“The only man who ever broke my heart” hits me so differently. I just lost my Dad 9/26/23. He was the greatest man I’ve ever known and my HERO. He broke my heart the day he was taken from us, but he filled my heart more than I ever deserved, for as long as I was lucky enough to have him in my life. I miss and love you, Dad. Trying my best to make you proud, every day.

Caught this video as a result of Michael Palmisano......and it spurred a marathon of watching Travis's body of work.....i am blown away at his talent, rawness, pitch, timbre, control and perhaps some of the best phrasing i have ever heard. I heard about his recent health issues and I join others in support and prayer for this amazing soul who touches lives with his gift. Godspeed Travis!

If I could buy myself a conscience that wasn't broken Mend every fence I drove my hard head through Re-lock all the doors I wish I never opened Unlearn the things I wish I never knew And it came out through the bottle It came out through my fists It came out way too early I wish it never did Push it down, it comes out sideways Push it down, it comes out sideways Bitter roads turn into highways Push it down it comes out sideways I have days where it's just nose above water Keep it together while I fall apart I have moments when I act just like my father The only man that ever broke my heart And it comes out in my silence Sometimes unwanted tears Comes out disguised as anger but it's really fear Push it down, it comes out sideways Push it down, it comes out sideways Bitter roads turn into highways Push it down, it comes out sideways

@@Travismeadowsmusic I had a kind of a crummy home life growing up with two alcoholics that tried their best to raise me and my seven siblings. I was also the middle kid so I spent a lot of time trying to be the peacemaker which caused a lot of pent up bitterness and anger that I would express at the wrong time around the wrong people just about every time. I'm also a so-so guitar player and a singer and i've written a few songs. That was a good way to channel some of that anger in a better direction. I said all that just to say this, that I can really identify with the lyrics. I had all those kind of feelings with my brothers and my sister but mostly with my dad. He passed away in 1995 and I miss him a lot but I regret never getting to really know him until the last couple years of his life. Now that I reflect on it I think most of my life has been kind of sideways. Thanks for sharing that with me and the rest of the world. God bless you brother.

Got an 11.5 year stay at the Ole Grey bar hotel and am finally free from so many chains that bound me for far, far too long. Chains of Fear. So much fear it's hard for me to even write to comment. This song takes my breath away and makes me cry and really fu$^*ng happy at the same time. My father died 25 years ago and I’ve got to say - this song just put me on the floor from the first listen - it’s really got to me like nothing has before. Even days later, it’s still hard to get through. Lyrics that come from truth, honesty and life speak to you like nothing else does - and you can feel that in the song.

@@Travismeadowsmusic Hey Travis. Hope you see this . I just wanted to say thanks for giving me the gift of your talent, incredible songwriting skills, and most of all the honesty you dig so deep to share with me. I am a huge John Prine and Kris Kristofferson fan. One is gone , the other doesn’t perform anymore and there was really no one to replace them for the kind of songs I needed to hear to keep sane. I’m a songwriter and written over a thousand songs because I need to write. Had 30 or so published in the 80’s , a couple recorded but didn’t make their way onto an album . That’s OK with me at this point in my life. I write because it’s always been my only way to express my feelings. You are the most powerful songwriter I’ve heard in a very long time. Your elite songwriting craftsmanship hanging now top of raw honesty is incredible. Your understanding of hope injected into hopelessness is pure gold. Your stripped down performances not only display your talent as an artist, but your understanding that that is how the most honest and best crafted songs are best done that way. Sorry about that long post. Thank you for sharing your heart and soul with writing ( and I KNOW rewriting) talent with me. You fill a big place for me and I can’t begin to explain what it means to me. Richard Hughes

This is one of those, every now and then kinda songs that I hear and realize this’ll be a constant companion and a auditory balm to soothe the pain that living brings. I’ll be the first to admit, I facilitated every ounce of heartache in my lifetime. Fueled by unbridled passion and the insatiable appetite for things I never needed. In between every line and verse of this soulful lament, I hear my own story. That’s the beauty of the black and blue brokenness that encompasses such tales as such, as they manifest into three minute masterpieces that hit my heart like a freight train. Life is sweet, bittersweet.

Love it, my Pops and I never met eye to eye...I Love him to death, although, I remember one day he literally turned his back on my little brother, well, needless to say, I put my arm around my little brother and we left his home. he was bawling, and i was choking on my tears, but had to be the level headed SOB. He was a great Father and husband to his new family, we were just collateral damage, I suppose. Looking back, I cain't blame him for doing what he had to do for his new family, my brother and I had a stronger bond after that. Our father passed and we were there, he was a Vietnam Veteran, Bronze Star recipient amongst other accolades, and was a man of few words, a Strong presence, and his eyes spoke more than any words can say. We knew he loved us, but never said those words to us, but we knew he did. I remind myself to always tell my loved ones, family and friends that I Love Them, every Fucking Chance I get, and say it genuinely...I digressed, This song hits home...Love IT!!!!

some songs have the ability to have their audience anticipate the next lyric. It's intuitive and engaging. They evoke such a natural sense of understanding and are easy to relate to. Some songs are objectively, not subjectively good. This is one of those songs. They speak to human condition and are songs that anyone, anywhere can understand and appreciate. I don't typically leave comments on videos, but I hope you read this Travis. I too, am a musician, the music I write aims for these ^ very traits. This man has had a difficult journey and I sense it, feel it, know it in my bones-- so he has lived what his words reveal and what fabulous words they are. This song should be an anthem in every rehab center in the world and Travis Meadows you are one very big emotional talent.

Thank you, Travis. I've spent the last several days going down a Travis Meadows "ear-wormhole," and I can honestly say I've never felt more of an instant connection to a songwriter in my 36 years. Please keep writing music and never stop. People NEED songs like this to remind them they are not alone.

61 next week. Decades filled with anger, anxiety, hopelessness. I'd seen more empty bottles than hours of peace till I got sober in 2014. Alcohol was never the culprit, just fuel for the holocaust. Trying to figure out how to smile and mean it.

Mr Meadows, thank you for this song. I had a rough childhood, joined the military and saw the ugly side of the world. I sank to a dark place, cost me my marriage. When I heard this song I felt like you wrote it just for me. I’m a self taught campfire guitar player, even still have my guitar I used in Afghanistan, when I heard this song I learned it right away. Every time I play it I feel better.once again, thank you.

This song just hit me like a brick wall. I want to share with someone, that this made me just start crying. Someone who i highly look up to started helping me discuss my PTSD and this song just fully opened a floodgate that was being held shut by a rusty chain. God is so good. And i thank Him for giving people like this some tiny connection to my life so a moment like that can happen. People are all connected and when someone sings your pain and deepest emotions...its something very hard to describe. And something i can only really describe by saying its all just God. Thank you Travis Meadows and God bless you and keep you as you gain your voice back.

Push it down it comes out sideways. Words cannot express how thankful I am for your music. I am in the worst season of life I have ever been in. Your music and the words to the stories has a healing and cleansing effect in my soul. I prided myself on always doing what's right. I always done what I was told to do for 54 years now. I forgave with sincere forgiveness. Thank you so much Travis.
