirty ones (rolled for space) in the spare cube and into our suitcases. It keeps us organized and helps us remember everything when we leave. When we fly domestically, I often book at one particular chain (if available) near the city center or near attractions rather than near the airport. The rooms tend to be cheaper, and we often are within walking distance of activities, restaurants, and the like, which allows us to enjoy more of the city. We always evaluate our transport options beforehand to determine if a rental or rideshare are more efficient. We, too, ask the hotel staff for restaurant and attraction options. But, we also find a local grocery store or market at which to get a few staples to help in our hotel room, especially if we have a fridge. We buy packs of bottled water (the only time we buy them), a couple yogurts, a little fruit, nuts, popcorn bags, and/or veggie tray. This helps stave off unhealthy munchies, and having water encourages us to stay hydrated. We always try to book at a hotel that offers breakfast. But if it isn't an option, having a few items in the room can help. I often will pack packets of oatmeal, instant coffee, tea, and drink mix-ins too. Nowadays, most hotels offer a Keurig style coffee option rather than an actual pot. I can often reuse a coffee cup or a paper cup in the morning to make coffee or tea, and in a crunch I can make oatmeal in a paper cup. If we have trouble getting bottled water, or my son requires a bit of motivation for water, 1/3-1/2 of a drink packet mix in is all it takes to get water in us. I know buying bottled water is wasteful, but it is a habit picked up in traveling internationally.

I am a very light sleeper and have trouble sleeping in hotels. One way to cut down on both light and noise is to roll up a bath towel lengthways and lay it along the bottom crack of your door (and also the connecting door to the next room, if you are not sharing the two rooms with someone in your party.) That helped a lot to cut down on the pot smoke from the adjoining room in my NON-SMOKING hotel last week!) About the first thing I do when I check in is ask for some extra large towels, for use in the doorway, to place over the ironing bord so I can use it as a table, to put on the couch or chair in the room (those never get cleaned, and it really shows in some of them!), and to roll clothes in after I have hand washed them at the sink, so they will dry overnight.

I place the ironing board in front of the window, as a desk, to put on my makeup. The lighting in bathrooms is rarely right for makeup application.

These are all amazing tips. One thing I bring with me to hotels are my favorite 3 in 1 coffee pouches. This way if I can boil water I can have my coffee in the morning.

I like to bring coffee in like tea bags or freeze dried coffee I keep in a pouch. You can also use them when you fly as well. Just ask for hot water and you can drink heat you like.

@@markpuffer9615 I am a bit afraid to drink anything hot on a plane as I have often read that they use the water from the tanks instead of bottled water for coffee and tea.

@@TravelTipsbyLaurie I love coffee, too, but I have read many times that water from the plane's tanks is used for coffee and tea and may contain a lot of bacteria. Is this true? I have a portable immersion heater I bought on Amazon and have used it to boil water. It has dual voltage, but I have only used it in a hotel. Can they be used on a plane?

I recently started using laundry detergent sheets to wash my clothes. I plan to take a couple of these on my next trip. Also I like Dr Bronners soap for laundry, hand soap, body wash.

@@TravelTipsbyLaurie swimsuits in one cube, One or two cubes are top/bottoms rolled together for ready made outfits I know I want to wear, other cubes are all shorts, all tank tops, all tee shirts,all undies, etc. but usually a few items I do take out to hang. With all rolled and placed *side by side*not stacked, I can easily and quickly see what piece I want to wear for that day...or time of day lol! I open all cubes, place into drawers of rented condo, etc.Then when time to leave I zip all of them up, put back into luggage and done. I like how organized it keeps items. Thank you!!

We always buy extra hangers. They are inexpensive at the Dollar Store. We also take a folding pop up hamper with handles. Easy to tote dirty clothes to the hotel laundry room!

Thanks for the video and hints. I leave my clothes in the packing bag except what for needs to be hung up. My wife and I have different color packing bags. If we are staying in a hotel for one night prior to a cruise, we will use one packing bag of a different color in the carry on. This contains items needed for that one night. saves us from having to go through every bag.
